The article doesn't really mention why they think it's going to fail. It seems like maybe the FBI didn't really know what it wants, and probably still doesn't know what it wants. Science Application, the company developing the program, has received about $170 million dollars for the project. But the article says the FBI has spent about $500 million on the project. Where did the rest of the money go?
It doesn't seem to like MsgPlus. I know MsgPlus has some sort of spyware it likes to install, but it's completely optional. And I didn't install the spyware, and it didn't detect it, but it still detects MsgPlus as spyware. Is this just because MsgPlus is licensed?
Oh boy, are they actually working side by side with the virusmakers and phishers? Now what would make him think that? Why would anyone assume that Microsoft was working with phishers or virusmakers?
Actually what the article says is that Vioox prescriptions, ID theft scams, and stock pick information toople porn as spam king. And this is only talking about the spam received by AOL users, not all spam in general.
But how many true geeks that really remember the Commodore 64 are going to be buying new Mp3 players? I would think an overwhelming majority of people buying MP3 Players are in the late teens early twenties and haven't heard of Commodore.
Why would you want to release an MP3 Player under the Commodore brand name? Was/is the Commodore really that popular of a brand name? Is it even popular at all among the crowd that would buy an MP3 Player?

Have they always had this, or are they trying to appease the MPAA?
They've got $9940 now. How much do you think the slashdot attention will help them out? Personally I'd rather see people donate to help out with the Tsunami relief.
Pros:
Expandability! This Linux thing is just gonna get bigger and bigger, baby. Linux will allow the iPod to live on and grow for years to come.
This Linux thing? Is this the first time the author has ever heard of Linux?
From the article: "Email's efficiency falls in terms of promptness, convenience and credibility," observed Yoo Hyon-ok, president, SK Communications. "With the continuous emergence of new communication means, communication formats will develop further in the future."
How do IMs, blogs or SMS provide any more credibility than E-Mail?
For all of the people that are thinking RAC sounds like a really good idea, be warned that you only get 85% of the money -- the site gets the other 15%. Also, it's not really true that the higher ranked members get most of the bids. Usually, people with no experience bid extremely low and win the bid. I know lots of people that are bidding on these projects, and if they win there's almost no way that they're making even minimum wage while they're working on them, they're just bidding so they'll have experience and hopefully win more bids. Believe me, I'm the 397th best ranked coder on the site with 76,000 coders registered, and I still rarely win bids!
How many people out there are going to be able to meet the bandwidth requirements? I am on cable through Midco.net,and always thought my internet was pretty fast. However, I'm only getting a 398 kbps rating through real. It seems they need to lower there requirements. Maybe it would be better if they made you wait a period of time before you started viewing it (e.g. 1/2 hour to an hour while it gets first part of movie, then while you're watching gets the rest). Maybe it's just me but it seems like with 600 kbps requirements, that's an insanely small market they're going after.
You do realize that you don't have to watch 100 movies, right? But anyway, you're assuming that only one person lives in the house. If there are 4 people in the household, include 2 kids that don't work 9-5, you could very easily use up those 100 movies.
I love these project computers we see, but my reaction is often to think that the owner could never go out with the PC as it would be an instant theft item
Ha!
If he was a real geek he'd never go out anyway!
You seem to forget one very important thing. Apple iTunes has 70% of the market share. Source Without pouring tons of money in to this, they will never be able to make up that defecit.

He has 30 some really, really big pictures on his site. He is just asking to be killed. I'm surprised it's stayed up this long.

How am I berating them? I said I'd rather see them donate to the Tsunami relief fund. Not that there's something wrong with them if they don't.

Why does this cause friction? Can't they simply NOT use the WiFi service?
Some how I was so much more interested in the story on Deprived of Business and Sex, Two Men Petition Constitutional Court over Prostitution Law

Yes, Suse Linux Enterprise Server 8 has
Why would you pick a name that has already been taken?

I use for auto-run in Doom games. I'm sure it's the same for other games too.

Well because as you could see if you RTFA, it lists what keywords are being blocked, Here.
