    I'm only concerned about corruption in the other party. When there's corruption in my party, it's either rooted out or [EXCUSE].

    It's not like reading the legalese will change anything.

    In addition, I already know what's in the privacy policy: they can use my data every way they want. If you followed the strict letter of Facebook's privacy policy, they could apply for a credit card in my name to "facilitate payments." Fortunately it's unlikely any court would accept that.

    I never understood this complaint. I mean, the government seems pretty helpful to me.

    This was big around the time of Ronald Reagan. Reagan got his start in politics around the McCarthy era, when the government was trying to 'help' by rooting out communist spies. In hindsight, a lot of innocent people were harmed, and not many spies were caught. It was a clear incident of government causing harm, and it remained in the minds of a lot of people. Hoover's FBI is not something we want to repeat, even when there are a few spies.

    More generally, the people in government (like everyone else) acts in its own self-interested way. They may help you, but you're better off if you can avoid depending on them (which usually means having a lot of money, so don't take this to mean I'm anti-government, I'm not. I'm just trying to answer your question, that government can actually cause a lot of harm).

    That's why, over the last 3000 years, we as a society have gradually learned how to operate government in a way that limits the power of the people in it: because Government is a lot of power and abusing that power hurts people.

    Also, the demographics of the general election and the Dem primaries are very different.

    Wouldn't you say that Bernie is more likely to win in the Dem primaries than in a general election?

    He wants to round up ethnic minorities and get rid of them. He's advocated murdering religious minorities. He's talked about wanting to do away with elections and be President for life.

  10. Recently some Google employees got upset about weaponized AI. This is just a press release to make their employees feel good, it doesn't need to be practical (Google employees on average aren't the sharpest tools in the drawer).

    How many school shootings would that have stopped? Not many, especially since many states already have waiting periods.

    It's bad because it's an ad infested horror show. Maybe that isn't something that bothers you in an OS, but in that case there must be something wrong with you.

    Having worked with Nielsen data, I would suggest you are overestimating the quality of their data. It is truw they could do that, but I don't think they do. On the other hand, if you pay them enough, they will give you detailed data so you could probably do that kind of analysis yourself.

    When I watch streaming, it's mostly Starcraft of some type or another, and there skill does make a difference. You are right that being entertaining is a huge draw of many streams. That is a skill that can be practiced, too.

    In real life that can be a problem but online all you need is a good hairstyle, good makeup, good lighting and a good filter and you're automatically beautiful. Basically all you are doing is flipping a switch in the male mind and it doesn't take much. Admittedly all of that is a silly and stupid amount of work but the option is available. Or you could just spend the time improving your skill in the game whuch is probably a better option.

  20. Well, back in the mid to late 80's, we had Expert Systems . . . which was what marketing folks call AI today. I haven't seen many people doing Expert Systems recently (is anyone?). Most of the big hype is around deep learning, which is a lot of data combined with a neural network. Admittedly neural networks have been around for a while.

    And Imgur is likely going to use the opportunity to insert video ads to help make the service more profitable.

    Video advertising is dramatically more profitable than static ads, so everyone and their dog is trying to find ways to get video onto their website. That's why sometimes you see 3rd rate websites with five video ads that autoplay.

    But the money is there. So if you're an aspiring millionaire, find a way to get people to watch video ads on your site.

    There are many things that are legal that aren't ethical. There are many things that are legal and ethical that will just plain tick off the judge and make them look for ways to rule against you. And putting all that aside, some tactics are just plain disproportionately expensive for their potential upside.

    Oh please, every lawyer knows that, even you. "Doing everything you can to win" does not mean spit in the judges face.
