Yes, we have a DVD-RAM drive at work that is double sided. It is nice because it will back up the root filesystem (if its under 4.7gb), then we can boot right from it. Try doing that with tape!;-)
It seems that IBM will support the mentioned part numbers until December31,2004. Over 2 years of support on a discontinued product? If only other companies would have the same ideas.;-)
Sorry to say it, but I would not have business relations with you if you can't write in english. But since the email address that you submitted to Slashdot is at gasou.edu, I am guessing that your "business" is just some far fetched idea that you had during a business management course.
As the article is/.'d, I haven't been able to read it yet, but how can you compare a G4 and a P4? Even if it was the fasted G4 and slowest P4, there is still a great speed difference (1.0ghz compared to 1.4ghz?). I just wish I could hit the site so I could read the article to see which the writer thought did better.
Wouldn't that be a 0% price cut? They do sell (and charge quite a bit for) pressed copies of Redhat, Suse, etc. I am on a modem currently, so if I needed a new version of Redhat for my linux box, I would be forced to go buy it (and pay quite a bit for free software).
Wait, so all I have to do is tell my Microsoft sales rep that I am thinking about switching to Lindows, and I'll get a 50% price cut? Yay! Windows XP for $50. And Office XP for, umm, $250!!
You got me thinking. I could pop the hood on my car and figure out how it works, but I don't. I know people are curious as to how it works so they do, but a lot of us just take the invention for granted. Maybe if a company released source with their software, this same type of thing would happen. The "power users" would be able to see how the application works and in an end result they will know how to use the software better or be able to tweak it to be more suited for their needs. Then the regular users would just use the program, know that the source is there if they ever wanted it, but probably would never touch it.
I would just be fearful that the wrong people would look at the source and use the knowledge against others. But, I guess people do put sugar in gas tanks, cut brake lines (or worse) in a car scenario. The idea isn't too much different. Thank you for giving this analogy.
To put it simply, there is no profit to be had in selling software anymore.
Please tell me you are joking. Microsoft makes a lot of money off of software. How about Adobe? Macromedia? Real Networks? Symantec? The hundreds of game companies? Should I keep going?
I believe that source code should be released when the product is out of support (the source for Windows 95 should be release, for example). To release the source for commerical applications with many users (Windows 2000, Windows XP, even antivirus software) would just be insane because of the amount of hacking that would take place.
I do contribute on a few open source projects, but I do not believe that everything should be opened just because a few of us write code that is opensource. What is the percentage of OSS coders compared to programmers that code closed source applications. Might be a good/. poll.
the cost to develop an app will always stand before cost of quality of the app. to think that every commercial app will be released as open source is very naive.
Seems pretty expensive ($299) for a external cd burner. I guess it is a dvd player too, but $299 is a good chunk out of a new Dell laptop (they have one in the $800 range now).
where did you get the $10 million figure? I am certain that it costs much more than that.
salaries, materials, fuel, a muzzle for lance bass, etc.;-)
so what we have discovered is that russia has moved from hating capitalists to pretty much becoming a capitalistic country? nasa didnt want for tito to go up into space, so russia stepped in.
What isn't wrong with the software? That is the problem with the company. Other than the software, the company is great.
Maybe the fact that all Microsoft software is optimized and compiled for a 386 will be enough of a reason to realize the downfalls of the software giant. They should really stop trying to make Windows and just keep making mice, because my MS optical mouse is a great mouse.
Russia seems to be more concerned with sending tourists to space than contributing funds to the further the space station. I guess NASA was just helping them construct a Motel 6.
They even state that it isnt a replacement for 802.11.
Unless you're moving relatively small amounts of non-critical information, GENRIP is probably not for you. GENRIP does not even attempt to compete with 802.11 wireless LAN equipment.

Embedded Windows probably. I'm sure Microsoft wont miss the chance to replace OS/2 with as many copies of their software as possible.

DVD is only 4.7gb.

I have been wanting the source for this wonderful program for years. ;-)

Not sure if you are trying to be funny, but Italy is roughly 301,000 sq km, and New Jersey is rougly 19,215 sq km.
is part of microsofts mission statement? hmm, i guess "great" is a relative term.

Wouldn't the dust just cover the filter then? How useful would the fan be if it didn't have an air intake.
Guys, don't use the phone! I'm downloading a copy of LOTR.
