Sorry, but the only difference between the North and the South as far as that goes anymore is that southerners think it's "freedom of religion" while northerners think it's "freedom from religion". Oh, and discrimination. If you're not a white male in the north, you're being discriminated against and entitled to something.
don't drink the koolaid: state's rights is the last vestige of conservative assholes
That's an ad hominem and has no place in any rational argument. You're totally disregarding the concept of regional interest. It has nothing to do with conservatism. You don't think that in left wing meccas like Massachusetts that they have common interests to be defended?
Not to mention that I didn't see anywhere in this article, a statement on how much less power a 10 Mbps connection uses over a 100 or 1000 over the same time period. I'll assume that the lower speeds will actually be used when network utilization is below 10%, so determining power usage over the time to complete an operation is probably not necessary.
Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine.
Looks like he lost his temper (and his sense) again. His personality's a lot like Ballmer's, he just can't fling chairs as far.
One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Dell community when IDC confirmed that Dell market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that Dell has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. Dell is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.
You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict Dell's future. The hand writing is on the wall: Dell faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for Dell because Dell is dying. Things are looking very bad for Dell. As many of us are already aware, Dell continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.
Poweredge is the most endangered of them all, having lost 93% of its core developers. The sudden and unpleasant departures of long time Poweredge developers Benjamin Curtis and Mary Stein only serve to underscore the point more clearly. There can no longer be any doubt: Dell is dying.
First of all, I'd like to see the projections that show everyone dying of lung cancer by 40 (isn't global warming going to drown us all by then?) and second, why are you trivilizing this guy's medical condition? Migranes aren't just a little headache. They're crippling, and much more relevant than some hyperbole about pollution (which wouldn't be an issue if we had more nuclear power plants).
Because CA certainly has never been interested in the efficiency of automobiles! You can guarantee that when you need a new blinker bulb in CA in 2012, the mechanic will be selling you an LED replacement for four times the cost.
I agree. I tried to use a theoretically high-quality Philips bulb in a lamp with a black lampshade. The color of most lamp shades warm the color of the bulb, so a CFL might look fine with a yellow or ivory shade. But the black shade (with a white interior) allows the harsh white light penetrate the room. In addition, the bulb is still larger than an incandescent, so the burning curve of its top is visible ABOVE the shade, burning one's eyes even in the periphery. I have vanity lights, ceiling fan lights, and other areas in which a CFL is unattractive in appearance and harsh in light quality. So I have been able to replace a grand total of ONE light bulb with a CFL and, by my calculations, it will not possibly pay for itself in power savings before failing even though it is also one of the most commonly used in my home.
I wonder if this legislation will outlaw christmas lights, night lights, and flash lights. Will CA hand out free replacements to their lower-income citizens?
It's been established that consumers have recognized the advantages of CFLs. Wal-mart, an excellent market indicator in the USA, is selling them by the truckload. Yet we have this egotist who wants a zero-tolerance jihad against incandescents? You'd think light bulbs were killing thousands each year, with the urgency of eliminating them by 2012. Instead, we'll fill the landfills with expended CFLs that do carry small amounts of mercury and actually might kill someone (unlikely I know... just getting the envionmentalists' goats). The Democrats fancy themselves as the champions of the lower class... has this genius thought about the economic impact of his brilliant legislation? CFLs last several times as long as light bulbs, but you're also paying several times so that initial outlay is going to hit someone who's living paycheck to paycheck. There are going to be a few dark rooms in the welfare recipient's house. We have this thing called a free-market economy: let it work, and CFLs will become popular and cheap. Force it, and the technology will remain high-priced and shoddy.
They also sell "Facil" buttons. Apparently Staples marketing is also infested by multiculturalists who believe that somehow segregation is okay as long as it's self imposed and you can still get your entitlements.
No! Except in my fantasy, replace the 14" screen with a 42" plasma, the Coke with Yuengling or Sam Adams lager, and "hundreds of servers at my rootly disposal through ssh" with "hot chicks to serve my every whim". Otherwise, exactly the same. Oh yeah, and turn up the friggin' heat a little, will ya?
Windows 3.1, 95, and 98 didn't run in real mode either. Starting with 3.1, Windows required a 286 because it only ran in protected mode (called "Standard") and virtual 8086 ("386 enhanced") mode. Unless, of course, you mean during the DOS boot sequence which has no bearing on system performance once the 32-bit kernel is loaded.
Pretty much, being as there are zero enemy aircraft or SAM installations. Only helicopters are vulnerable to the shoulder-fired stuff the terrorists are using.
Almost no one outside of Justices Scalia and Thomas is actually interested in upholding the Constitution. They all search for loopholes in it that they can exploit to further their own agendas: usually gun control, censorship, or social programs. Clearly, all of the above are also pet agendas in Australia (especially gun control after the knee-jerk reactions to ONE psychopath's killing spree).
They're not my "friends." You're assuming quite a bit, you mental midget.

No. That law was passed to keep companies CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION from deleting email, not EVERY COMPANY AT ALL TIMES.
Thanks for keeping the dubya-bashing level high on Slashdot, though. I was afraid all the leftist freaks were on vacation simultaneously. Not to mention that I didn't see anywhere in this article, a statement on how much less power a 10 Mbps connection uses over a 100 or 1000 over the same time period. Really? I don't think being pro-life requires being pro-capital punishment. But since you asked, a fetus is innocent while a murderer is not.
It is official; Netcraft confirms: Dell is dying

That's right-- energy is TEH BADNESS!!!!111
Now turn off your Beowulf cluster of pentium IIs in the basement, junior. Out tax penalty was $500 last month!

Usually somename@example.com works.
Hopefully, in the 21st century it will be made illegal for wives to rape our bank accounts.

Hookerz.com! We deliver! (Used to have some wacked business "plans" in the .com era).
She needs to go to the Commander Montgomery Scott School of Sandbagging.
