Why would you let unqualified software control a car in public?
Because, you can do it today...you are free to do anything you want with your car's system computers...and many cars are already pretty much drive by wire.
The only difference between now and your question, is the engine (internal combustion vs electric).
If you're an idiot or insane. For normal functional human beings who are not either semi-retarded or sociopaths, he's what you might call a very dangerous, foolish, ignorant man.
Still....ANYONE or any thing would be better than 4 more years of Obama.
I'd vote a small soap dish in over Obama at this point.
Not sure about Discovery networks, but Food/Cooking/HGTV/DIY tend to have full episodes available to stream online these days.
Well, do those stream at HD tv quality? 1080p? (I have a Samsung 59" Plasma, I want a quality signal)
If so, I guess I could look into it...but convenience...would have to rig up a comuter again, and put it in the living room hooked to the TV, and I never did figure out how to get that to work with a remote control, was a PITA to have to go over and mess with the keyboard, etc.
When I moved to the new place..I did a lot of research and out of Cox cable, direct tv, dish tv and Uverse...Uverse won hands down on bang for the buck with most HD channels and DVR service to my rooms.
the hdhomerun prime likely won't work with Uverse, as that it isn't cable and doesn't use cablecard.
Haha, not if you're a poor self-employed person! Go straight to the long form, do not pass go, do not collect a refund! Pardon me while I go cry in the corner.
Well, if you're a smart self-employed person....you have incorporated yourself, (I prefer the "S" corp, allows you to save a LOT on SE taxes), and have kept track of expenditures and mileage and such that you can write off.
Heck, self employment, if done correctly, is about the last bastion left to a US citizen for keeping more of their hard earned dollars to themselves.
Well, sadly...I can't get most of the channels I watch in HD over the air.
I can't get:
FoodTV
Cooking Channel
Discovery Channels (multiple ones)
History Channels
CNN
Fox News
MSNBC
(yes, I like to see varied points of view)
Velocity Channel......etc. I think you can see where I'm going here.
I very seldom watch the big 3 network channels. I pretty much only watch the Big Bang Theory, and that's really it except for my local news. But OTA only offers 5-6 channels tops...and they're not putting out the HD content I watch 99% of the time.
You realise that it's not coincidence that many parts of the US where black crime is a problem also happen to be parts where racism against blacks has historically been at it's worst too right? Those communities you fear are as they are in large part because your white countrymen have spent the last few hundred years beating them into a position where violence is really all they have known. It was ironically white racist violence that created many of these problem communities as the people in question were forced to stick together and use violence to protect themselves from the likes of the KKK, whilst simultaneously being denied equal access to job opportunities to lift themselves out of poverty.
Sorry...but slavery, and the influence of groups like the KKK are ancient history.
Realistically, in the US, "the man" isn't out there keeping blacks down....it is the black community itself that is largely to blame for their plight today.
Most white people don't have the time to bother trying to keep a brother down...they're too busy trying to make their own ends meet. And they don't have advantages minorities have like 'affirmative action' or other quotas.
So, no....that's just not a viable argument anymore.
Is there racism still? Sure...it happens with all racial groups to other racial groups.
But, it is no longer institutional in the US....so, get over it and move on.....that can't be a viable excuse any longer.
I was about to reply with about the same story...and then read your reply.
My last one was at a Guitar Center. I'd paid for my stuff, put my recipt into the bag..and walked out...the person at the entrance was saying "I need to see your receipt"...I said, no you don't and kept walking..they tried following me out saying they needed to inspect..etc.
I stopped briefly for a second and asked if they suspected of theft or anything.....the people (might have been manager with door watcher at this point)..had this puzzled look and said sheepishly..."no...but..."
At that point I turned and walked to my car. I did hear one of them say "you'll not be able to return any of that if we've not marked the receipt".
Geez.
There is only ONE place I let check my receipt, and that's sam's club....because if I recall, that was part of the membership contract I signed with them....but I don't have any agreements with any other stores out there, and I frankly do not like being automatically suspected of shoplifting.
But the fundamental problem remains - it's cheaper and more convenient to order from Amazon and Newegg. I only go to Best Buy when I want to physically examine the purchase first, and that's less than 25% of my electronics and media purchases.
Crap....pasted wrong message to respond to...this is the quote that was supposed to be in the reply above....sheesh.
