    Because they own it.

    I could release Whizbang 1.0, have it flop then GPL Whizbang 1.5. When LG comes knocking I sell them Whizbang and all associated marks. That does not mean Whizbang 1.5 is no longer GPL, just that new versions are not going to be.

    If the $349 version was $249 I would already have one, even $282 would have been fine.

    I almost bought the $299 version until I realized that would be a mistake.

    Why they can't just let me upgrade using standard internal hard drives like the PS3, I don't understand.

    Because the 16-22 year old male can't see any reason for games that don't pander to him. If it does not have pointless levels of violence and lots of bewbs they are not interested.

    Sure violence and sex can be fun in a game, but for them that is all there is. Games that are just fun are not on their radar. Worse yet are games that a child or family could enjoy because they are trying to prove to the world they are Real Men, which is why they behave like children.

    I wanted to hate it, but tried it in a store and now I will be buying one. It really is a cool idea and from the games I played well executed.

    So install an emulator and go for it. You might have to jailbreak, I am not sure but that sounds likely with a walled garden device.

    I would have bought one already if it was a little cheaper. Nintendo stuff is supposed to be cheap and cheerful. $349 is too much, and the $299 version is too crippled to justify even building much less buying.

    Drop $50 and I will take one today.

    Linus does not care because what Tivo does cannot stop him from using his computers the way he wants. This would let MS say what code linux runs, see how that is different?

    He is speaking about secure boot, which means getting a key signed by MS.

    There are a lot of companies in on making sure your lose your ability to have a computer do as you like and not as the MPAA wants.

    Irrelevant in the storage market my ass.
    They own mobile. Android now moves more units and every distro is a lot more than a kernel.

    The desktop is a dying market.

    It also owns embedded. It literally dominates more fields than any other competitor even plays in.

    Because Linus knows what we all do, that this will end badly for RedHat. MS will come up with a reason to break booting RedHat later. No one plays with MS and comes out ahead.

    I see SuSe and debian used daily in professional environments.

    RedHat is only big with a small group of Enterprises more interested in red tape and bureaucracy than getting work done. RedHat would have no product without Linus.

    Too bad in real life what that gets you is a dying OS.

    What happens is changes do not make it back, no one is forced to cooperate and the OS stagnates and dies. This is why BSD is still so far behind with modern features.

    I am glad I work for a company that only has a few hundred employees. I can curse like a sailor and keep my job. I can count on developers making the changes soon and I can count on people actually getting back to me in a timely fashion.

    We have some corp giant customers and they are that sort of unholy pain in the ass to work with.
