"Prelimenary tests indicate the Mac may be faster than PCs in RAW image conversion afterall."
Hang on a moment. The last Mac vs PC test was conducted fairly - Photoshop on a Mac vs Photoshop on a PC. Using nearly-identical software the clear answer was that the fastest PC today was faster than the fastest Mac.
Now someone writes more efficient code for the Mac, then tries to claim that Macs are somehow quicker than PCs? Talk about an unfair test - that's like that's like writing a pi calculator in BASIC for the PC and seeing how quickly it can calculate 1m decimal places on a 2ghz P4, then writing one in assembler for a Mac classic. If the Mac classic wins, does that mean the Mac* is faster at calculating pi than a PC?
1) It's cheaper than the new Geforce FX.
2) Performance on average is almost as good.
3) It doesn't sound like a jumbo jet.
4) It doesn't gobble up a PCI slot
I'm amazed nVidia have "released" this card now (well, a vapour release... you can't actually buy them yet). The performance is barely faster than the ATi card... when ATi released their 9700 it would WAY faster than nVidia's fastest (Ti4600).
It's also interesting to note that ATi's drivers seem to behave better than nVidia's... now that's something I didn't think I'd hear myself saying 12 months ago.
Every time? This is the first time I've EVER pointed out an article was a repeat. Why don't you climb back into the stupid tree, you seem to have snapped a few branches the last time you fell out of it.
FWIW, my article was on-topic (poor moderation!).
The last major net revolution was probably in the mid nineties. By then we had animated.gifs, jpegs, database-driven web pages, Flash, Java and Javascript.
Has there really been anything new since then? I mean, since the WWW was born, the internet hasn't really advanced much. Sure, we've seen gradual improvements in bandwidth, HTML, CSS, scripting languages and so on, but there hasn't really been anything NEW.
Of course, you being prepared to give up your privacy sure helped when those Saudis crashed planes into the Pentagon and WTC.
Tell me why you think the government snooping on YOU (or any other law abiding citizen) would prevent terrorists from blowing up a city?
This doesn't sound like a very good simulator

Cycling at 70? Impossible," concluded 23-year-old Julia, testing the suit for the benefit of the readers of the mass-selling Bild newspaper. The joints, deliberately stiffened, prevented her getting even one leg over the bike.
Well how come my finacee's grandmother cycles 4 miles per day most days? She's far fitter than I am, and I'm 27!
"When I were a lad we had to manage with less than a gigabyte of memory. My computer could only manage a billion operations per second and hard-drives were typically around the 120 gig level and we thought that was huge!
If they make it any louder and more obnoxious they're going to turn people away. I for one consciously avoid sites where I know 2 or 3 popups are thrown at you as soon as you enter (or LEAVE ffs!).
If you are a Windows user then you probably have Flash installed and also a sound card. Advertisers think they not only have the right to float annoying animations over the text you are reading, but also to play annoying sound effects through your speakers.
Why don't advertisers realise this: First of all, make your adverts RELEVANT and INTERESTING. Piss me off and I will avoid whatever goods or services you are trying to sell me (I take the same approach with spammers).
Second, "normal" advertising (ie non-internet based) relies on the principle of the subliminal promotion of a brand name. When I drive to work I see adverts for Jaguar. When I watch TV I discover that Herbal Extracts skin cream is a more natural way to cleanse and moisturise [my] skin. When I open a magazine I discover that the local computer shop has a half price sale on, and I can pick up a printer and get a free lawnmower.
This is relevant, interesting and non-obtrusive advertising. Next time I'm at the supermarket I *may* buy Heinz beans over the store's-own brand because the advert put into my head the idea that Heinz beans are delicious and more nutritional (the validity of this is not relevant - advertising exists to sell products, not to be truthfull)
Wow, a new Amiga OS (well, sorta). I wonder, do they still get Guru meditations? I won't buy it unless it displays Guru Meditation error messages. Maybe they could be haiku-type error messages displayed in a Guru's thought bubble. That would be cool.
One of our branch offices recently got broadband, yet the initial speed soon fell way short of their expectations. I checked the log file and discovered one machine had so much spyware on (Gator precision time, Kazaa-related crap and even a nasty little browser hi-jack trick which redirected your homepage to another site so it could pop up an advertising bar everytime you started your browser) that the broadband connection was soon saturated.
Luckily, Ad-Aware came to the rescue and removed 99 spyware/adware files. Suddenly everything was much nicer...

* Macs in general
Your GF4 is just doing them faster... there are very few games which look better on a Geforce 4 than they do on a Geforce 1.
Son, don't confuse speed with features.
Not only that, but the number of games which actually utilise a Geforce 3's features (let alone a Geforce 4) are few and far between.
"Buy the new Geforce FX - not only will your games run smoother than ever before but you'll ALSO receive a free heater and vacuum cleaner built in!"

Another repeat.
Another repeat.
I guess they must have re-rendered the entire movie for DVD then.
To render Toy Story 2 at 24fps to DVD-quality TV took thousands of computer hours.
In fact, there's no reason why a trillion trillion operations per second couldn't be put to good use eve if the output resolution was only 640*480.
...are the games any good?

The law is an ass. (which by implication must mean it's best not to feed it or it will shit on you.)
"John Spartan you have been fined 5 credits for violation of the verbal morality code."

It was initially modded as funny but I guess the somebody didn't have a sense of humour...
After all, NASA are controlled by the illuminati lizards who want to keep the truth about life on other planets hidden from the rest of us.
But you need a really long cable.

Not to mention this guy. He's 86 and would probably make most Slashdotters look about 186...

Apparently not all the moderators are intelligent and good-looking (you know who you are)
