Lycoris, Lindows, Xandros, all look great. I just cannot see forking over nearly the same price as the "mainstream" OS. The look of these distros is proof that linux is maturing. The Knoppix distro is simply amazing. I believe that for a new distro to survive it is going to have to look great, install software easily and also have the ability to run from CD. I installed Knoppix on the harddrive of one of my spare machines and I enjoy using it. A new distro that can boot completely up from CD and show people that linux is possible. I hope that the great work continues.

Most of my/. reading is done here at work on a 64 meg NT 4 machine. At home I enjoy my games on my tricked out XP rig. I use my imac for things that I regard as "real" work. The machine in my bedroom runs Beos Pro and it serves me up my mp3s and internet radio. I have another machine that I toy with Linux. The Knoppix CD and Movix2 distros are simply amazing. My router is driven by a Freesco floppy. Linux alone! I cannot do that. It is still very very rough. It is great to tinker with though.
Supermarket and convenience stores could offer the "popular movies" as impulse items at the checkout. Instead of having to worry about the rental scheme like Blockbuster does, they would just sell them not unlike the phonecards that are at the checkout aisles now. What would happen if Microsoft used this vanishing disk approach to their products. You would have to pay every time you loaded the OS?

Add a decent digital camera to the equation and that would be sweeter.
