Personally I play poker a good 3 times a week, at least. I find that not only does it provide me with something to do on a weeknight, but I can also win money. I mean, if you blow $10 at the movies, you leave without the $10, no matter what. Poker can provide the same kind of entertainment for me and I might leave with another 20 or so in my pocket. Sort of a nice little perk...
Seeing as I am now in the same shoes as you, I have been thinking about this too.
At first I was going to look into tablets, and the obvious choice looked to be a tablet/notebook crossover. However, the more I thought about it, the more I wondered how much I would actually use the tablet functionality, and what the overall advantage would be over a pen and paper.
But it seems like adding the notebook stuff to a tablet kills all the advantages of the tablet, such as the really small size. I've been developing some apps for my high school that we're running on a Fujitsu tablet (I think it runs for about 2G), and that seems like a really nice just tablet, if you want to go in that direction.
But what I think what I'm going to do for next year, is get a lightweight centrino book, and a 19" or so LCD monitor for my pc. I can use the laptop for portability, and the computer/RDC for anything more.
My supervisor gets really defensive if I try to explain stuff to him. "I knew that, I just wanted you to explain it better to (insert other person here)". Yea. It's funny sometimes.
Recently I participated in a High School Programming contest at the University Of Maryland. Microsoft was a key sponsor of the event, and even shelled out the cash for the prizes. In addition to that, they had their on campus student rep come and give an informative presentation about their new Tablet PC. But it looks like the contest is going to need a new sponsor next year, as they're switching the language over from C++ to Java.
On another note, my favorite sponsor was Papa John's, who donated the pizza.
Either way, a tin foil hat is still a good security supplement even if this hype is true
Not only that, but tin foil hats are extremely stylish. The ladies love em.

In another suprising turn of events, terrorists have also agreed to stop hijacking airplanes.
