Agreed. Either way we are screwed. We either compete and lose and MS will say 'With the help of top linux developers....' or we back down and they say 'Linux community backs down!'. We got into some sh*t here and I don't see us getting out cleanly anymore....
We all know linux is better, but MS will win any MS sponsored fight.
I once had a professor from the local community college bring in a computer that him and his students built with our parts (I worked at a small computer retailer). He said his keyboard port was bad, because it told him the keyboard was locked when it was not. I opened up the computer and he had the power for the 1/4" FLOPPY DRIVE plugged into the keylock pins on the motherboard.
The kicker: This guy teached a intro to computer hardware class.
Just create a fat partition slightly larger than the linux partition at the beginning of the disk and the BIOS of the laptop will use that to store it's suspend file. Works perfectly.
Well crap. There goes my whole argument. In THAT case it is close to the same thing since, if they ARE indeed in debt, we will pay for it in the end through taxes.
What the hell are you talking about? The bulk mailers are PAYING FOR IT. The USPS is MAKING money off of the bulk mail! That would be equiv. to a denial of svc. attack giving MORE bandwidth and CPU time to the person recieving the attack! Hell, in that case fire away!
I was saying that Apple designed their commericials to mislead the public and give them the impression that since they have a Mac, they will not be affected by Y2K problems. We both know that this is untrue, and I was just saying that maybe now with this blowing up in their face, they will stop trying to mislead the public. Don't get me wrong here, I am not saying that other companies do not do the same thing, I am just saying that this will hopefully teach a lesson.
They brought this upon themselves! That is what the whole commericial was implying: Macs are Y2K compliant, therefore you will not have ANY Y2K problems. Bullshit and anyone with a little computer knowledge knows that it does not matter how compliant your hardware or OS is, if the programs are written with Y2K bugs, you will have problems.
I'm glad this whole "Macs are Y2K compliant, unlike PCs" thing blew up in their face. They tried to mislead the public, and now they have to face the music. Maybe now they will learn about truth in advertising.
This is a great move for sierra. It is good that they realize that they do not have a finished product and are fixing that. OTOH, I worked for a company that was working on a software project, and they wanted a perfect product, and had fixed SO MANY of the minor bugs in the software that by the time the software was 'ready' for release, it was behind in features compared to the competitor's products, and therefore killed before release. Millions of dollars and years of development down the tubes. There has to be a happy medium. There WILL BE bugs in software, and EVERY product is released with known bugs, some serious, some cosmetic. Its a balancing act that not too many companies are good at. From one extreme (My previous company) to the other (Microsoft).
I have had a much better reation from our local Cable company. (Time Warner, Austin) While they don't outright support linux, they don't say "it won't work and you can't have it". I have not ever had to call them for support, cause it just works. They even made changes to their configurations to make it EASIER for linux users to use it and even provided links (in the mailing list) to the proper 3rd party login source code.
It took me a few hours to get mine to work in Linux, and they don't even care that my whole network is being masq'd from behind it.
That is much better service, and BA should take some lessons from them.
The people I share the road with now can't even pilor a Geo Metro, much less an airplane/car.
Your NIC wouldn't happen to be a DEC Etherworks 3 now would it?

Make those bulk mailers pay!
I'd love it if phone solicitors were outlawed!

Somebody outa report them to the Fire Marshall! Hahaha
No, you missed what I said completely.