Despite the last ten years or so of us dumping civil rights into the shitter, the United States is still a pretty free place to live. Asians aren't viewed with the same irrational suspicion as blacks, latinos, or arabs by the police AFAIK.
That and well...I don't have to pay nearly 10% sales tax when I order it from amazon.com or crutchfield, etc...
On a big plasma, or new $4300 Canon camera kit (5D mk3)....that's significant savings.
Will I go to BB or other place locally to look at the product I'm about to drop some cash on..sure...but I'll do that as my final stage of research on said big ticket 'toy'...and then order online where it is shipped conveniently to my front door...and is tax free.
I'd like to shop more local...but I gotta get the best deal I can.
The last thing I bought major from BB...was a big Samsung Plasma...59".
I was a little hesitant on ordering it online, for such a large item, and if it arrive borked.....how would I easily return it (I have a 2 seat sports car, can't carry it myself to have it shipped back).
Well, they deal they had a BB that weekend, rivaled anything I found online, and that amazed me...plus the 12 mo no interest....and with the Reward Zone points I earned...well, it turned out the be the better deal. But that one was a fluke.
No, I didn't buy the extended warranty....I did want one, since I wasn't used to plasmas....and got one online from Square Deal for longer time and better price than BB.
But that's been about it for any purchase, large or small...I'd rather have it shipped free, tax free...and be waiting on my doorstep when I get home. I only shop local stores when I have to have it that day...and that doesn't include much these days.
I actually LOVED MythTV...back when I was watching HD over the air, in combination with getting free analog cable tv from my cable internet connection....there were also some HD (local stuff) on that unfiltered cable feed.
However, I've moved about in recent years, and at the current new place, can't find the filter to remove for that cable internet connection. And now set up with UVerse, I wanted lots of HD content for new big plasma tv.
I wish there was a way to integrate MythTV with Uverse....but until I can find a way to do that, Myth is not something I mess with any longer.
I did prefer it...great for setting recording filters and keywords, etc. Much better than any DVR that comes with cable or uverse or satellite.
Despite the last ten years or so of us dumping civil rights into the shitter, the United States is still a pretty free place to live. Asians aren't viewed with the same irrational suspicion as blacks, latinos, or arabs by the police AFAIK.
Well, another thing in their favor....the Orientals do seem to have better and healthier food to offer us...
I'll have to give a VERY close #2 to the Latinos however.....it is good, but not very high on the health scale.
Or you could man up and go grocery shopping by your fucking self without dragging a car full of people with you? Or send your wife? Or are you one of those couples that are incapable of doing anything alone and require the presence of your spouse at all times for moral support?
I'm single....but I still have no idea how I'd make it from my shopping trip back home with all my groceries on a fucking bicycle?!?!
Let's see...typical Sat or Sun shopping. I got to Sam's club, and stockup on my bags of frozen fruits (3lbs each) for week of breakfast smoothies...I often like to throw those in the ice chest so they don't melt on way home. I get boxes of spinach, maybe a pack of steaks or if smoking that weekend a 14lb brisket....case of V8 Juice....
Then, after that I usually hit one or two grocery stores on the way home, to get what's on sale...and maybe a 12 pack of beer...stock up on kale, bananas, cantelope (hey, watermelons are coming into season too)...
To put it easily. my grocery trip weekly takes me a number of miles from my house, I usually hit 2-3 of them to get what's on sale, and I fill the trunk and passenger seat full with my 2x seater sports car.
How am I supposed to do that with a bike? I'm single....a family of 3 or more...how can they do it?
Geez, be realisitc when it comes to thinking of just basic food shopping in the typical US city, that isn't all compact, and has virtually no public transportation. A bike in most cities, is a recreational vehicle to have fun and get exercise, but it is not a major mode of transport.
Ever change jobs?
That is just a fact of life in the US, especially if you want to progress and earn more money. And it isn't exactly easy to buy and sell a home each time you change jobs, just to be close enough to walk to the job.
Also, often...you may have to work in areas that just aren't safe for a family to live....what's your answer for that.
If you're just a single guy, that doesn't cook and eats out every meal, sure, you can get away with how you describe your life....but that's a small niche of how american families are and must live.
So sell me a car I can like, with decent acceleration, cargo space and range.
I'm of largely the same mind, but slightly different reasons.
I've never owned anything but 2 seat sports cars....I'm interested in something FUN to drive....0-60times....torque, fun 2 seater convertables...roadsters.
