    Yes. These stats are useless. GM spun off the financing. They are profitable now, although like many manufacturers they probably aren't making money on every model line currently-- usually the ones that have been updated within the last model year or two.

    Slashdot, why is this modded insightful? Really-- why? HOUSTON is notable for having no zoning laws. Apparently, the town of West doesn't either, because it appears to be the town with the exploding fertilizer plant that alen is referring to. Zoning is not generally the duty of the state, but of the local governments. Do you really want the state telling you how your town must be laid out? Why do you, as a citizen, want some bureaucrats far away making blind decisions instead of being able to go to a town meeting and actually influence the decisions?

    LJIIs probably smell like that because their corona wires are quite exposed to dust. Have to love being able to open the unit like a clamshell and see most of the guts right there.

    My Realistic (Radio Shack) clock radio, with battery backup, vinyl "wood" and aluminum trim, has been working for 30 years. I carried it with me back and forth to college and through multiple moves. It works perfectly and only has a small crack on the plastic covering the radio dial to show for it.

    Not only is the smell of cat pee the least of my concerns, but if some guy was burning trash and stinking up the neighborhood, I'd have reason to complain. Likewise, if his cannabis smoke is wafting around my house. I guess he'll have to run the A/C while he's tokin'.

    RAID 10 and RAID 0+1 shouldn't be used interchangeably. RAID 10 is striped mirrors, and 0+1 is mirrored stripes. Both fail if all copies of mirrored data are lost, but with RAID 10 that's only 1 disk to worry about after the first failure while with RAID 0+1 it could be any of the disks in the remaining stripe set, which is at least 2.

    The national average for gasoline was over $3/gallon for 10 months under Bush.

    The national average for gasoline has been over $3/gallon for 3.5 years under Obama.

    The dive well below $2 in 2008 was anomalous due to the shrinking economy. Likewise, however, was the anomalous rise over $4 for three months before that crash. The recovery point around $2.61, before the Democrats' crony-enriching "stimulus", was more reflective of the real value. Today's is partially a reflection of Obama's misguided economic policies.

    Um, we also have regulations on efficiency here. Not everyone is going to go so far as to sacrifice quality of life and freedom just to make the greens happy. The USA falls somewhere between you and France, which indeed has wasteful homes.

    Seriously. I didn't like LEGO much as a kit, but I had a Robotix kit, and once I'd built some of the models I started modifying them as I liked. Once I was bored with that I just started designing my own robots. That's the way it works.

    At the time, there were limited means of communication (you took days to distribute a pamphlet) vs. being able to post on your blog within minutes or call into a radio or TV show.

    Further, newspaper, book, and word of mouth were about all there were. The most literal interpretation of that 1st amendment means I could possess radio stations, TV stations, web sites, and if I were wealthy enough, my own cable network. In short, the 1st amendment favors the rich because they can speak as freely as they want. Not very equal, is it?

    You don't know much about the civil war. Most fought because they didn't like their state being bullied around by other states, even if their state was in the wrong.
