I'd suggest that the author is off by at least 40 years. Check out Riverbank Labs in Geneva, IL.
With the onset of World War I, Colonel Fabyan offered the services of his Department of Codes and Ciphers to the Federal Government. Due to the fact that the government had no existing department for this kind of work, they accepted. Riverbank began receiving encoded messages to work on breaking which had been intercepted by the government from unfriendly sources. For many, even today, codes and ciphers are an unknown entity. When the Friedmans began to research sources on codes and ciphers to assist them on the Baconian theory, they realized there was very little written about it. Thus, their work was groundbreaking in developing literature in the field.
Customer Service? I'm still waiting for my iPod battery replacement. My G4 has gone back to Apple 5 times in 2.5 yrs, and fortunately, I purchased Apple's Maint for just such problems. Yes, the turn-around was quick with no additional cost.
Or, the Apple policy of no return after they've installed additional memory in my new G4.
Try navigating the info maze on the Apple website.
Several observations:
1. Your employees appear to be taking most if not all of the financial risks. What have you at risk? What is the average project length, start to bonus? Are you paying the bonus on project completion or when your client pays you? If so, what is the time lag between invoice and payment?
2. Are your employees W4's or 1099 contractors? My experience has been that bonuses paid to employees get taxed at the annualized rate of the bonus rather than averaged, unless this has changed.
3. I'm not certain that if your employees went out on their own the labor rate would drop all that much. Their overhead would be less than yours, so they'd only have to underbid you by a 1$ and earn a much more attractive bonus, that is, until they began building their own business.
4. One still earns more money having someone working for them than working for yourself.
Truth be told, I think the market for this aircraft is very limited, chiefly long-haul international routes. Imagine the reaction the first time this plane crashed, fully-loaded with 800+ souls on board, and it will happen. Imagine standing in the lines needed to board and un-board this behemoth. Imagine a plane this size, 4 engines and you have a shoulder launched missile. I for one, can't imagine a scenario where I would even consider flying much less boarding a flying object of this size and speed.

It would seem from the posts that no respondent has yet to read the article. Had they, the true surprise would be: the farmers who discovered natural selection and mutation of the Coca Plant into one that is immune to RoundUp, and in four years Boliviana Negra has become THE plant to grow by these enterprising farmers. So much for high tech chemicals, what a tribute to nature.

Guess we now know why there's a new president.

I much preferred the robo-bartender! Can't wait for a robo-lover who doesn't talk back and does what I want. Petra