They don't make a 'fun' hybrid or electric car that is within reasonable range to buy.
The Tesla has pretty much been the only non fugly green car put out....if they could have put that in the price range of a Vette....well, we might be talking there.
Here's the problem with your argument - if you go to a deprived white neighbourhood in the UK, you will feel equally threatened, and be equally at risk as if you were in a black neighbourhood, the problem is to do with poor areas with high crime. Like you I keep a very weary eye out when I'm in such a white neighbourhood.
Must be different in the UK vs the US, specifically the southern part of the US.
I've been in poorer white sections of town...no problem. But, I'd never set foot within blocks of the black projects around the city. Most murders and crime happen there....and you're an idiot if you go there unless you are wanting to buy crack or something. Hell, people get injured or killed there just from stray bullets, and the young black kids that live there, have NO value for human life, they'll shoot you for looking at them wrong.
It happens.....just an integral part of that community, and you just don't see that type of thing as typically in poor white areas as you do in the black poor areas.
Try wikipedia on npr funding. Seems that "pretty much government funded" is 11.3%. So no.
I think ANY amount of govt., funding...is govt. funding.
In which case...it should be judged that way. Take away make it 100% un-govt. funded, and I'll be cool with them acting more like a private news agency.
In the interest of completeness it should be pointed out that one of the kids instructed his buddies to "take him [the victim] down," at which point the victim told them to "Remember Trayvon." It was after that they the beating started and one of the kids reportedly said "this is for Trayvon." The article at the Daily Mail states that the police don't know if the attack was racially motivated or if they interpreted "Remember Trayvon" as a racist remark. So to suggest that this was some kind of reverse lynch mob is a bit of a stretch, which of course does not prevent the Daily Mail from labeling it a 'twisted racial revenge' attack.
Geez...too bad we don't have the white equivalent of Al Sharpton to get to out on TV and stir up people against this instance of a hate crime....
Heck, why haven't members of the New Black Panthers been arrested yet, for putting a bounty on the head of the man who was involved with the Trayvon killing? Do we allow lynch mobs now, if they lynchers are black?
Williams made remarks to the effect that he feared for his safety when he saw someone who looked (to him) like a Muslim board an airplane, and that anyone who wears "Muslim garb" obviously identifies themselves as a Muslim first and an American second (if they are American at all).
I'd venture to guess, that MANY people that are non-muslims feel that same tinge of fear or apprehension when they see someone get on a plane with "muslim garb".
I know I do....just natural these days, especially when this statement was made by Juan not that long after 9/11. I think it was just a few years after 2011 wasn't it?
But on a larger scale...call it racist or what...but there are stereotypes for reasons. They weren't just made out out of the clear blue sky.
Me? Sure, if I'm walking a street alone (especially in New Orleans) and I see some black teen males walking behind me or coming near me...I keep a very wary eye out on them, and often will cross to the other side of the road and keep an eye out for my options to get to safety in case of a mugging.
Why?
Well, young black teens commit an overwhelming amount of muggings down here. They are often caught on the cameras wearing gang-banger clothes. If I see that, I naturally am apprehensive.
If said young black men, were wearing suits, or dressed in a more normal, non-threatening middle class manner, no...I'd not likely be worried for my safety.
Racist? I dunno....I think it is more like knowing the dangers that can occur around you and being aware of the situation.
Depends on where you live...down here in New Orleans, Air Conditioning is more important than heat.
However, I'd tend to rate water, food and shelter as more important than comfort and internet....
No big deal....
Because, you can do it today...you are free to do anything you want with your car's system computers...and many cars are already pretty much drive by wire.
The only difference between now and your question, is the engine (internal combustion vs electric).
Damn dude....why did you have to broadcast my new business plan like that?!?!?!
You know...with ALL the major problems we have in the US currently...mostly fiscal, the stupid abortion thing is not even on my radar at all.
Still....ANYONE or any thing would be better than 4 more years of Obama.
I'd vote a small soap dish in over Obama at this point.

Yeah..just like everyone else does [rolls eyes].
I just hope they don't close it too very soon....sure has been a good ride!!
...I need to call my CPA and make sure she files and extension for me....
Well, if you're a smart self-employed person....you have incorporated yourself, (I prefer the "S" corp, allows you to save a LOT on SE taxes), and have kept track of expenditures and mileage and such that you can write off.
