Not that anyone crares, but this is IMHO the most likely scenario...
There is one intriguing scenario, suggested by Perens, where SCO might have a case but might have already lost it due to their own legal incompetence. Assume, as we have been, that there is proprietary Unix source code included in Linux. Assume that Linux vendors have been distributing this source code. Well, SCO is a Linux vendor too -- they announced on Wednesday that they are suspending distribution of Linux, but for years they did distribute Linux, under the same General Public License used for all Linux distributions. Since all the Linux vendors share source code, it's entirely possible that SCO was inadvertently distributing its own proprietary Unix code in its version of Linux. In that case, SCO would've already released its Unix source code into open source. SCO says, "Whoops!" the Linux community says, "Hooray!" and the English language has a replacement for the phrase, "Hoist by his own petard."
The market reacts to rumors and news (in a big way). Say SCOX is 3.55 today... Unless they file Chapter 11, you can't get much lower then that. Then, rumors surface that IBM or M$ will buy SCOX... Stocks usually, instantly, sky rocket on merger/buyout news (when a good deal surfaces). Once this happents you have 2 options...
#1. Sell enough so that you make your $$ back, then sit on the leftovers and see what actually happens (50/50 chance of making money).
#2. Take your X% and run with it.
But that's just me. If I had a spare couple thousand would "dabble" with SCO in my "day trading".
Below is the correct answer as to why SCO is doing all of this...
[ a ] They want to be bought by IBM. [ b ] They want to be bought my M$. [ c ] They wanted to be bought by IBM but the fell through. So now they are shredding all ties to Linux in an attempt to get M$ to but them for their UNIX IP and/or possably start a price war between IBM and M$. [ d ] SCO is gay. [ e ] Both c and d.
PS. If you answered correctly you would know to buy SCO stock ASAP, listed as SCOX on Nasdaq.
A study shows that if all corperate docuhe bags died in a plane crash, the following events would occur... World peace would be upon us. SARS, AIDS, Cancer and the common cold will instantly have cures. The violence in the middle east will end. All cars will run on water (salt water).
slashdot posted a story about a commodore 64 that was running a http server a couple years ago. It seemed to hold up longer than this Dreamcast. I mean, I remember there being at least 300 posts before it was/.ed
I started on AIX and SCO. I have since ported our worked on porting our stuff GNU/Linux because it's less rigid than UNIX. There are some cool things in AIX that I miss. Mostly the SRC, errdaemon, LVM. We have our "versions" of these tools but they havent matured as well as AIX.
Why don't they just do it their selves and add more value to their "distro"? They could easly take all the popular GNU tools and port them to Darwin. Then we wouldn't need to use fink.
Maybe someone will come up with a conversion utility to go from AAC to MP3. I'm all about legal downloading of music... I just want it to be in MP3 format.
I love macs and all, but what if I want to listen to downloaded music on the equipment I invested in that only supports MP3? AAC wont work in my Aiwa CDC-MP3, will it? NO. Guess I stay with Limewire.
Microtel and Lindows have put togther some great deals for Wal-mart.com; How are slaes going? Will the Microtel + Lindows PCs ever make it to Wal-Mart store shelves?

More at 11.
Shit, I'm hung over and my stomach hurts. That post just made me laugh for like 5 min. Now I'm going to be sick.

They sure dont make 'em like they used to.
(BTW I'm drunk so excuse the misspellings)
In the beginning there was much defecication...
Then there's no point in paying Apple employees to work on porting the stuff.
Yes there is, it's called value added software. It wouldn't cost very much to do it. Then maybe more geeks would buy macs.
And don't tell me that geeks don't like macs. If they didn't, there wouldn't be a apple.slashdot.org
nuff said
Because their target market isn't geeks.
Then why are they selling servers?
There are far more users who couldn't care less about GNU tools and never want to see a command-line.
If they put the GNU tools there, non geeks would never know about it.
Why don't they just do it their selves and add more value to their "distro"? They could easly take all the popular GNU tools and port them to Darwin. Then we wouldn't need to use fink.
Two more: Number munchers.
No, Michael Robertson is the 2nd biggest show on earth. Bobby Trendy on the Anna Nicole Smith show the the biggest show on earth.
... plus a very cute wireless sub-notebook.
Yea, based on Windows CE.NET 4... Real cute.
How about we work on CONSTRUCTIVE projects that would make this world a better place.
Or at least someting cool like...
VNC Server for Toasters and Light-Switches
and
TCP/IP Enabled Lego Bricks
Yikes! I shouldn't throw stones in a glass house.
And the award for worst reference to a slashdotting goes to...
:)

Does the Palm run Linux? How about the train? Could you imagine a Beowolf cluster of these?
I don't want to pay 16.99 for a CD with 1 cood song.
Maybe someone will come up with a conversion utility to go from AAC to MP3. I'm all about legal downloading of music... I just want it to be in MP3 format.
Yea, but it's still a waste of a CD-R and alot more steps than it was before.
I love macs and all, but what if I want to listen to downloaded music on the equipment I invested in that only supports MP3? AAC wont work in my Aiwa CDC-MP3, will it? NO. Guess I stay with Limewire.
