And, of course, the oil companies used the skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices. A cute little ancillary benefit for them, but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, of course, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and fuckin' play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So now my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the fuckin' job interviews, which sucks 'cause the shrapnel in his ass is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin', 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat, the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what did I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. I figure fuck it, while I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? This is very dangerous logic, IMHO and can be used to ban virtually anything that is used in commitment of a crime, starting with guns of course, then alcohol (can be used to facilitate rape).
The same thing can be applied to representative branch, Some great system you have there,a R or D president and and R or D congress/senate. Why do you have a two party system, where are the Greens, Social Democrats, Socialists, Communists?. What, not even 3% of US population support the Greens to have their views represented in federal parliament? You system and so flawed and undemocratic that it denies representation to millions of your fellow citizens. Your President is elected by the media on the basis who performs more "knock out punches" in scripted TV debates.

I agree with you somewhat, I myswlf was trained as a scientist, but when upon graduation in the 90s I was offered a salary that would not buy me a pair of winter boots I went into IT instead. Now a scientist with some experience (aka Russian equivalent of a Masters) now makes as much as an IT professional. New grads are not immediately fleeing abroad or going into private business. I see this first hand as I live in one of the Russian research centers near Novosibirsk. The international college rating is mostly PR I think.
The Soviet higher education system was always different, it's very rigorous and things which partially determine make into rating, like students comforts, campus quality and athletic opportunities are lacking. Personally, I think there are reason for optimism.

Putin may be an authoritarian but a scientists with some experience now earns as much as an IT professional in a private company, new grads are staying. Poor argument from you. You of all people should know that forums are choke full of people asking for help troubleshooting desktop Windows errors. There are dedicate communities for this kind of thing even. Secondly, provide OS cheaply and charge for hardware is exactly the same model that made Apple the giant it is, the same model you think is doomed for fail if hardware is bundled with Linux. Why can't a company develop really nice hardware and use the money from it's sales to develop a polished version fo D. Linux? Sure anyone else would be able to use it too but so it would be more like building a hackintosh.
