Simple solution; eliminate the isolation of constituencies/counties. Each state just elects a bunch of reps based on the entire state's vote count. Why people continue with this ludicrous notion of isolation of constituencies/counties is beyond me.
Sorry, but if everyone loved those clicky-style keyboards, they'd be a lot more common on the market right now. They don't, for a number of reasons. Some (like me) just don't like the tactile feedback they give, but mostly, they're too damn noisy. An office full of them would drive people fucking crazy. Reading Slashdot, you'd think nobody realised this.
Most keyboards priced over $10 have some unique feature
Yep. The best keyboard I can find at the moment for me is this. No nonsense, no stupidly placed power/hibernate/etc. keys, just a regular ASCII layout, and just the right amount of tactile feedback.
I think it is partly the fact that the population of the USA was probably a fraction (~120 million) of what it is today. It is simply not reasonable to have any contact with any meaningful fraction of your electorate.
That's exactly why the US system is designed for the federal government to have very little power, and the states to have most of it, so people can interact at a more local level... and Ron Paul is the only one advocating the return to this.
Ah goody. Another blow landed in the Puritans' War On Fun. Soon, we'll all be living as their god intended, with no frivolous distractions at all! What could be more satisfying?
I live in the UK and that phrase sounds... disturbing.
Does anybody still filter based on ports?

With any trojan or P2P app worth its salt able to use any port nowadays, and usually encryption, 80 and 443 tend to be the common targets. WTF is the point of filtering based on ports now? Nefarious apps got around this long ago, and it just annoys users of legitimate applications that use different ports.
Looking up and down the street, the most common car seems to be a toss-up between the Skoda Octavia, Ford Mondeo and BMW 5-series. These all get around 45mpg in diesel form.
Once US car manufacturers lose the obsession with wheezy underperforming petrol V8s, we might take an interest in what the US has to offer...
A stunning majority of the prison population happen to be afflicted with Antisocial Personality Disorder. This means they have little to no sense of right and wrong and are actually compelled to do the things that put them in prison in the first place.
Where in fuck's name did you get that statistic? Source please, because it sounds like bullshit. Given that a quarter or more of the prison population are there for minor drug posession, I seriously doubt a majority have any kind of disorder; just a desire to live in a liberal society that doesn't implement hysterical knee-jerk laws.
How long until MS enter the phone market? With Google and Apple coming out with their versions, it's hard to see MS not coming along a few months later with an inferior knockoff.
The latter is obvious that if the side-effects were well known (among lay people) to be extremely dangerous, then there would be concern over teenagers using them.
Such knowledge isn't always necessary; take a look at cannabis, tranquilizers, ecstasy, etc.
Additionally; software isn't a car. Cars cannot be easily copied. Cars are therefore a terrible analogy, and one I will not address - there is little need for metaphors when the actual objects of discussion are right in front of us.
You're on Slashdot. Cars are NEVER a terrible analogy.
He flies this way until he's realized the plane's certain to crash, and jumps out with a golden parachute, letting the gutted aircraft collide directly into the side of a mountain, taking the lives of everyone on board.
If he jumps out with a golden parachute, he probably won't land in a very pleasant way...
Unfortunately, they didn't think to also drop their geographic restrictions, so this is only available to their US users.
That's alright - US users can just put it on eMule for us.

Australia has had compulsory instant runoff voting (aka IRV, though we call it "preferential voting") for decades. It works pretty well.
:-P
Didn't you elect John Howard in a few times in a row?
In the last general election the Liberals won more votes than the Conservatives but won less seats.
Excuse me? There are massive problems with first-past-the-post electing, but this statement is bollocks, as my page shows.
A better criticism is something like, "the Conservatives got more votes in England than Labour, but won 92 fewer seats".

What nationality is Ford again?

Keep them in prison permanently, or put them to death, or find a way to "cure" them so they're safe to be living out in the world
Sorry, but the death penalty is, IMHO, inhumane and has no place in the modern world. I wish people wouldn't moot this as a solution.
If we are rational thinkers, we will consider each point and determine areas where improvement is indeed possible
OK, how about "criticism: it isn't Windows." Start improving!

For me, any phone where the keyboard and other buttons make up more than say 20% of the face simply look bad.
As Maddox might say, 'so you want your screen to turn into a smudgy piece of shit after a few minutes of use?'
I hink he has a point. I don't want smudgy fingerprints all over the screen, touchscreens aren't a good idea.

So, why again is marijuana illegal?
Same reason why religion exists. Young humans are remarkably easy to indoctrinate to your way of thinking, no matter how wrong or illogical it is.

But those billions were quite effective. Didn't they manage to kill 800,000 people or something?
If they were reading slashdot.org, they might actually have a clue.

Christ. That could actually be the definition of greed in the dictionary.
I mailed this letter to CmdrTaco a couple of days back and let him know to post my thoughts on the matter when the article hit the front page.
Ah, good idea. Just in time for first post on the dupe.
