It's in response to this story. Uber had to 'return' stolen files. If one of the employees who had files refuses to return them, then that employee needs to be fired. The employee can't be forced to turn them over, because that would be self-incrimination.....however, Uber needs to prove that they've gotten rid of those files and won't be using them anymore. IANAL but that is my understanding.

Illiac is mentioned in the article. The main thing here is that people are actually paying for full-length auto-generated songs as background music for youtube videos, etc. You can hear an example of it in the background here. It's not much, just like white noise except a little more sophisticated.

If you go to a 'lesser' university, it's a good idea to get a feel for what a graduate in your major is supposed to learn. That way you can supplement your education by reading books from the library or doing personal projects, in case one of your professors turns out to be a dud. Then you truly can get a world-class education at a lesser university.

  10. If you look at the total picture, money put into the bank is multiplied because of the fractional reserve, it gets spent multiple times. That's why they call money before it is put into the bank the first time "high-powered money." If you think money put into a bank is the same as money put into a mattress, you need to spend more time thinking about it.

At Berkeley they have a professor who lectures a huge class, then a bunch of graduate students who work more closely with the individual students. So you rarely talk to the professor, but you frequently talk to your graduate student advisor.

To blame Venezuela's problems on oil is to ignore the incredible mismanagement going on in the country. Price controls as a method of controlling the economy were discredited decades ago, and cause shortages. That is one reason Venezuela is having trouble. Another is because they close down any business that is doing well.....for example, if a grocery store is full of food, they close it down because obviously the store was hoarding food, keeping it from the people. Another reason is because they nationalized the oil, and they didn't really know how to run oil wells, so their production dropped. And yes, the price of oil dropped, which has hurt them (but it's hurt Norway and Russia too, and neither one is having the troubles of Venezuela). You can also add corruption: the daughter of Hugo Chavez is the richest person in Venezuela.

Venezuela's problem have nothing to do with socialism: it's poor mismanagement in so many areas of government.
