There's another perception everyone seems to be missing. Despite Ballmer's character (or lack thereof), he was speaking to his own. He was giving a pep talk. He was not addressing the Linux or the/. community. Further, for him to give Linux such a wide berth is actually quite a compliment, as his company controls a walloping 93% of the desktop market, and Linux controls only 2%, and Linux is not at all gaining on the desktop side either. But it's perception. If you firmly believe you are the biggest and the best, then you will be - you'll be bigger than even old Planet of the Apes Ballmer.
Ballmer blurts: 'The big issue there, was a reluctance to accept legal liability for open-source software.'
Yeah right. So let's see: Mark Joseph Edwards and others firmly laid the blame for ILOVEYOU at Bill Gates's feet, and they made the bill out for $5 billion.
Now let's add on AnnaK, Nimda, and Sircam - how much are we up to now?
And Slick Willie apologises to the world for the misery his crappy software has caused -
But like Ballmer is really going to pay out that money to someone? Like Microsoft - those inept morons - are ever going to accept responsibility?
It's exactly the other way around: When the open source community finds a vulnerability, they fix it - and fast, and right there and then.
While half a year later MS are still denying the vulnerability exists and/or trying to play it down.
Ballmer is so full of it. Look at his figure, it's obvious.
I've never heard people being afraid of 'nuclear'. In fact, I don't even know what 'nuclear' is.
I've heard of 'nucular', but I don't know if that's related or not.
Ok bro, you got a deal, but I got a lot of money tied up in Nigeria right now - can you wait until my 419 cheque clears? Great!
Oh - there was something else you wanted me to bring up - do you remember what it was, Neville?
>now linked to Berkshire Hathaway, which it probably owns
Uh - unless something has happened recently that I am not aware of, it's the other way around bro - to the extent that anyone owns anyone that is. In most investors' minds L3 does not own Warren Buffett, my friend.
'Hey Mr Spammer, I caught you, so now you gotta pay. I say so, the court says so, and we can always take it to Judge Judy. So pay.'
'Uh gee man, I don't got no money man.'
In a word, I think the suggestion is naive 'talking head' stuff.
If spammers are so good today at hiding their identities, why won't they be good at hiding their money?
Apple's Motorola PowerPCs still get more users than Linux Intels and AMDs - over twice as many. Where's the panic? IBM has a brutal 64-bit PPC and that has nothing in common with Intel or AMD - where's the panic? You don't really think Slick Willie is going to succeed with any of that, do you? Slow day at work?

There may be a 5% difference between human beings and chimps, but between human beings and Steve Ballmer it's got to be an additional 10%.
But we should wait for the results of further studies so we can be objective about it all.
One thing seems for sure - Carly's own stock is going to fall even more.

I immediately felt drawn to this story.
