I don't know about the forwarding service, but I have to say that the tech support so far has actually been very responsive for me.

Emails have taken less than an hour for responses for me, and if you call their phone support, the wait time has always been less than 10 minutes.

I also like how they say how long the phone wait will be on their website.

  5. Top Ten most violent books of the Bible on Gaming Naysayers Have Little Context for Criticism · · Score: 5, Insightful

Maybe someone should condemn reading the Bible, and put out a list of their own Top Ten most violent books of the Bible.

I'd then like to respond to the question "Why do you condemn these books of the Bible?" with "I haven't read any of them."

I'd continue, "I don't have to read the chapters about God slaughtering a bunch of people to know that I'm opposed to the Bible's glorification of killing. I think that's an irrelevant question."

  6. Change in IGN, yet I still didn't turn the ads off on New Ultra-Intrusive Pop-up Ads Introduced · · Score: 1

I'm an IGN Insider (subscriber) and I was really pissed when initially they had the between pages. I was not going to renew it. They claimed that as a subscriber that I would get fewer instance of them, but I was still dissatisfied.

But then about a month ago, they gave an option for Insiders to turn those ads off. That made me happier. Now the interesting part of this is that when I went to the page where you can turn them off, they explained the benefits of the ads that they run:

    Ad Preferences:

Thank you for supporting IGN as an Insider! Insiders have the ability to disable the below types of ads. We hope that you will consider leaving them on as advertising is a major source of funding for IGN and helps bring you the best possible content.

Strangely, once I read that, AND knowing that I had the choice to turn them off, I didn't. I was like, 'Well, since they're giving me a choice, that's cool. And they gotta make their money somehow.'

So maybe for sites that register, if you give your users the choice to turn them off, you could retain the max amount of your base. You would piss off the minimal amount of people, yet still get money from people who don't mind so much (especially when given that freedom to choose).

"Homer: Ma, there's something you should know about me: I almost always spoil the moment. [a pelican lands on his head and spits a fish into his pants] I'm sorry.

Marge: That's because you were drunk!
    Homer: And how."

I thought the Poochie Show, the Simpsons Spin-off episode, and the City of NY vs Homer should've been left off and replaced by the 0810 - #4F02 - Springfield Files, 0522 - #1F20 - Secrets of a Successful Marriage, and 0903 - #3G02 - Lisa's Sax .

  8. It seems like Yahoo doesn't sell addresses... on Turing Tests to Stop Spam · · Score: 1

I've never had a hotmail account, but it seems to me that everyone says you get spammed even if you don't give it out.

I just this minute remembered a yahoo account that I created about 6 months ago, and went back and checked it... I'd given the address to some of my friends but never posted it in the internet in any way...

So when I checked it, it turns out I had 0 spam messages in the last 6 months. So I guess this means that yahoo definitely doesn't sell your addresses?

I've been quite pleased with yahoo mail with their spam filter. It seems to catch about 80% of the spam.

One thing you could do to help if you're a yahoo user, is to make an account exclusively for catching spam, logging in once in a while and reporting all the messages... only takes a couple of clicks...
