This is more a get rich quick sceme by its "mentors".
Work for the dole scemes are ment to have positive outcomes which include a % of the participants gaining employment and they are funded by the federal government.
I don't see this helping anyone but the people running it. You require the skills and the equipement to be involved, and you do it from home. The mentors only guide you and check the code before they submit it to the appropriate places.
Looking at the site, it appears that its a projector, and places the image on a special screen, ie, no screen, no image... I've read on how one "could" do this basically using a specially designed screen that has your eyes seeing 2 different images in any one spot giving the illusion of the image being in front of the screen. But there were limitations including viewing distance.
I get the feeling that this uses simular technology.
I didn't read anything on the site about rotating screens, but I did see that it could achieve a 360deg view, which still possable though a little harder with some of the current and theoretical 3d projection technologies.
Immediately after impact, the image from the long range camera showed a small fire within the crack on the left. I saw it even better in the Nasa TV replay of the crash, but no-one else seeems to have noticed or mentioned it.
I would assume that a fire as a result from impact is a bigger threat to the sample than the impact itself. Looking at the wreckage they still might get some good science from it, but how much more damage did the fire cause.
I think people are missing the BIGGER picture, its not just the linux kernel, but every single GPL'd application that SCO are distributing under their new licence. you could be looking at a couple of million people. a class action that big if it won could kill SCO.
everything to do with black holes is all theory, even their existance is a theory based on effects seen in space, not the cause.
Just look at the atom bomb, it had a much bigger effect than anyone originally anticipated.
The only thing known for certain about these so called black holes is that there is a huge amount of gamma radiation being released from near the center, which is trust out way beyond the edges of the hole itself.
Has anyone even considered or calculated how much dangerous radiation this thing will create, and if at all they are successfull, if the amount of energy released can be contained, or worse still if it would cause a cascaide effect?
Once again, think atom bomb which reacts by compressing a very small about of uranium.

According to the press kit, its 180 degree view, not the 360 mentioned in the recent atricles

it was a fire, but no official comment on it has been made

they just let it fall by the wayside ... remember "Microsoft AntiVirus"
I submitted this story early yesterday and it got rejected ... oh well, I must need to to submit more stories before they start getting accepted
oh bugger! I snuck it into this other o/s ok, why can't I hide it in linux?!
