I've never minded the old installer, but whenever I reccomend debian, people have some problem or another installing it. Maybe now I won't have to spend any time fixing other people's installation mistakes...
$49.99 which includes one year or service. How much after the year is up?? Sounds like ms trying to "trick" people again, like they did with the $300 rebate at retail stores if you sign up for 3 years of MSN... I guess here, instead of locking you into a contract, they get you hooked on the gaming and assume you'll pay full price after the first year... Anyone have any idea how much it will cost after the first year?
If I can't see under the hood (who says I'll understand everything I'll see though), I tend not to trust things like this, esp. when it comes to security. My good ol' linux router on a P90 suits me just fine and I can do so much more with it. I don't see me owning one of these ever, so I don't have to worry.:)
Oops, I completely misread the story, and couldn't read the article. I was under the impression that XDocs was a PDF implementation... Ignore the previous comment.
I would have really liked this, oh, say, 2 years ago. KDE even sets up a "print to pdf" feature that works quite well. I hear {open, star}office can handle them, and I hear OSX has native support for them. This leaves MS, yet again, far behind the times.
Why abiword is a good question. Why not some warez cd distributor?? Either chosen at random, they made the wrong people angry, or ms really needs to learn to play nice when it comes to competition:). But seriously, if you were to do this, why would you choose abiword? I can't think of a single reason besides a grudge or randomness... Makes you think.
Now that kde is being mean and not working, try out other wm's if you haven't before. I use fluxbox and will never use anything ever again. Besides, with only 128mb of ram, kde3 is a bit painful.
With the recent sendmail trojan (which trojaned your system when you ran make), I would assume people would be more careful of this. The howto author compiles as root, just a warning...
Isn't it strange that this gets posted as I'm futzing with my fonts? I open konqueror to test them and I see this!! Just confirms my fears that THEY are watching my every move...
Am I the only person to get the (possible unintentional) zork reference?? - Mik Mifflin mik42@adelphia.net

Not to start a distro war here or anything...
