The RIAA will never see another dime of my hard earned money.
Sorry to break it to you, but if the bands you like are controlled by the one of the RIAA companies, RIAA makes money from concert tickets, t-shirts and posters too.
"We registered nissancomputer.com and offered it to him for free," Schindler said. "But he has no interest in being Nissan Computer -- his real name -- because he wants to exploit the substantial confusion.... As for other users, none of them are using the name Nissan without anything more. If Uzi Nissan was using nissancomputer.com, there would not be a lawsuit."
So why doesn't Mr. Nissan register nissanmotor.com and offer it to Nissan Motors for free? I'm sure they would appreciate that as much as Mr. Nissan appreciates nissancomputer.com
Pair programming [amazon.com] is not Extreme Programming [amazon.com]. Perhaps XP cannot be done without pair programming (or perhaps it can); certainly pair programming can be done without XP. Some people have been doing it for decades. (I have, too, in a non-XP context.)
Just because Amazon sells two books with different titles does not mean that they are not about the same thing. Pair programming is one of the RULES of extreme programming, but in my opinion it is the only thing that makes it distinct from any discussion of an ideal customer to production cycle.
Except for the Pair Programming I don't see these as anything other than a verbose idealistic approach to the customer --> product cycle everyone knows well.
The main advantage to productivity is that it is unlikely both programmers will share the same opinion about how to waste one's time. Both will feel guilty about wasting the other's time so neither will screw around as much. Slashdot's effect will wane.
There are 250 Million blank CDRs and tapes bought and used this year for copying music in comparison to 213 Million prerecorded audio media. This means the owners are only being paid for 46 per cent of the musical content.
Are they assuming every single blank CDR purchased is used for copying music? How do they come up with such a figure?
Who buys tape any more? Or are they counting my DLT tapes.
Has anyone tried an app called
x2vnc? It works very similar to a dual monitor setup, but you can use two different computers. It uses VNCserver so you can even have an X windows server running x2vnc connected to a pc running windows with only one mouse and keyboard.
I don't know what everyone is comlaining about. Take a look at the wonderful user-oriented, monopolistic services companies like the Phone and Cable companies currently provide (Qwest, Verizon, Cox, etc). This is a terrific model to emulate. And think of all the lovely intelligible Taxes the government could add to your monthly computing bill.
Wouldn't every company still need to keep an expensive IT staff to maintain all the terminals within the building that connect to the grid?
Your users would still be as brilliant as every, right?
Listening to people complain that the site is Flash and therefore "SUX" is bizzare. Its like listening to my father complain how the web browsers are annoying since they are nothing like the old bbs. You dont't have to like it, but don't complain when your system can't handle it. It makes you sound childish.
I agree, but unfortunatly my P4 2Ghz machine with a T1 connection is too slow to run the installer.
using GCC is precisely what led to several threatened lawsuits against companies for "stealing" GNU-licensed code
You are smoking crack. Including GPL'd source code and compling 100% origional code with GCC are completely different. I don't think M$ would even claim that they own a piece of software compiled with VisualStudio (but then again...)
I simply meant that Solaris is a relatively dead OS. I don't understand why anyone would want to use x86 Solaris even if given away. There are so many other solutions available like linux or BSD for x86. Even the logic behind paying for Solaris on a Sparc platform escapes me. Again because there are so many other viable solutions such as Aurora linux. It runs great on my Ultra 1, and has better support from within the comunity than from SUN. Please tell me why this was considered "Offtopic" and "Flamebait."
Sure, clock speed makes a difference, but only on the same chip. The post I was commenting on implied that you could compare the clock speed of an Intel machine to the clock speed of an Apple machine. For such a comparison clock speed is wholly irrelevant.
P.S. My 333Mhz P2 runs great at 400Mhz, but largely because Intel underclocked the identical core to run at 333Mhz. Intel plays up the importance of clock speed, so they do dumb things like underclocking, and multiplyer locking.
finally they'll see that clock speed does make a difference
Clock speed is something Intel uses to bolster their performance claims and give people an excuse to upgrade to the newest model. Clock speed tells very little about the performance of a computer. Look at AMD's athlon. Many reviews like the ones on tom's hardware show that running Windows on a "slower" athlon yeilds better performance than a comparably clocked P4. If you meant that finally, if apple runs on x86, there will be a better benchmark between Windows and MacOS, you would be more accurate. Until that happens you are comparing two different fruits.

X-Prize is: An American competition, marketed in America for (predominantly) Americans.
Apparently so is Google and Guessing.
because you can't be a nerd and not know. Can't you at least google or just try guessing at a URL before showing off your incredible ignorance?

It's also missing an architecture step
And it's missing testing
Both wrong.
Look at The Rules and Practices of Extreme Programming
Architecture/Planning and Testing are TWO of the FOUR main topics.

I have had hard drives from IBM, Western Digital, Quantum, Seagate and most recently from Maxtor fail well before their expected EOS.
The magnets in them are great for all kinds of other uses and the platers look neat when lined up on my wall. I havn't found much use for the heads.
Oh yeah, DLT must count toward pirated music because it can be used to backup drives with pirated music.
Thats why we need to support the next generation space telescope!

Has anyone checked thinkgeek's "whats new" section?

Your PC no longer belongs to you. It belongs to the phone company...err I mean IBM

Motorola StarMax is another candidate. I have a 604e 200Mhz.

Why pay for x86 Solaris? Why pay for Sparc Solaris? Upgrade to Aurora!
