Those might not sound THAT extreme, but the previous requirements were like, Pentium 120, Windows 98, 32MB....
This is ACCOUNTING software. Not MS Word or even game software. We've seen NO benefit with the new software, other than slower speed, especially when switching modules or starting the program.
Ugh...
Microsoft® Windows®, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP Professional. 450 MHz PC. 256 MB RAM. 400 MB available disk space1 plus 30 MB available disk space per application installed on the server.
We installed the 8.x version of Timberline, our accounting program.
Not only do you have to reboot each machine about 6 times during the installation (not to mention the installation that required rebooting the server 6 times), the program now requires like an insane amount of RAM and hard drive space, but NOTHING has changed.
All Windows programs are going to be using.NET in the future, just like they all have used OLE, COM, etc every few years since the 80's. Blame this on VB, RAD, and tight project deadlines.
Honestly, who's still using the SAME computer and browser as they were 3 months ago. All the OS and browser updates after all those years and didn't manage to mangle the links?
I remember them, back in the days of "NHLPA Hockey", "John Madden Football", and "Bulls vs Blazers", they were the creators of the BEST sports games on Nintendo/Sega.
Seems like they stopped working on the game quality somewhere about 1999, and now are just concerned with shoving as much FMV, dumb features, and gimmicks in to their games. Not to mention the games are pretty buggy, the AI is horrible...
We had HP rep in our store almost 40 hours a week. She was an HP employee, and basically showed off the HP printers and helped customers out. She also gave us lots of cool free stuff.
Anyway, the higher ups at Best Buy figured you shouldn't let a printer go out the door without 2-4 spare ink cartridges.
"Imagine, you're finishing a report at 1:30am, and you run out of ink! Who's open then!?"
Plus, they include greeting card and photo software WITH the printer, so you know once you get the PC home and the kids start printing like there's no tomorrow...
I don't know, when I was in high school I sucked at Math, I barely passed Calculus (mostly due to the fact our teacher died and we had a sub for half the year and all we did was have pizza parties and watch movies)
But, I took to programming (Java, VB, C, Pascal) very well.

I love how fast 'raw' Win32 apps are...
They tried to a long time ago. They wouldn't let them get away with it.
Everyone knows Usenet is full of spam, trolls and people who've never mastered the subtleties of online etiquette. But don't write it off yet.
Replace that with THE ENTIRE FUCKING INTERNET and the sentence is still true!!
Comparing present day Windows 2000/XP to DOS is just plain fucking ridiculous.
Comparing a current Linux distribution to a 1980's UNIX isn't THAT different.
This site is NOTHING like Hampster Dance!!
And we just bought a bunch of $189 Sony cameras and told the guys if they break it, they buy it.
Works good so far.

netgear and dlink are the two major 'low-end' vendors now
By NHL 96, I was beating the computer AI on the most difficult level 20-0 in a hockey game...go figure
They STILL haven't fixed the 'wrap-around' glitch....
Ugh
Reject any with any dud pixels (stuck is worse than dead). They can sell them to someone else who doesn't care/ is less informed
Hah. Try that with certain retailers/manufacturers. I won't name names...
If EVERYONE got a perfect LCD, the price would probably double.

Anyway, cassettes were about the same speed as modems of the day, which I found quite amusing.
Neat fact: My broadband connection is way, way faster than my floppy drive.
A few years back I worked at Best Buy

Here's some background info on the original creator of the BUILD engine.

Circuity City is moving away from commission to hourly in most of it's stores, and losing their 'best' sales people in the process...
They won't be selling crap like "Deer Hunter" and "101 Windows Games"
Boo-hoo

You'd have lots of fun replacing $500 projector bulbs every month...
