You know, there are DVRs and on-demand programming now. Kind of a straw man to compare streaming internet content (which requires a minimum bandwidth that a surprisingly high number of people don't have) to 1970s-style analog cable TV.
It's really another variety of fascism, which no one outside of bloggers and talk radio want to talk about because they would have to admit that fascism isn't "right wing".
What's funny is that in America, we did things in a drastically different way just thirty years ago. Kids rode all over creation on their bikes, slapping together junk in the woods to build forts, shooting BB guns and.22s, and getting a lot of poison ivy and sunburn. Except for the poison ivy and sunburn, it was play that prepared for a future of work, productivity, and accomplishment. The "think of the children" types are thinking of themselves, not of the children!
Now hold on... what nuclear scientists died here? A ballistic missile, capable of carrying a nuclear payload, exploded during its test last year. This was blamed on Stuxnet with no proof. That's the closest I can come to your "dead bodies... pile up".
Not to mention that you need their box to view anything other than basic in HD; and they seem to make it as difficult as possible to watch the basic channels by scattering them all over the DTV band.
And in addition to THAT, there is the introduction of new technology as "features" that don't ever become mainstream. They'll tell you that cable is $X per month, but since it's all digital, in order to actually watch your premium channels at more than one TV you'll need to buy another box (their revenge for not being able to change 'port' fees for just installing a splitter anymore) and to actually see the HD signal that every broadcaster has used for years now, you have to pay extra for an HD box.
Dude, there's a mechanical odometer on Spock's console. That was laughably outdated when the show aired. And I realize the communicators are supposed to have enough power to reach across a planet and up to orbit, but they're still a bit large compared to our 21st century phones. What's the problem with TNG? Are the PADDs 2 cm wider than an iPad?
Not to mention that it's not the fault of the customers, and it's their confidential information that is being leaked. Clearly a bunch of self-serving black hat scum.
Mickey Mouse is a trademark. Works containing Mickey Mouse happen to still be under copyright. Nothing involving Mickey Mouse is patented, except perhaps indirectly (like a device that happens to resemble Mickey Mouse for marketing purposes).
Actually, no. It started at 14 years, and is currently 70 years from death of the author; if a corporate work, 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation, whichever expires first.
I can't think of any such nation in history, unless you're counting narco states. I don't understand why people think that even supposedly democratic governments are inherently less corrupt than publicly held corporations. You buy your votes in both.
Your post just seems like a nihilist form of advocacy for authoritarianism, like a fascist Eeyore. "Can't win; guess we might as well have a dictator and fake elections 'cause at least it's better than being run by corporations. OOOOO-kay."
There are multiple lenders who would give you a 0% balance transfer for one year and a 12.99% APR after that with a credit score in the 700s... forget about the 800s!
It's existed for decades: the BBB. I successfully had my APR reduced from 19.99 to 9.99 with Chase. When I was out of work, they jacked it up before I could close the account at a lower rate. My complaint with the BBB motivated them to restore good faith with me. They are still pretty low on my list of potential lenders, but they're not on the bottom. The BBB won't be able to fix everything, but let's be frank: neither will any government agency.
I find it terribly amusing that a state government renowned for its corruption would pass legislation against lying.
Your freedom to lie stops at my face... or something.
Me: No, I mean, have you been to Pripyat?
Chatbot: Oh, nope. I guess is a nice place.
Not at all, my friend. Not at all.
Exactly. RMS is a lot hairier.

So what we need is a true Scotsman?

You've never seen a dishwasher, clothes washer, or dryer? You've never seen a factory robot? These are all microprocessor controller.
OK, a pile of one, based on no real evidence.

The USA hasn't built a new warhead since the Cold War ended, and its current arsenal is about 25% of its peak size.

On the contrary. Strong communication is essential to a relationship. And tight skirts.

TNG episode "The Inner Light" may work as well.

Considering how many "rights" governments have confiscated for themselves, I agree that would be horrible.
The federal government doesn't want any competition.
