Update for anyone interested. Put one out this morning over the doorway leading to the front porch, just hung it from a string, and it is spinning and swaying around in the breeze. Seems to scare the flies away. We were getting them hanging out and around the screen door, where they would book in whenever it got opened. Now not seeing any. It isn't effecting the big bumblebees at all.
small compared to profits corporate fine for being "bad"=two minutes timeout in the corner
Anyway, my point is, in the real world where we all live, voting with your wallet, especially with the wallets corporations and cartels have, is way more effective in getting what you want from government than that ballot box politician vote.
**some decent conspiracy theory out there about stuff like applecart upsetting energy related patents, etc, as well. That's how I first learned about "secret" seized patents. Ha! Stuff stacked up in that big warehouse at the end of the Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie
MP3 or whatnot. Like I said, not an audio expert, but dang if I can ever remember listening to any stream at less than 8kbps. I am just wondering where these ultra low rate but high quality streams are (outside of the phone calls). Seems like a great way to save on hosting and streaming costs for internet talk radio stuff.
Corporations and cartels get to "vote" all the time. They hand over paper sacks full of green colored pieces of paper "ballots" to politicians they want to "vote for" on a regular basis. And that is the only "vote" that counts anymore. That other sort of "vote", that all sorts of grassroots well meaning but quite naive activists go on and on about all the time, is a *quaint* anachronism designed to keep the rubes/marks/victims faked out that their opinion on any issue actually matters.
The government seizes assets *all the time* from people convicted of crimes. A to Z. Why should intangible assets be treated differently??? They could just as easily seize "intellectual property" assets as some tangible property. Absolutely nothing strange there at all, and it could be done, they could then open the patents, or auction them (I would prefer opening them so that way more companies could make use of them and get the costs down faster) and sell off the facilities at auction.
Along with throwing a lot of execs in the pokey.
And if they started doing this more, I would bet that employees with inside knowledge of shenaningans going on would be a lot more forthright in whistleblowing faster, precisely because maybe they could save their job that way, nip the criminality in the bud faster. Keeping crimes secret inside some corporation would become a lot harder to do then, if EVERYONE knew they were at risk.
Too big to prosecute or fail is too big to exist. Fullstop. The law should apply fairly or just skip the law, stop enforcing it at all. One or the other.
We *need* corporate death penalties, bad. We don't need any company so large that busting it up would result in massive systemic economic harm. There's no excuse at all to let any corporation get that big and powerful. Banks, brokerages, insurance companies, car companies, pharmcos..doesn't matter. Too big to fail should be too big to exist. And if they screw up and commit crimes, too bad, their assets get seized and put to the public good, and the decision makers should get pokey time.
OK, I am not any sort of audio expert or anything, but this range of 1.5 to 2.0 Kbps seems a scosh low. If not, why (and there is my question) is that the lowest you see for audio (talk) netstreams (like at shoutcast) nowadays is 16kbps with rarely an 8 out there. And tons of them run at 24 kbps (and I am paying attention to b or B, and man I wish this "industry" would pick one and stick to it) and above. Why aren't we seeing them run much lower, so they can push more streams? What's the difference, where's the catch?
I can't believe you said that stuff to that guy. All he said was it is easier for the already wealthy to take unpaid internships (which would be true), and those positions make it easier to break into the industry (which is also true). How is that redneck or racist to point out two bits of data?
Don't bother replying, I am guessing such vileness comes from being a chronic drunk, or a dry drunk who is trying to pass for sober.
The "e-mails appeared to show scientists berating skeptics in sometimes intensely personal attacks, discussing ways to shield their data from public records laws, and discussing ways to keep skeptics' research out of peer-reviewed journals," but the committee concluded that East Anglia researcher Phil Jones was not part of a conspiracy to hide evidence that weakens the case for global warming.
Hiding data and trying to keep skeptics work OUT of the peer review process is NOT part of a conspiracy??? B&S. Freaking newspeak.
I am ALL for development of alternative and much cleaner and more decentralized energy sources, and I have put my money where my mouth is there, but this stuff is just slap wrong on a lot of levels. It's tainted. Throw it out, start from scratch, wide open this time, NO AGENDA one way or the other, ya know, real science this time, and take that &&(*($@#?6%ing wall street trillion buck bailout #4 "carbon tax and cap and trade" complete conjob out of the picture right now, off the table. NO, that's way too much money to avoid corruption, and it is completely unneeded and just a huge skim that would take away cash that could be put into REAL research and development and *deployment*. We don't need any more freaking derivatives. We need deployed cleaner energy production units. Deployment as in get that stuff out there installed and working, stop waiting for the perfect mr. fusion device to show up before this happens, we can use all the various better alternative energy sources we have now,. and then just start making it better from that point. Stop pharting around. Mass scale manufacturing to get the dang prices down.
And no, we DON'T need a world government because of "climate change", take that horse hockey watermelon wet dream off the table right now as well.
I don't care what studies come out, the planet, including all the governments, aren't going to shut down the oil industry. Right off the bat, you would have global famine within one crop season. I'm a farmer, I can state this with 100% confidence. Right off the bat 2, all the militaries would squawk, all their toys run on petroleum. There are numerous other reasons, but those two right there negate any idea of exxon or any other oil companies being shut down. If they get charged some huge carbon tax, guess what, they *don't care*, not a bit, not for one second do they care, they will still sell all their oil, every drop, and you and the other consumers will pay what it costs. See above, you like to eat? We can make electric cars, sure, but you aren't readily replacing all the huge diesel equipment, the stuff that makes modern life possible, out there with electric alternatives anytime soon.
