What are you going to tax with your ObamaCare MegaTax? How are you going to force enrollment? That's the unconstitutional part. Forcing enrollment cannot be benign, because in order to keep the system properly funded it has to be regulated. That means-- you guessed it-- rationing and "death panels". Sure, people could be free to expand their care beyond the system, but this simply does not work with the entitlement culture. The program would be expanded more and more (like Medicare) as the left blames the death panels on the conservatives. Eventually, only the wealthy elite would be able to afford "medigap" coverage.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they realized it was a stupid and unconstitutional idea. Single payer is arguably more in line with the "general welfare" clause than an insurance mandate, but it's just as much of a threat to individual liberty.
Republicans vehemently oppose the Democrats' ideas. Democrats cave, and adopt a Republican idea Republicans vehemently oppose the Democrats' Idea (formerly republican) because there are "points to score"
There were about 17 years between steps one and two. The GOP arguably decided that a private insurance mandate was a stupid idea-- and it is. But the Dems don't care, because either way the government gets more control.
Why should we all be punished because Obama decided to unconstitutionally attack Libya? Is Obama a conservative now, because you seem to blame conservatives for us being there?
Milton Friedman was right about the economics, but I would rather pay taxes and have people on welfare than seeing people selling teenagers in front of my house.
False dilemma. Are you claiming that LBJ's "great society" eliminated the slave trade and prostitution?
At least the Linux FIlesystem Heirarchy is logical. Compare that to Windows were you can install suff anywhere,
Incorrect. %programfiles% is the supported location.
the help could be located anywhere,
Windows doesn't have brain-dead "man" pages (how are those intuitive). Any help functions are either located in the Help menu of the program, or via a shortcut to documentation in-- you guessed it-- the %programfiles% folder.
the config files could be located anywhere.
Once again, no. The supported locations are %programfiles% or the registry.
* Once you plug in your mous/keyboard in an USB port you ALWAYS have to use that port. If you plug it in in a different port windows will ignore it 95% of the time. Rebooting doesn't help.
This is summarily not true. I can even have multiple mice plugged in at the same time and they both work, which is kinda trippy. I'll buy that you have some sort of software driver problem.
* Connecting a new standard peripheral (mouse, keyboard, webcam, usb soundcard etc.) windows will take ages to load drivers, display 50 popup notices, get stuff wrong until it finally works. In Linux I just connect it and it works. No questions, no hazzle.
Since I know that hardware requires software drives, and the Linux developers can't look into the future to create drivers for hardware that hasn't been invented yet, I know that the truth is somewhere in between. BASIC Mice and keyboards-- no USB hubs or other addons-- shouldn't require drivers. USB sound devices do, and so do webcams.
* Windows will frequently annoy the user while he clearly does not want to be annoyed (e.g. when playing a full-screen 3D game)
I'll take your word for it.
* Windows will sometimes force reboot my PC while playing a game - no warning whatsoever, it's just gone suddenly.
That's a hardware problem, probably the PS. When windows detects a critical error, it creates a crash dump. If it just reboots without warning, it's probably a loss of power. Since you only play games on Windows, the PS is only stressed at those times.
* Sometimes some of my sound devices disappear for no reason, or it decides I absolutely MUST plug in my headphones in the back of the soundcard instead of the front slot. 3 boots later everything suddenly works again as it should.
If you have a USB sound device, then the only connection to it is on the device. Any jacks on the front of the PC are connected to another sound device. If your USB devices keep disappearing, you may not be supplying enough power. Try a powered hub.
Just to poke my anti-socialist friends with a stick, I find it interesting that a publicly funded institute happened apon this discovery and not a private corporation.
There's nothing about this that indicates it could not have been achieved with private funds. Besides, the objective was to reduce stress, which is a lot more in the interest of the general welfare than most of what is publicly funded right now. It's also not a cure; its effects last for four months after the last dose, which is just a lot better than the existing treatments.
I think their salaries are too high, too. You're talking to the wrong guy. That being said, at least they haven't taken a cost of living increase in two years.
If you want to start disqualifying people because they worked in TV, then I guess Al Franken is gone as well.
You didn't answer why it's OK for Charlie Rangel-- who writes the tax laws-- to not pay his taxes? Or how about Geithner, who is a guy who can't figure out how to do his taxes but he's in charge of enforcing the tax laws?
EVERYONE in Congress gets $174,000, people. Whatever your opinion is about the video, his salary is irrelevant. Keep that part out of it, unless you want to start asking why Chris Dodd needed a super deal on a Countrywide mortgage with his $174,000 salary, or Charlie Rangel needed to omit his properties and stock holdings from his tax returns, or why VP Biden doesn't donate anything to charity when he makes even more than Congress.
Please don't betray your ignorance. Really, there's a reason that there is concrete below the containment vessel. Even Glenn Beck gets this. Pulling out snarky red-herring analogies to skyscrapers as if their design has anything to do with a nuclear reactor is childish.
Yeah... try searching "religious persecution" on Google some time. It's not about endangering the religions, it's about the endangerment of the believers. Or do you not care what happens to people who believe things you don't?
It may be high-income, but it's not "rich". Wealth comes from accumulating assets, and plenty of people make $250,000 a year and have little to show for it.
It also mentions President Reagan in a positive light: "GE's return to rock-bottom tax rates marks a dramatic reversal from the mid-80's when President Reagan reacted to corporate accounting gamesmanship and supported a change that closed loopholes and required GE to pay a far higher effective rate, up to 32.5%." Horrors!
Cute, but I can tell you're a young'n because a Pentium (MMX) 233 would never have come with only 4 MB RAM, the Pentium II was the state-of-the-art in 1997, Windows 95 was out in 1997 (duh), and no good games ran on Windows 3.x. But thanks for playing. Now get off my lawn!
That sucks even worse, because our "practice" is costing billions every week.

Yes, you can become rich without government help. Really! See: "Pursuit of Happyness".

You're correct, the fact that he makes $174,000-- which was brought up in the summary-- is irrelevant. Now go back to /b/, you insufferable cretin.

No, but I expect them to not be a demonic brat.

Don't forget to send your donation to Charlie Rangel, too. Apparently he can't even afford his taxes.

Most NJ public schools are much like jails.

That would be fine if they weren't only the TWO of the THREE MOST CRITICAL ITEMS FOR SURVIVAL. The third is housing: how's that market doing?
It may be high-income, but it's not "rich". Wealth comes from accumulating assets, and plenty of people make $250,000 a year and have little to show for it.

Then it wore out. I would definitely believe a new $39 chair could be more comfortable than a worn-out $500 chair.
Stacker actually sold an ISA card with a compression co-processor. That shows you 1) How expensive hard disks were and 2) How far geeks would go.

As if there would be any cake left over with Ballmer in attendance. Just look at the guy!
