Yep..you think it is bad having your CC's number hacked....wait till your mental health records get out...and everyone knows those "deep dark" secrets you keep that only your therapist knew till then...
Perhaps because they gave the job to a company whose worker pool isn't generally comprised of US citizens, but instead populated with *ahem* engineers formerly employed by the Quickie Mart?
I'm just telling it like it is....I didn't make it this way, and I certainly can't change it.
I'm just saying, "this is how it presently is, and has been for awhile now"....and that if you want to succeed today, you'd better accept it and learn to work within that paradigm.
And really, aside from a few exceptions, when has work not always been somewhat "mercenary"?
I mean, if they weren't paying you, you'd certainly not be spending your 8 hours a day there for free, right?
I am definitely speaking with knowledge of the age range.
:)
Next, one either walks into a position with the intent to leave it for the next or hopefully work at said job for a long time.
The days of a job for life, or even a LONG term gig, have been over for a long time, No one should take a job with the hope of keeping it more than 4 years or so realistically.
if you're younger, you should be job hopping every 3 years or so, if working W2 jobs...to get promotions and raises.
But that mindset of staying on forever in one job, one city even...are long gone if you really want to succeed and make any type of decent money. No matter what your plans, however, everyone needs to develop some social skills, REAL people skills, not just texting or FB'ing all the time, but in person, "I know him" type skills....they are really necessary in this day in age.
It isn't always the most qualified that get in and get the good jobs...more often than not, it is who you know over what you know....
I guess age hurts in W2 normal jobs, but at age 40-60yrs, consulting and contracting VALUE those experience years and give you shots at high paying jobs that youth simply aren't even considered for. You have to be willing to change paradigms, but you can easily get good paying jobs with age in the IT market, you just have to be willing to move, change and get with the trend.
I've been experiencing considerable frustration in a job hunt. I have a couple of hurdles to overcome -- notably age discrimination (I'm 58). Talking with other folks about this, many of them quite a bit younger, has made me realize that there is a significant problem in the digitization of the employment application process.
With your age and experience, you should seriously look into contracting..specifically govt contracting.
With those jobs, experience counts...
And also, why at this point in your life are you cold calling companies for jobs? In all this time, have you not been networking to know people to help you get in the door with a new job?
Knowing people is generally how you get into jobs past thoughtless HR folks. Only noobs should generally be having to cold call for jobs...experienced folks should have a network of relationships to help get the next job after the next job...etc.
Err...why is there a requirement to check the ID of a guest? You mean you can't check into a hotel there, pay with cash anonymously, without showing a govt ID in NYC?
Why on earth do they have a regulation like that? What business is it of the govt who is staying where?
I'm finding that unless you ARE a federal govt worker, this "shutdown" isn't really impacting much on any normal citizen working in the private sector.
Sure, you might not get to visit a national park, but there's worse things in the world than this slight inconvenience.
Other than that...it doesn't seem to really be impacting the majority of US citizens in much of any meaningful way.
Not for long... their new business model is that they will let you have access to their cloud if you give them a credit card number, and keep paying them regularly.
Yep..that's the reason I stopped at CS6 versions of everything with Adobe. It will last me quite awhile I believe and by then, either they may change their business model, or competitors will be in the market by then that are in the same ballpark with functionality.
It is only commercial photography where you're making money off the images.
If not for that, just freely pubished, or even paid for if in an editorial context, you're perfectly legal to take and publish such images of people in public places.
However, cayenne8, believes people should be shamed for allowing their picture to be taken nude.
No, I didn't say they should be shamed. I said you're an idiot if you allow these kinds of pics to be taken of you, and you should never be shocked if they somehow slip out.
If you don't want nude or sex images of your self to possibly ever get out of the private arena you own, don't allow them to be taken.
No matter how much you love someone, you can never know or trust them 100%....you always need to think of yourself as the bottom line, what you say, do or what is put out there about you, especially images or videos.
Most people would consider allowing their partner to make nude photos
I find it hard to believe that MOST people would allow their partners to take nude photos of them at all.
I mean, no matter how much you love someone, you can never, ever trust anyone other than yourself 100%...there is always some doubt between two people. If you don't believe so, you are a fool.
That's why you can't go around taking pictures of strangers and put them on the internet.
I dunno where you live, but it is perfectly legal for me to stand in a public place, take pictures and publish them on the web....have you not seen everyone post their tourist pics on FB or flickr or other websites? You've not see websites of people showing off their street photography?
If it is editorial in nature, you can feel quite free to sell those images too, like to news agencies without any form of release.
But I posit to you, at least in the US, you are perfectly ok to take pictures of folks out on the public streets and put those images on the internet.
If you're stupid enough to let someone film you having sex, or even worse you take and send these compromising images of yourself and send them to folks...you deserve what you get.
For goodness sakes...try to cultivate at least a couple of healthy brain cells, and use them, eh?
How about an old but tried and true method to avoid this.
