  1. Re:Thoughts on virtual thoughts on Effort to Create Virtual Brain Begins · · Score: 1

i don't know if this is the right discussion for this... but i hoped that just as we look outwards we should look inwards... into how our brain works, as in where does chemistry and physics end and consciousness begins. shouldn't this be a distributed project as SETI@HOME, getting the same level of importance ? just as i dream of the day (if i live that long), when we get some answers from SETI, i would love to know answers of above. although, i have not seen much enthu for new ideas here :( i would like to (try to) change that. i could start something here in india... would need pointers etc. manpower and enthu no problemo... let me know

    quoting from http://bloglines.com/topblogs
is it just me, or it seems like someone from google has anonymously responded to all speculation. very interesting.

note that the following, like so much that has come before it in this thread, is pure speculation. Let's think about this for a moment: The day Mark started at Google he created a weblog with the express purpose of talking about his experiences as a new Google employee. He left a good job at Microsoft to relocate and take a job at Google knowing full well in advance what the stock price, options package and salary would be, then goes on to criticize all of the above upon his arrival. The first question that springs to my mind is "why did he leave Microsoft?" The second is, "what happened that we-the-blogosphere don't know about?" Mark's blog went down for several days, and when it came back it was with minor redactions and a comment from Mark that Google's management was being "pretty cool about this." Several days later Mark left the company. Who here thinks the folks at Google spent a few days deciding whether to fire Mark, and who thinks perhaps they investigated what information Mark might have been sharing with his personal friends, many of whom work for Microsoft? Mark already showed poor judgement with his blogging (there's a difference between having a blog that doesn't exclude your work life and having a blog specifically mandated to detail your workplace). The outsider has to wonder: if Mark is so free on his blog, what would he say to his Microsoft friends when they ask about what cool stuff Google's working on? Well, you and I have to wonder, but if Mark was responding to those emails from his work address you can bet Google doesn't have to wonder. Two understated truisms in cases like these are that people who have loose lips on their blogs often have looser lips when talking to their trusted friends, and that when someone is fired and can point to their weblog as the reason will often do so to throw the blame somewhere other than themselves. A person might find it harder to find his next job after being fired for blogging, but how much harder woould it be to get hired if you were fired for revealing information to friends who happened to work for a rival company?

i disagree having used rediffmail for over 2 years now i can vouch for its stability. and man ... just look at whats on offer here. its actually 1GB for free accounts. i was a premium member (just 600 rupees that is $10 a year ) and earlier it was for 10MB+POP access, now these guys upgraded all premium members to 2GB.. nothing extra . so for us its now 2GB+POP+fntastic spam protection. compared to others for those in india rediffmail just wins hands dowm, no not because of the 2GB (which is great !) but also for 2 other reasons : 1. its the fastest compared... to yahoo, even gmail (from india ) 2. CASH collected from doorstep. here in india ecommerce , well its not really safe as there are no real enforcement if somone uses your card number.. a DONT BE A BLIND GMAIL fanboy... for indian users its CHEAPEST POP access and certinly the FASTEST

posting here after very long time. at first glance ... we seem to be coming to the stage in teleco where the bandwidth (except at the air interface) is going to be dirt cheap. its a paradigm shift. ie just like lighting up more dark fibers or upgrading equipment capacities at hub links from stm 4 to stm 64 or moving to dwdm. we're upgrading our networks here in india from 2.5G to 3G GSM. and ... man u cant beleive the kind of up dimensioning thats required in the transmission access network. not just that ... the interference in the air just multiplies in dense urban areas. gotta say that getting 100 mbps is quite a feat.

.....although many will interpret the demise of Indrema as a sign the Linux gaming is also dead, others disagree. When asked how if Indrema's death will affect the struggling Linux gaming community, Mark 'Nurgle' Collins, author of Linux Game Programming said, "Very little. The people who would buy the console because it runs Linux would already be running games on the operating system, and the average consumer doesn't really care what is pushing the games. in india, most of the "mainstream" linux craze started with a great community effort by a local computer magazine pc quest that published a RH distro. the writeups abt how to install etc came with the magazine. one other good book is unix concepts by sumithaba das.
