I'm sure there's some sort of tranceiver available that could plug into an antenna and translate between a cell service and POTS (plain old telephone service)...if you wanted to rid yourself completely of the land line, you'd probably need a cheap ISDN capable router to set up the phone system within the house.
What you're doing sounds feasible, you're just looking for the tranceiver...have you tried Googling yet?
"nobody seems to use or think about text based user interfaces (TUI) anymore."
That's not true at all; I for one use command-line interfaces multiple times every day, both on my Linux box and my Windows XP machine. I find command-line and TUI interfaces to be just as useful, often more powerful, and less distracting than modern GUI interfaces, and I know I'm not alone in this perspective.
Whew! That's something that's been missing for a while. Up until this point, tracking Time Vehicles has only been a dream, but now it's a reality; and easy, too!
But seriously, folks...I'm here all night!
So much for new technologies allowing any semblance of privacy. I'll bet that with a little work, a punk teen could build a device to to abuse this technology (given the motive, of course -- I've not met many punk teens interested in that sort of thing, but you get the idea).
I don't understand why people are making such a big deal about this; as far as online gaming on a console goes, what's the difference between banning hardware mods and banning unfair software mods?
This type of banning has been done since the first multiplayer games. Albeit the mod-chip is intended for a good use, but just like allowing software to ignore and allow mods, letting it go would just be an opportunity for the lamers of the community to abuse the power and ruin it for everybody.
I suppose I'm playing the devil's advocate, but I think that Microsoft certainly has the right to do this.
Heck, if you're going to be doing X-Box hacking, why doesn't anyone make a new mod-chip to connect to mod-chip specific network?
Just a suggestion, if you want to see a (good, in my opinion) example of software delivery, do a search on Loki's (may they rest in peace, or possibly reincarnate) method...
Why? Usually undergrad physics classes focus on things that actually exist. Memristors didn't yet.

Many of us refer to those as 'doors'.
