How am I supposed to enter URIs and fill out forms on this thing? If the system is the same as for entering names in games, it's going to take a loong time. But you could always make a page with all your favourite links, I guess.

Then again, maybe you won't be able to access any other sites than theirs anyway : "X-traFun, Inc. 8. Where is the MX300? on Hardware Bytes · · Score: 1

It may be the "lower end" model to granny and pops, who think the 37 buttons on the MX700&500 are neat (not to mention the "oo, shiny"-factor), but for gaming, this is IMHO the best mouse on the market.

For gaming, three buttons + wheel is more than enough. It is simply impossible to maintain precise control of the mouse while using all of those buttons. If you look a foot to the left of your mouse, you'll find you have another hand as well, and a keyboard with over a hundred keys.

And wireless just doesn't cut it for gaming other than minesweeper and solitaire. The hassle of using a cable mouse is nothing compared to the lag and the weight of the batteries on a wireless mouse.

Another factor is the shape. The shape of the MX300 is the same as the Pilot wheel mouse, which is arguably one of the best ball mouse ever made. It is perfectly symmetrical as well, and should work just as well for you lefties as for the rest of us.

If you intend to use your rodent for playing games, I suggest you stay clear of the MX700, and take a look at the MX300. For the difference in price, you'll get a good mat as well, which will improve your gaming experience much more than the extra buttons.

  9. Re:Quake - 2D? on Sharp 3D Monitor Next Year · · Score: 1

    > Eh. Quake 2 takes place in 2 planes. Just because it tricks your simple mind into thinking it resembles 3 planes, doesn't mean it IS 3 planes. It's a simple optical illusion. Like changing the picture more than 24 times per second brings the appearance of Motion. But the thing you are animating doesn't reall MOVE anywhere.

Super Mario is a 2D game. Making that 3D would be impressive (and it was :)

Quake takes place in three planes. It is not a platform game. It is displayed on a (relatively) flat screen, as a 2d rendering of that 3D world. But the gameplay is 3d.

And what this monitor does is no different from what mine does. It tricks your mind into think that you are seeing a 3d world - it just tricks it into seeing "depth" as well.

A real 3d monitor would have to have real voxels. which would be cool as hell, but very hard. Tricking the mind is cheaper and easier.

  10. Quake - 2D? on Sharp 3D Monitor Next Year · · Score: 1

Since when is Quake 2D? When it came out, it was "the first real 3d game".
