They'll install monitoring to shut off AC for a few minutes during peak hours, automatically send free fluorescent bulbs every six months, include a newsletter with energy saving tips along with the bill, etc. Local mass media advertising too.
Where do you live at where they do this??
I live in New Orleans, can't get a lot further south than that, and I've never heard of such measures....and my AC stays on 24/7 from bout late April through end of Oct.
If the complete MACs are never recorded, then those logs have no use to the "Three Letter Agencies" that you're so terrified of.
And...what is to stop them from changing their minds a year or so down the road to start gathering the MACs from the bluetooth devices and then make it valuable?
For the most part, traditionally men are the IT guys, and women are the secretaries. A statement of fact isn't sexism or racism, but just a description of what is usually fact.
The OP wasn't pushing an agenda one way or the other...
Nothing is unprecedented. The government has been collecting all of your data for years,
I would posit that the past collections, by different departments (that often consist off stove pipe systems that can't easily exchange info) was quite different than the large gathering now, along with wide spread aggregation of other govt (and some private systems I'm sure, remember them getting info from Acxiom?)....tying it all together along with your health records and the short step to social accounts, etc?
No, I'd say this is one large step that is unprecedented. I'd imagine much of this info would be used to help "clean" up NSA gathered data for them.
On that note...an interesting article how Acxiom helps clean up data for others: LINK to article where Acxiom helps clean up your data for Facebook..
which is not a valid argument for any NSA actions against a friendly country.
Err...all countries spy on each other, even the "friendly" ones.
This isn't something new.
I'm not frankly worried about the NSA spying on foreign countries...only that they ARE spying on US citizens on US soil, something that is illegal and unconstitutional.
All countries spy...if you're country does not, then you are putting yourself voluntarily at a disadvantage when dealing with others in all aspects of world interactions.
Brining Obama into it frames the discussion on partisan politics. The discussion becomes "Obama and the democrats are corrupt, look at this no bid contract" instead of "The entire goverment, regardless of political party, is corrupt; no bid contracts have been part of the goverment bidding process for years and we need to reform it now".
We get nowhere when we fight about one party over another. But thats how all the debates are framed, and partisan drones are programmed to jump all over the opportunity to blame opposing party while ignoring the same transgressions when it is their party being bad.
I think it frames it in terms of arguments of a federal website and program that is going to be gathering unprecedented personal and medical information on US citizens, and that is showing incredible ineptness of design and implementation through its first website portal is a fair argument to be brought up by anyone remotely concerned about their information, the safety of the information...and well frankly, what the govt does with that info.
It is now called Obamacare...because he owned the name itself awhile back....so, the ACA is synonymous with Obamacare.
No matter what you call it....there is justifiable cause for concern.
Remember the other day about the code viewable in the source of the ACA website about "no expectation of privacy"?
Their weather conditions may be one problem, but one problem that is gonna grow to possibly an even more DIRE problem, is the soil nutrition depletion...due to the way out agribusiness is working up there, to using almost a mono-culture of planting the same fields over and over again with same couple of products, mostl 'dent' corn (I think is the name of it)....and wheat.
We're mostly growing crops that nutritionally not the best for our population, and by not rotating in crops of different nature (how about more green leafy veggies or other veggies that can be eaten fresh and not processed 1400 different ways before consumption?) or allowing fields sufficient time to recover...the soil depletion will likely be the death of the food basket section of the US.
I think what the goverment shutdown showed is...how much the bloat that is there is really NOT NEEDED...but is only self serving for the federal govt. entity itself.
Very FEW average citizens were in any way affected in any significant way, and for many of us, if the 24/7 news machine hadn't been railing how much of a 'disaster' this was....the majority of the US public would have never noticed that the federal government had 'shut down' at all.
The government doesn't grow food. It gives people money to buy food but relies on the market to respond to the increased demand and provide it.
The government doesn't provide housing. It give people subsidies to buy housing and relies on the market to provide housing.
The government doesn't provide medical care (except at the VA). It gives people subsides and relies on the market to provide medical care.
There seems to be few problems for the government that can't be solved by giving away more money and having faith that the magic of the market will provide.
Hmm. I'm still looking through my copy of the US Constitution and trying to find where in the world the Federal Govt is supposed to be in the business of providing or helping with "food production, housing, or medical care" as part of its limited, enumerated powers and responsibilities in the Constitution which defines what it is supposed to be and do.
you fucking idiot. you help the poor able bodied because if they go hungry they start to amass on the streets. letting people go hungry is the first step towards an actial revolution. or you could just work the make something like "The Purge" leg, and go kill them all.
startt to amass on the streets. where exactly do you think this farce begins?
Funny...before we started all this welfare state we're in now, we didn't have any riots, or amassing in the streets. No...they got off their fuckin' asses and found a job and worked.
If I'm reading you right, what you're actually saying is that the ACA will cost money to implement, and cost money into the future as well. But you know what? Doing stuff for people costs money. Helping poor people costs money. Fixing the worst economic downturn and the worst economic inequalities in decades costs money. And I don't mean "costs money that we have to give to the super-wealthy, so they'll be even more super-wealthy." Trickle-down economics is a pretty solidly discredited theory by this point. Empirical evidence just doesn't bear it out.
Helping out the poor...is that something mandated by the US Constitution? Is this something the govt should be doing? I mean, I can see having a safety net for those who are elderly and infirmed and cannot work...but for those able bodied...why give them money? Wouldn't be a bit more 'hungry" be a bit more incentive to work harder rather than stay at home and have more kids they can't afford?
And you statement about "worst economic inequalities"....where in the world is the US federal govt. mandated to right this wrong? Seriously, where in the constitution is the US federal govt charged with redistributing wealth from the haves to the have nots?!?!
I don't have a problem paying a fair amount of taxes, for what the govt should be charged with doing...roads, defense of our country and borders..infrastructure and yes, I'm good with a true safety net for those that cannot work. But we have a bloated and wasteful govt that has long expanded past its limited, enumerated powers and responsibilities, and needs to be seriously reigned in.....not given more money to waste and allowed to expand into our lives even more.
The federal govt was set up to be a somewhat weak and limited entity with most of the power going to the states...we need to move more back to that direction, since you state is more responsive to your needs than a bloated, one size fits all federal govt.
Just how stupid are you? They gave you exactly the same card with exactly the same functionality as everyone else. Then they told you your card is special, and you bought it?
The only thing special is you... In a short bus kind of way.
Not sure what you're smoking today...but yes. The debit card has the visa symbol on it and can be used to buy things.
A regular, plain ATM card does not have the VISA logo, and it can ONLY be used with my PIN code to withdraw cash from the ATM, it cannot be used to make purchases on its own.
A small exercise: Consider what your conclusion would be if you changed the words from "being mean" to "harrassment."
No difference really...
When you're a child/kid under age of majority, it is "being mean". It shouldn't have any legal ramifications unless an adult, which is what I'm guessing you're trying to do with using a 'legal" term like harrassment.
Kids are kids, they've always done this, I went through it too as a child in one state I lived in. I dealt with it....and actually over came it before we moved to another state for my Dad's job.
But it strengthened me, AND I never bullied or tormented others since I knew what it felt like...it made me a more empathetic person towards others in some ways.
But, it is a part of childhood. Hell, we're already making criminals out of children with them using their fingers to pretend its a gun and saying *bang* *bang*....this zero tolerance shit is out of hand with kids.
Let kids be kids...and MAKE parents be parents again.
One wonders just how much the debit card fee is jacked up
Thankfully...I don't have/use a Debit Card. I ask my bank for a plain, simple non-debit ATM card.
I use that when I need cash to carry around for the week...and I'm good to go.
I still prefer the anonymity of cash, and since it doesn't abstract the spending of your money (much like chips in a casino)...I have a better feel where my money is going every week for living expenses (groceries, etc).
For the financially privileged set it frequently feels like success. They're not at the top of the social pyramid because they're nice people.
Err...that's a bit of a broad statement.
I've known plenty of people that were/are wealthy, popular...top of the "social pyramid" as you said, that are perfectly nice and great folks to be around.
There's assholes on all strata of society....but I find so far, that in most of my contacts with the different strata in society, folks are generally nice and good people.
And, I don't tolerate nor associate with assholes no matter who they are...I drop them from my circle of friends quickly.
Not if you don't own a car, or choose not to drive it on public roadways (you can build your own race track on private land and drive all you want w/o insurance..or any other privately owned land).
In some states...you don't have to buy insurance even if on public roads, if you can put up into an account an amount of money (I forget the exact term)...like into escrow or something for emergencies, but it is private savings, nothing you have to purchase from a company.
Canada "fucking NATIONALIZED healthcare." The United Kingdom "fucking NATIONALIZED healthcare."
Hey, that's great for them...really.
You seem to have a problem with the majority of people in the US not wanting to NATIONALIZE heathcare. Its our choice, and most folks here don't want it....and what we got rammed through by the Dems when they had supermajority, seems to kinda blow too, in terms of cost, red tape and confusion.
Many in the US *do* agree something needs to be done, and that maybe starting over from scratch might indeed be the best way to do it...maybe start reforms in smaller pieces everyone can agree on?
Where do you live at where they do this??
I live in New Orleans, can't get a lot further south than that, and I've never heard of such measures....and my AC stays on 24/7 from bout late April through end of Oct.