Don't let someone take FUCKING NAKED pictures of you!!!
Geez, when did people get so fucking boneheaded about this. Cameras have been around for a long time, and even back when you didn't run the risk of images being broadcast to the whole world in an instant, folks generally seemed smart enough to NOT let themselves get photographed in compromising solutions.
Not that anything about good sex is shameful, but c'mon, use a little common sense...if you let someone in this day in age make some homemade pr0n with you featured as the star....especially a chick, you will eventually be broadcast to the world with a dick in your mouth.
Seriously, when did people become brain dead about stuff like this, especially in this day in age?
You can't take them into public if you fear they may call your waiter the N word or go on a tirade about the jews when you are trying to get groceries.
I have had both of these things happen to me on more than one occasion. Each time it was as if the world went in to slow motion and I could not get my mother out of the area fast enough. At one point in a particularly awkward situation I seriously thought someone was going to punch my 73-year-old mother in the face. No matter how many times I try to explain to her that she MUST stop speaking that way, she just doesn't seem to get it, or she just doesn't care.
So, I'm guessing there were a bunch of blacks around you when she started saying the word nigger, and you were afraid of them punching her? Was she not aware of her surroundings at the time?
You bought a nice camera! If you haven't tried "Magic Lantern" yet, you should check it out. It takes it to another level. I Don't have a mkIII, or even mkII, I have a t2i, which can use "Magic Lantern", but if I didn't have family/kids/mortgage etc. I would have that camera! It's a very nice camera and a very nice camcorder in one package.
I'm DYING to get ML on my 5D3..however, it is still in alpha, and with that you must set the bootflag and as far as I can tell, once that is done, you can't remove it.
So, I'm waiting for ML to get the 5D3 version ready more for prime time before I risk putting it on my camera.
I desperately want to get to shoot true 14bit RAW video out of it!!
My HSA is still tax free. 1099s are mostly a tax dodge, taking advantage of desperate people or both. Companies hire 1099s for what's really full time continuous work and call them 'contractors'. The taxes are lower because you're not hiring an employee you're paying for work. The reason you can't get a 1099 is the gov't is cracking down on that. It's only good for you in the short run. In the long run they'll cut your wages and benefits while underfunding the safety net you'll need sooner or later.
Not a dodge...there are PLENTY of folks out there, working contracting, for real. You have to dot your i's and cross your t's to make sure the IRS doesn't reclassify you.
I personally LOVED this method of work. I paid my taxes, but was able to save money, and write off a ton of stuff. Frankly, I find it is about the best way to actually keep a much of your hard earned dollars as you can. Most of my work with as sub to subs for Federal contracts, very lucrative and definitely can be pretty long term (5 year at a time, then, switch to new prime).
It isn't a dodge, it is a way to keep the money you earn, and legitimate if you play by the rules. If you don't, the IRS will bite you hard on the ass.
I don't mind negotiating my bill rate, I know my numbers....I plan enough for 4x weeks a year for vacation/sick time. I put money back into HSA pre-tax, for my routine medical needs. I put money away for retirement.
I don't understand why they seem to try to make this harder for those that ARE responsible enough to guide their own future.
Anyway...I'm actually kinda hoping Obamacare does entice all businesses to allow more 1099 contracting, just have to make sure it is corp-to-corp to help shield somewhat from being reclassified which costs everyone money.
I think I've read that this indeed was a very well done spoof, and that either her or maybe her husband really is a true pro, and this was done to poke fun at the large numbers of folks, that get some sort of DSLR and hang their shingle out (usually just on FB), and are actually charging people for images.
You're him! You're the guy with the L glass on the 5DmkIII that never leaves P mode!
Well, of course not...everyone knows that "P" is for professional, so you set that one your camera to get professional results, eh?
[rolls eyes].
Actually, I experimeted the first 2x days with full auto, and then trying the shutter and apeture priority settings, and since then, I've pretty much had it set to full manual and learning how to work it that way.
It isn't that hard once you practice a little.
This weekend, I'm actually about to set the 5D3 for back button focus and see how that works for me.
WTF is a grocer??
Talk about information ripe for blackmail.
Gotta love those peace loving muslims....
Perhaps because they gave the job to a company whose worker pool isn't generally comprised of US citizens, but instead populated with *ahem* engineers formerly employed by the Quickie Mart?

And no, I don't work in a large urban area.
With your age and experience, you should seriously look into contracting..specifically govt contracting.
With those jobs, experience counts...

Glad I stopped with CS6 Production Suite....I refused to rent software and did not go with Creative Cloud, where you do have to give a CC number.
Don't these idiots know the US Federal Govt is shut down...no one is at home, right...?
If not for that, just freely pubished, or even paid for if in an editorial context, you're perfectly legal to take and publish such images of people in public places.

Hmm...since when did it become illegal to just possess fake ID cards?
Is it really against the law to call yourself whomever you wish, as long as it isn't lying to a federal officer or maybe a state policeman?
Is mere possession of fake ID or just going by an alias now illegal? What laws are on the books about this?
So, I'm guessing there were a bunch of blacks around you when she started saying the word nigger, and you were afraid of them punching her? Was she not aware of her surroundings at the time?

A funny site for what is going on as pro photography can be seen here at You Are Not A Photographer.
Warning...some of these and the comments about them can and will make you spew your coffee on the computer monitor.
