The problem that most people aren't thinking about is that all though Wells Fargo is probably the servicer of the loan, and was definitely the originator of the loan, they have most likely syndicated the loan- packaging it into a CMO or CDO and resold the interest in the loan to a variety of parties. The covenants of those CMOs often make it challenging to settle without legal action, so when Wells sues itself it may very well be because that is the only way to resolve the interests of one CMO holder (the people who bought the interest in the first loan) against the second CMO holder (the person who bought the interest in the second loan) without the appearance of impropriety.
I agree this is totally stupid, but the system is the problem here. If we'd gone with a more transparent and regulated secondary market for mortgages such as the one that exists in Denmark see wiki here we wouldn't have all these problems. In Denmark the loans and the bond match each other very closely, and you can actually by the bond and use it to pay the mortgage, but that is material for another post...
I think that the problem for me is the abuse potential here for controlling partners and parents. Making people install and use it. Sure, there were tools that would do this before, but nothing so cheap (free) and ubiquitous as this. What is you teenage daughter going to say to her controlling potentially abusive boyfriend when he guilts her into installing it and demands she leave it on? The problem isn't with the product it is with us, people, and not enough time to work out what to do with it to be responsible.
That statement is ridiculous on its face. I work as a management consultant currently and have an extensive background as a technical consultant and let me tell you that my customers expect and demand my opinion on issues that I uncover, even if the issues may range outside of my scope and principal ares of expertise. My job as a consultant, nee any consultants job, is to give the full breadth and depth of my experience to my client. I encourage them to seek advise from other experts on issues not in my core competency, but to think that it would be perceived as some sort of 'breach of manners' to speak to the appropriateness of response to something that I uncovered would be ridiculous.

Certainly better than I would do, but he is losing to people. Good, but I don't know how much of the talk about 'the best in the world' isn't just marketing and PR. Most stories like this that you see on AP newswire and the like are there because of PR firms. My bet is that we are seeing him now becuase Abit wants to make sure they are getting thier moneys worth from their deals with him.
Sure, the suttle can do a lot of things that comercial vehicles can't do. The point here is the increasing abilities of comercial systems. Think about it, wouldn't you like to see inexpensive satellite services? Well as long as you have to rely on the government (through taxes) or expensive single shot commercial services that isn't going to happen. The sooner that commercial services eclipse NASA the better we will all be, or the better the national space program for China will be at least.
I beg to differ on the subject of the cause of the Hindenburg disaster. If you read the Wiki Article on the subject or look at any number of otherscientific articles you can see that all though it is possible that the skin of the airship was involved it was the flamable properties of the hydrogen gas that caused the fire to burn as quickly as it did.
You are correct however about the death toll on the passengers. From the Wiki:
Contrary to popular belief, most of the crew and passengers survived. Of a total of 36 passengers and 61 crew, 13 passengers and 22 crew died. Also killed was one member of the ground crew, Navy Linesman Allen Hagaman. Most deaths did not arise from the fire, but were suffered by those who leapt from the burning ship. (The lighter-than-air fire burned overhead.) Those passengers who rode the ship on its gentle descent to the ground escaped unharmed.
...but maybe there is something to be said for the arguement. The Yahoo Mail experiance is much more an experaince of web mail, the combination of the traditional mail experaince with the web. You can use Yahoo mail to check other POP3 email accounts, it has a Outlook like interface. The Goolge Mail service is more service oriented, you can send mail through SMTP with them and use whatever interface you would like. Thier web interface is pretty stripped down and clean, but it is designed that way because they are thinking about building a service, not a client.
I for one really wish the gmail would open up so that I could use the gmail service to archive all my other mail, use it to check my ISP email and the like that are avaliable over POP3. That might start making them more client like, and less service oriented, but I'd like the feature.
And to further complicate matters... the company that is today Verizon Wireless (majority owned by Verizon PLC) also has the cellular licenses that were brought into it by Airtouch, an American cellular company bought by Vodaphone which was a spinnoff of Pacific Bell, yet another RBOC (Regional Bell Operating Company aka Baby Bell).
So really, the bulk of Verizon Wireless was built from these initial grants by the federal government.
Don't take this the wrong way, without those grants cell phone bandwidth licenses wouldn't be as valuable as they are today. We just need to understand thier current value and price them accourdingly, that is all.
So, while I can't lay claim to the stupidity that caused my most interesting hardware failure I still laugh every time that I think about it, so here goes nothing interesting:
One day I am sitting at my computer, minding my own business trying desperately to finish a contract job that I have to deliver in about 12 hours. I haven't showered for two days, slept in about three or really had a meal that didn't involve junk food or cup o' noodles at the computer all week. I am almost done, I can feel it, so I stand up and go into the other room to call into the office and make sure nothing else has gone wrong while I have been dealing with this.
As I stand up, my cat assumes that I am going to pet him, and I have to gently remind him (read: shove him away) that there are other things that I have to do. So, I go into the other room and make a phone call. I am on the phone for about five minutes and everything is grand. I walk back into the room and go to sit down at my computer and notice several things wrong, listed in the order in which I noticed them:
1) My computer was off. 2) My computer was smoking 3) My computer smelled like cat urine 4) My cat was angry
Apparently when I refused to pet my cat, he decided to get back at my by marking the object that I was ignoring him in favor of: my computer. I, like the tower of intellect that I can be, had that side off of my case and a big house fan blowing in the side due to air flow problems at my, then, over-clocked system.
Well, enough to say that the computer didn't work, the job didn't get finished that day and the cat has never been the same. He won't go near computers anymore.
(I do have to say that this experience is the reason that I don't mind hearing the 'Jesus Saves' joke anymore because if it wasn't for that lame-ass joke I wouldn't have remembered to save my work and I would have been out a contract and not just 14 hours late with a great story to tell.)

That would be LINDON, Utah to the rest of us, right?