So, linux and OSX aren't doing anything in the background too?
Oops...missed the previous LINK above to the Acxiom and Facebook program to help make sure they know who you are, no matter what names you use.
I would posit that the past collections, by different departments (that often consist off stove pipe systems that can't easily exchange info) was quite different than the large gathering now, along with wide spread aggregation of other govt (and some private systems I'm sure, remember them getting info from Acxiom ?)....tying it all together along with your health records and the short step to social accounts, etc?

I think the most important thing a college degree does for you..is get your foot in the door of a first job or two.
As you get older, it is resume experience that lands you the better paying gigs.
Err...all countries spy on each other, even the "friendly" ones.

Smart people start turning off the fscking bluetooth systems in their cars....
What's your problem with his statement?
We're mostly growing crops that nutritionally not the best for our population, and by not rotating in crops of different nature (how about more green leafy veggies or other veggies that can be eaten fresh and not processed 1400 different ways before consumption?) or allowing fields sufficient time to recover...the soil depletion will likely be the death of the food basket section of the US.

I"m still trying to figure who the fuck this Tyler Perry is.....seems to have a lot of black tv shows and movies.
But, one big problem I see with this, is likely that you will be giving your fucking phone number to every website you want to log onto using this.
I'm trying desperately to not give them any identifiable information on who I am, not more!!
Funny...before we started all this welfare state we're in now, we didn't have any riots, or amassing in the streets. No...they got off their fuckin' asses and found a job and worked.