So you are going to need a much better plan B than hoping that humanity will stop using oil products, no matter whose studies you look at. All those studies..the point is just moot without a viable alternative in place. The only one I can think of is an emergency push to find a REALLY suitable set of crops and techniques to make biodiesel.(our battery tech is not even close to good enough to make huge land based electric equipment on any scales needed. there are a few examples of all electric equipment, but to think of replacing all the tractors and combines and crawlers and..all of it..batteries ain't gonna cut it, so it needs to be diesel or biodiesel)
Something a lot better than what we have now for biodiesel, which is primarily soybeans, canola or palm oil derived. Industrial hemp on huge scales could make a small dent in the volume right now, that's about it. a small dent. They keep talking about algae, but that would have to be multi-government seized research, no patents, massive funds and studies thrown at it, then release the results to the world in an open source fashion to get the scale up once they come up with something that works. We can do it on a smaller scale now, it does work, but to have a full replacement.....not happening at this time. exxon and whatever are in no danger of going out of business right now. You are really going to have to concentrate on replacing coal before petroleum, that is way more doable with the tech we have now, solar, wind, fission, hydro, tidal, etc.
I've been driving and working on cars since before the bulk of them were born..heh. And I operate heavy equipment as well. I *think* I grok the diff between the pedals...
Was sitting in my driveway and turned on my van. I didn't know it at the time but my brake booster was bad, and apparently it has something to do with the throttle, from vacuum lines and whatnot. As I shifted it, with my foot on the brakes of course, it slammed into full speed in reverse, I hit my T Bird parked behind it, and pushed it several feet before I got it stopped. Dang spooky.
Well, what was the cause then? A poster above had his anecdotal with bad shielding on some component, then getting hit with a tool booth rfid reader scan that triggered all sorts of wild action.
If it does turn out to be an actual real systemic electronic control problem with toyota..man...it might wipe them out, who knows. I've already seen on the TV their "reassuring" commercials about reliability, so you know it is having some effect so far.
And here's a real wildcard thought..maybe some people have built home brew car electronic disruptor devices, and it just effects toyotas more than other brands, and they are tooling around mashing the remote "screw with it" switch.
I think that's an excellent idea. He just needs to look at the fridge and get a good schematic so wherever he drills the access holes for the cables doesn't hit anything important. Then once the cables are through, with a little duct tape gasket action, silicone seal the holes further.
Before I read your post I was going to suggest a clean box with reversible gloves and a glass front to see through, but your idea is better.
We the people got held up at government gunpoint to bail them out. It was running 99 to 1 against those casino bank bailouts, yet it still happened. Freaking conjob and extortion, no different from any other mob demanding protection money "or else".
And this alleged healthcare reform is just another variation on a tax payer holdup, going to the same crew of fatcats.
Too bad we don't have a government market to chose from.Supposedly we have "the vote". Ya right, fat lotta good that does. As it is, they have most everyone faked out that voting for completely corrupt and crooked party A or B, and their picked for you in the media candidates, as the only credible option, and if you vote anything else you are "wasting your vote". The largest mass fakeout and most successful propaganda scam ever. Like voting for the crips or the bloods to rule over you. And then those people *argue* over which is better....
I am hoping the USA goes the way of the USSR, and then we might have some really different states/nations to choose from. As it is now, it is one size fits no one but the top crooks styled government.
Those casino derivative gambling so called banks got bailed out, for trillions, and it is still ongoing with them being able to hit huge fed loans at bupkis, and carry trade those loans into bonds and notes paying something..the something backed by the tax payers. There's no free market there or the bulk of them would have gone totally bust, with their alleged assets going for what they are really worth, somewhere between zero and..a penny, whatever their office furniture and computers would go for at the sheriff's auction. It's the biggest non free and totally rigged and scam "market" ever created. Privatized profits and socialized risks. The bulk of derivatives are useless, just some way to scam money out of the system. They make patent trolls look like philanthropists.
Is repairing infected OS and apps using third party tools at the computer fixit shop a matter of customization? Scenario: The PC owner comes in with the borked machine, it has a state of software level. The tech uses his antivirus and search and destroy stuff and skillz, and customizes the software on the customer's drive, to get it back to a functional level. Perhaps they also add a couple new features, like FF and OO.
With that said, the malware/botnet authors and maintainers could be charged with tax evasion in addition to any other crimes, by customizing software. heh.
I can think of some I watched back then on the 50s, for loose, very loose, definitions of science fiction, although the last two in the list were pretty good, more..hmmm..science fantasy/horror.
Superman Flash Gordon (One of my cats is named after Ming...the Merciless, Flash Gordon's nemesis. He's a rather aggressive and "catcho" tomcat) Rocketman
One Step Beyond Kraft Mystery Theater
There's probably more, and certainly a ton of sci fi movies from back then, but those are the TV shows I remember readily.
Do you mean the hands-free automatic scrolling? Works fine here, no freezes, karmic running a ppa build FF, 3.6.3. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa

I don't get cable or satellite, but maybe someday I can find it cheap on disk. I'll look for it!
I wonder if useless as disks but still shiny/reflective old "coaster" CDs and DVDs might work for this purpose, hanging from strings?
But dang that sounds cool. And you *know* they must have some secret stuff in reality there...muahahahaha!
I'll play!

I never noticed that before! At least now it makes *some* sense to me.
Would you have a cite for that? I'd just like to check it out, not doubting you, just didn't know about that. I know the government takes patents all the time for "national security"**, or keeps them hidden under gag orders if developed "in house", stuff like that (refs: http://www.bitlaw.com/source/35usc/181.html http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg18725075.800-patents-gagged-in-the-name-of-national-security.html etc, google has a lot of hits on that) so I wasn't aware that IP seizure for crimes was illegal.
