A motion has been filed to ban "The Sims" because it is "too realistic and offers insight on human life and behavior that can be misused in various different ways"
Overly-broad patents don't hurt people, people who use overly-broad patents as a weapon hurt people.
And most overly-broad patents are held by, what, companies that are trying to do what? Show a profit? Ring any bells? Please show me a company that knows it has an unfair advantage to it's competitors and doesn't use it because it would not be ethical. Illegality hasn't stopped some of them, why would unethicality? Sorry for being the doubting Thomas here, but as long as you can make an overly-broad patent, they will be misused.
If you want to compare it to guns, sure, guns don't hurt people, but I'd still prefer unarmed drug dealers and whatnot.
MMORPG Game developers are allowed to release complete shit and promise that it'll be fixed on the backs of the monthly fees people are forced to pay to fund the game to a fun/playable state if it ever gets there.
Most MMORPGs I know come with a month (or so) of free gaming time. During this month you have plenty of time to decide whether or not you like the game. I didn't like DAoC and eventually decided I don't really like EverCrack, either. If it's not fun, who, exactly, is forcing you to play it?
Sorry for stating the obvious, but do you think companies in general have your best interests at heart? Last I checked, most companies are trying to make profit and that usually has nothing to do with your best interest.
This said, I don't want to pay for my data to Vodafone or whatever any more than you do. So I won't. Quite simple, eh?
Am I the only one who's actually happy to get more good games fore Linux?
Ok, so it is a bit late, but at least we're getting it. Maybe one day I really CAN uninstall Windoze for good *drool*
I seem to remember this book-series about "the Heechees" written by Frederik Pohl. The first book in the series came out in 1976. It's a SciFi book, ofcourse. There must be numerous others but this one came to mind first.
Say, did they actually DOWNLOAD the mind already or was this, too, science fiction?
