The same is true for gravity, science does not know what it is just describes how it behaves. Essentially ALL the fundemental forces and dimentions in the universe are "miricales" that have no explaination.

BTW the oldest star is thought to be 13.2byo, the universe is 13.7byo, meaning the first stars formed some 0.5 billion years after the big bang.

Twitter and it's relatives are communication tools, they are a way for the organisers to communicate to their "troops". They are a much more efficient way to communicate than the word of mouth used in the 60's and 70's. However what they may take away is the sense of involment since protesters no longer have to talk face to face at their local club house to know what's going on. The peer pressure to get off the couch is non-existant.

Like many of the other posts you have erroneously jumped to the conclusion that Denton is an unknown startup doing things on the cheap. As well as at least a half dozen very popular Aussie TV shows, this is the same guy who brought Chaser's onto Aussie TV.

Denton is famous for his short stature but he is anything but an obstinate child. He is highly intelligent, has a razor wit, and IMHO makes some of the best Aussie TV shows on air, he also served as executive producer and script editor for "The Chasers". His company goes by the name of "Zapruder's other films" ( Zapruder being the guy who filmed JFK's assasination ).

He has not moaned about it being unfair, nor has he thrown a tantrum, the media have picked up the story because he is such a well known and popular figure in Aussie TV. Denton of course is getting a bunch of free publicity for his free film but everyone here in Oz already knows the guy is way too smart to knock back free publicity.

I'm not doubting them, just wonering how it was determined. My only nitpick of your reasonable theory is that it assumes the new planet has no moon. If it does have a moon then it cannot be tidally locked to both it's star and it's moon at the same time.

Tides on Earth are (mostly) due to the moon, Venus has no moon, we have no idea if this new planet has any moons. A planet cannot be tidally locked to both it's parent star AND it's orbiting moon(s) at the same time.

That's sound reasoning based on the information in TFA but I'm curious as to how they determined it was tidally locked? - They can't see the surface so was it determined by a "spherical cow" calculation based on the age of the star?

Also even if it is tidally locked to it's star how do we know it doesn't have moon(s) large enough to cause tidal pumping? After all it's the lack of moons that cause a lack of tidal forces on Venus.

Censorship is something done by governments to their citizens under the threat of prosecution, if something is censored no search engine could legally show it to you. US decency laws that define what can and can't be shown on broadcast TV (Jackson's nipples) is an example of REAL censorship.

If google did NOT show the "unsavory" results after hitting enter it's still not censorship, it's simply google excersing their right to control their own service offering within the law. Wether people can or cannot figure out how to use google's service is totally irrelevant.
