That could be an answer. But i must point out to you, that W3C-complaints browsers also run on Windows. Same with OpenDocument-using office suites. And Open standards are not restricted to Linux.
So why care about the OS, if you can run what you want?
The answers so far can all be summed up to: remove diversity, make linux look and feel and work like windows. In essence make Linux Windows or the thing that Windows aspired to be but never accomplished. And that seems to me like an exercise in futility, what would be the point of that? A better feeling a greater joy when using your workstation? I would rather have the programmers nessecary to accomplish that goal invest thier skill in some real cause... like finding a cure for cancer og AIDS.
... that people have Linux on thier desktop?
As long as people can accomplish thier tasks with any given OS why the need for change?
If its for the better of the world me thinks a cure for cancer or AIDS is more along the lines, what people really need.
So why is it so important that they have Linux on the desktop, and not Windows or Solaris or BSD?
I like the universe and all, but he never could tell at story straight and get the plot sorted out properly without resorting to mindnumbing overload of adjectives. His ability to develop a story line is virtually non-existent.
There, said it.
Give the user the ability to visit any give page i stealth mode by right clicking. Stealth mode is surfing by open anonymous proxy that keeps no logs or deletes the logs on the hour.
Themes of proxy should be configurable (ie. health, kids, cars...) for added credibility.
Have browser learn what types of pages is surfed by proxy (politics, goatse...) and autoenable stealth proxy.
That is one clever piece of NSA-misinformation. Fairly standard for NSA though. And you bought it.
People who lives in glasshouses should f*** in the basement
