ati pulled that shit with quake3 and their radeon 9000 series, and nvidia pulled that with 3dmark and their geforce 5/fx line. They were outed both times. This doesn't happen anymore. Now, they do optimize for specific applications and that is bad because optimizing for corner cases has a history of breaking basic functionality elsewhere.

That is ancient and irrelevant after the geforce 7 era, as it was fixed for these cards. Today both chipsets give very similar results. The problem lies in quality drivers. radeon drivers are riddled with rendering bugs when used with anything but the 'latest' games they were 'optimized' (patched up) to work with. They're also BSOD trigger happy. While not perfect, nvidia's drivers behave far better, to the point where I'd rather have a previous generation nvidia card in my machine than the latest ati/amd.

All the new computing devices we have are, for the most part, locked out of the box. ..and while most people don't care to mess with their devices, they're still affected negatively because they do benefit from the efforts of those who do.

Of course, our politicians are panty waisted little girls who just seem to compromise this country out of solutions so that none of them have to take a risk. Long term risk adverse leadership is worse than a hitler or stalin.

We should declare war via congress on countries that passive aggressively support terror for instance..or pull out entirely, close all bases and walk away. That means no more aid, even civilian humanitarian aid, from the US. If we do declare war, have a submarine come into range every so often and lob a cruise missile at a random mosque during prayer hour. No need for crazy force commitments or military budgets. Just keep doing it until they knock it off.

I've really had it with the middle east cultureclub and I just don't care about them anymore. I'm tired of their politics taking center stage in MY country's politics.
