I can't help, but say that LOTR is definitely in a position to be one of the best trilogies ever created -- bar none. It's not just because of amazing acting, or directing, but primarly because this book created an environment that is literally, unbeatable. (no pun intended).
Tolkien spent such a huge portion of his life designing one of the best fantasy books ever created, and it's only right that he be rewarded with the respect that a movie created in his books name will be the best ever.
Star Wars (now a trilogy * 2) is still good, but I hate to say it -- the world that LOTR represents, immerses me more into something amazing than Star Wars could ever hope to do. I will be proud to walk in and out of that movie knowing that I spent my 7.50 USD well.
So, my 0.02 USD tells me: LOTR is poised to be the best trilogy ever.
There are reasons why supersonic travel don't work, and especially in this kind of modern day economy. Firstly, they're damn ineffecient. They suck up fuel like it's not worth anything. Secondly, they're not economically effecient -- even holding twice as mayn people, you're only looking at carrying a relatively small amount fo people. Lastly, the price of development of a plane like this, and the price of the plane itself, is not worth it.
There is a reason why the modern concorde died, and it wasn't only because of the accidents that occured -- it had to do with the fact that there isn't a market for super high speed travel. People just want to get quickly from one place to another, they dont' want to go super fast. Moreover, people on the ground are already super angry about the sound of jet noise (especially near airforce bases -- I know first hand), and unless there is some sort of boom supression technology, these planes will not fly in the united states.
Our airline industry really needs to try and turn a profit ebfore they continue to waste time and money innovating. Sure the government will bail them out over and over -- like they do for the rail road companies, but I hate wasting my tax money on childlike business tactics by big airlines. Its about time some of these companies developed some responsiblity -- and a supersonic jet is not where it lies.
Let's make bigger planes, and try to keep them at relatively fast speeds. And there's my rant. Do with it as you must.

Of course, coincidences are hardly excuses, but still, I'd like to have seen these machines continue for a while.
I can just imagine that one day I'll have the ability to be connected with family across the globe in real life, like I'm connected to them virtually. I can just hope that what the military researches, at whatever cost it may be, will eventually reach the mainstream consumer.

I don't think there is one person out there who believes that SCO is entirely telling the truth. In fact, I'm sure SCO would be hardpressed to admit that they're telling the whole truth, and nothing but the truth -- but on some level that's just how corporate America works. Yet, my point isn't about how SCO is the worst scum to hit the news since Bush was elected -- I'm trying to point out that the open source community is largely responsible for the snowball affect that this overhyped SCO story has receieved.
I've been quietly reviewing the various components of this story as they arise (especially since Slashdot is following it so closely), and I remember vividly reading Torvalds resposne to SCO's open letter, which seems so very odd. SCO is giving the open source community a look at the problems in the code, and if SCO is telling the truth, they have every right to expect some level of damages. It's hard for the people that leech off the hard work of others to understand that it does cost money to make things (music, linux, etc.) I believe that Torvalds, Lessig, and others are just out there trying to fight to make GNU-moral-efficacy more of a real thing, but frankly, the time has come to actually step up and figure out what's going on.
We're hypocrites to believe that SCO is the only reason this question continues to be in the news. SCO is garbage now, but why do we have to taint the good will of our open source community by making them look like they want to prolong this idiotic fight.

The time constraints are very large, but moreover, the amount of co2 that contacts the ocean won't be high enough for somethign dramatic to happen before we destroy the precious things we already have.

It's hard for the people that leech off the hard work of others to understand that it does cost money to make things (music, linux, etc.) I believe that Torvalds, Lessig, and others are just out there trying to fight to make GNU-moral-efficacy more of a real thing, but frankly, the time has come to actually step up and figure out what's going on.
We're hypocrites to believe that SCO is the only reason this question continues to be in the news. SCO is garbage now, but why do we have to taint the good will of our open source community by making them look like they want to prolong this idiotic fight.
I'm just searching for an end to this BORING battle.
Frankly, the reason why Fox News is #1 in ratings, which is a new fact to me anyway, probably has a lot more to do with the fact that Fox News presents FALSE information.
Yes, I remember watching their baloney Iraq coverage. They were talking about it like we were taking on an alien race on the moon using newage space technology. (Light Sabers, Lasers, etc. were implied)
If they're not taking advantage of hysteria, than I really don't know who is. Fox News is, quite possibly, the worst source of news on the planet.
I was watching Modern Marvels on the History channel, randomly, when I noticed that CNN and MSNBC had their news anchors put the war helmets on, and start the 9/11 rant all over again.
I'm not one to say that we shouldn't worry a little, but coincidences happen! Why should we jump to conclusions long before anything really big has happened? Come on now, this is just way too much hype!! When they begin to find evidence of something bad happening, then tell me about power outages.
People stuck in elevators? Please. The power goes out everywhere, let's at least pretend that we're not shaking in our boots, and put some confidence back in our country!

This interesting technology could potentially lead to some better new-age energy sources. I'm not sure why we always focus on warfare, when there are other ways to use the explosive power of new military technology.
That's a good point, and with that point taken into account, here's another interesting twist on the story that's come out...
They're saying that the ocean would thus absorb more co2, but this won't possibly make an impact if the surfaces of the ocean aren't greater.
In fact, Harvard Magazine says, "The ocean absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere in an attempt to reach equilibrium by direct air-to-sea exchange. This process takes place at an extremely low rate, measured in hundreds to thousands of years. However, once dissolved in the ocean, a carbon atom will stay there, on average, more than 500 years, estimates Michael McElroy, Butler professor of environmental science" which seems to indicate that though we might be able to absorb a bit more co2, it won't make a difference.
The time constraints are very large, but moreover, the amount of co2 that contacts the ocean won't be high enough for somethign dramatic to happen before we destroy the precious things we already have.
Thus, I'd like to think that we should still be very careful about how we just arbitrarly throw co2 into the air.
