Why do we need to round it to a whole number? Mathematics has survived forever without doing that.

Midnight would be 0. Midday would be Pi. 9am in the morning on the old system would be 3Pi/4.

It's so simple it has to succeed!

You could denote years in the same format, as well. So all times and dates could be expressed purely in terms of the only thing we can really measure, which is how far around the planet has rotated. :-p

I had a DVD go corrupt a few months ago, after being verifying straight after the burn, used once on the Xbox, then being put in safe storage for a month. The next time I took it out it didn't work any more. So clearly the 30-50 year thing doesn't apply to consumer-burned DVDs, but just to pressed ones.

I don't see GMail loading any faster than KMail. Maybe after they send you all the JavaScript crap just to be able to use the site. The web interface has one advantage over POP, and that is the ability to see the subject lines without downloading the email. But if they moved to IMAP, that would solve that problem entirely.

Most other devices IRL are Class 3 (10m), but I've been seeing a few Class 2 (25m) devices around the place. The Gizmondo game console-slash-phone has it, giving it a rather nice range between devices. But it makes me wonder how much power the thing chews through to get that extra space (plus, how often do you really need to play against someone who is a whole 25m away?)

I'm hoping that this is purely a driver/firmware upgrade for most devices. I shouldn't have to re-buy my gadgets just to compress data down the line.
