There is a great Java app (available for OS X) called Page Sucker. It will grab those images for you. Its basically a front end to the wget command in the terminal... but easier to use. Of all of the wget front ends Ive used, Page Sucker is the best. Unfortunately its Java, slow and imperfect.
I found a way to map the zooming feature you describe to my mouse scroll wheel. When I press down and scroll it zooms in for more detail. So far its only worked for me with Microsoft optical mice, but others may discover a workaround.
As a side note about this story...Its funny that this guy is asking for a resolution independent operating system...when one already exists. OS X rocks!
Universal Access Zoom Scroll Wheel Trick in Jaguar.
OSXFAQ Reader Tip By Chris Murphy
I set my scroll wheel to automatically trigger the Universal Access zoom in and out feature.
I use a Microsoft Intellimouse. In the Microsoft Mouse panel I set the "Press and Roll Forward" to Keystroke Command-Option + and the "Press and Roll Backward" to keystroke Command-Option -
Then I turned on zooming in the Universal Access Panel.
When I press and roll forward on the scroll wheel, it zooms in on the part of the screen I want to study. It works so well, I use it every few minutes to study images on the web or get a closer look at small text.
For those that dont have a Microsoft Mouse, this will probably work in USB overdrive.
Also, I made one exception for Photoshop so that instead of using the Universal Access Zoom, it uses the Photoshop zoom. The shortcuts are Command + and Command - in that case.
The first thing that came to my mind when I read this was Burning Man.
Burning Man is not for everyone. But if you actually find yourself there, its probably for you. That's because its incredibly difficult to organize, schedule, and finance the journey to BM... so not just anyone finds themself there.
Burning Man is not a hippy gathering. Note the words organize, schedule, and finance above.
Burning Man is one of the greatest things Ive ever seen in my life.
This year will be my third year.
There are many foreign travelers there.
Most americans have never heard of it.
Contrary to what people who have never been say, its getting better with each year. (I often hear, "I dont want to go because its been discovered and its not new and fresh anymore.". LOL)
The man burns in 38 days.
PS. Bring 6 costumes for all kinds of weather (birthday suit optional).
Adobe Framemaker, Visio, and Max/MSP were all created on the NeXT. When Adobe bought Framemaker, they claim they "lost" the NeXT source code. The NeXT cube had a thrid party DSP board with 5 DSP chips that allowed Max/MSP to happen (the board was like $18k). I heard Visio used to be cool before it became a PC app.
I own a NeXT dimension cube. Its as fast as a G3 class mac but its only 25 MHz. The motherboard was designed with a revolutionary architecture.
Maybe we can agree that the NYT is a well-written, serious and interesting newspaper.
I can't agree. I was in downtown Damascus, Syria in sept. or oct. of 2000. I was reading a NYT article about massive anti-american protests that had taken place in downtown Damascus, Syria the previous day. I was there, and there were no protests. At this point, I realized that the New York Times is seriously skewed. I attribute this to the jewish editors but thats merely an assumption on my part. Perhaps someone else inside the paper had an agenda. Nevertheless, on matters about the middle east, the NYT cannot be trusted. And I therefore cannot really trust anything I read in it. I do agree that the tripe is well-written, serious, and interesting, but it is still tripe.
I tried to post the survey that I received from AutoCAD, but Slashdot gives me this error:

The whole "fastest PC" was just a (successful) blurb that got the announcement into every major newspaper.
You can say that again... there were 319 PowerMac G5 articles aggregated by Google News yesterday... and the G5 was the 3rd headline on CNN.com on Monday.
I can think of a few cases where its good to have a better looking tool, that takes longer than other tools to get the job done. It helps if the tool is bigger than other tools, but this is a point of intense contraversy. I love my tool.
>>Consider this: it does me no good that there are half a million windows apps when the seven programs I really need and want only run on OSX.
>And if you specifically need just seven programs (let me guess: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, IE, Photoshop and Illustrator, right?), it doesn't mean the other people are like you.
Well, I said the seven programs I need only run on OSX. Every single one of the apps you listed run on other platforms... I do occaisionally use all of the apps you listed and its great they are all on the mac too. But the programs I was refering to include Project Builder, Interface Builder, WebObjects, Max/MSP, iViewMedia Pro, Final Cut Pro, iTunes, BBedit, EvoCam, Graphic Convertor, Entourage, VSamp. Ok, thats 12 not 7.
According to a recent Forbes Magazine, %10 of the worlds computers are Macintoshes. Dont confuse sales figures with the installed base. Macs dont need to be replaced as often as PCs.
%.000001 of the worlds computers are running cygwin. Thats probably a generous guess too.
How many users can run how many commercial native OSX applications? Now, how many users can run how many commercial native win32 applications?
Consider this: it does me no good that there are half a million windows apps when the seven programs I really need and want only run on OSX.

The Cupertino based Elite Computers & Software is planning an OS X Launch Party for this Friday at Midnight. Apple representatives will be there, and not only will people be able to purchase OS X at Midnight, Elite will be giving away OS X shirts to the first 100 people there. According to Elite Computers & Software:
Elite Computers & Software, an Apple Specialist located directly across the street from AppleHeadquarters in Cupertino, announces California's Largest Mac OS X Launch Party this Friday evening March 23 at Midnight!... A must attend event!
"Ten 26 inch Skytracker searchlights will light up the sky over Elite Computers & Software and Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, Friday evening March 23," said Thomas Armes, President & CEO of Elite Computers & Software. "At the stroke of midnight Mac OS X goes on sale as Elite Computers & Software gives away FREE commemorative Mac OS X T-shirts to the first 10 times 10 Mac OS X customers! Apple representatives will also be in attendance for questions and demonstrations of Apple's hot new Mac OS X!"
You can find more information about the big bash at the Elite Computers & Software Web site.
What's ironic is that the MacOS X release party was at the Elite computer store across from Apple in Cupertino (and the imac release party, I think). Woz was there, captain crunch was there, a few other homebrew members. It was a pretty cool place to be that night.

Too bad Wireless Field Day conflicts with Burning Man...
>800 bucks to replace two CPU's? I don't think so.
You still dont answer how you are going to get the CPUs for less than $800...or less than the cost of Applecare for that matter.

This is news for nerds! And this dearly matters to me!

Dont forget the ARM was used in all of the Newtons/Newton licensees. It's used in many (most?) cell phones. And yes, there are two ARMs in the iPod.
