    No this is not thought crime, this is punishing a real crime. Making "terrorist threats" has been a crime for a very long time. You can think about crime all you like, telling someone you are going to kill people is a crime. Just not as bad a crime as actually doing it.

    We already have the latter, it is called the GPL. You can't take contributions that belong to someone else and are GPLed license and close them up. The GPL should just be expanded to cover hardware.

    The Chinese company will just as gladly dump ROMs and clone a closed source product.

    The difference is now the Chinese product is more appealing as they probably will stick to standards to keep things cheap.

    Not being Open Source can also cost you money.

    I for one will not be buying this device for this reason. I am looking into 3d printers, and like most folks who do at this point I am a geek. Hardcore Geeks are the target audience for this device, pissing them off might not be a good idea.

    The reality is the lending library sells these things.

    My girlfriend, who has a unlocked android phone, runs linux on her desktop just bought a kindle fire HD. She just wants the lending library.

    You can't sell ti though. You still need to have IPv4 support for the next decade or so.

    Which is why I said ""command-shift-4 space" when you press the space the pointer turns in to a little camera and takes a screenshot of a window.

    I think command-delete is what you wanted.

    It is just easier to open a terminal and use rm though.

    At least that still works like it should.

    The keyboard comment is not fair as there are 0 computers sold with decent keyboards as far as I can tell.

    Switch and spring based keyboards have all been replaced with mushy membrane based keyboards as standard on all PCs it seems.

    OSX has its own pain points. Especially if you are coming from a X11 DE type background.
    I installed vlc for instance, and yet vlc from the command line gets me nothing. Just an example that is easy to fix, but I should not have too.

    You might not, but lots of enterprise hardware would have to be replaced. This stuff has long life times and as the old gear dies off, ipv6 will come with the replacements.

    Large format NIMH batteries are the only one I know of.
    In short texaco helped kill the electric car by suing Toyota for the Rav4 electric. Toyota was losing money on the cars and did not want to lose even more by dealing with texaco.

    Take the PCs you have, install linux and do multi seat. Then all you need is cheap pci video cards, monitors, keyboards and mice. You should be able to get 5+ displays for each PC.

    It might be better to get some typewriters.

    Around here all the power lines are underground. That is one reason to pick a civilized place to put a data center.

    I never said they were the same. I said devices can generally run on both. Generally their is some conversion kit. Like stoves come with, or that can be bought for cars.

    Natural gas is a niche fool source?
    I have it at my house.

    If you need a portable source, anything that runs on Natural gas should be able to be run on propane as well. Most shell stations stock that.

    Wasting your time is good for them, it reduces the number of hangups. Far more importantly It means hold times don't start until after all the prompts have been exhausted. This makes the call center numbers look great.

    Record a stupid metric get a stupid result.

    I did not even mean hunting rifles. These kinds of cameras are not very high resolution, so even small caliber firearms have enough reach.

    Coal firing is not clean. It might look it but it puts mercury into the air. To scrub coal enough to really clean it would kill the cost effectiveness.

    You think those are cheap to build? I sure as hell would not want a power plant without one and I am pro nuclear. Lack of regulation is what caused the Japans nuclear power plant problems.

    So ignorance and greed no longer exist? Because then we can defang the EPA. Until then we at least need someone to go after these folks when they fuck up.
