I imagine that they wanted to by-pass having to deal with the auto unions in the US (UAW)....that would be a major extra cost in time and overhead.
I've not had a chance to verify this, but I thought I'd heard that Al Gore had a large interest in this company...if that is the case, seems strange a democrat involved in this type thing, especially since the unions are such a big part of the Dem's support base and money contributors.
That's not what racism means. Racism is saying that there are different groups of people, and some of them deserve more privileges because they are better.
Trouble is, that's not the context which most people that scream racism use it in...hence my sarcastic posting.
If you imply that there are any differences in race these days.....someone will shout racism.
Hell, it doesn't take even that much these days...just say your don't like one of Obama's policies and someone will pop up and try to brand you a racist. The term is so overused these days...that it really is losing its meaning...it is now just more of a conversation stopper than anything else.
Furthermore, if we are talking about the 1%: these guys aren't the risk takers, they aren't the job creators, they aren't the innovators. They are like Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan since 1995. He's seen his overall compensation between 9 million and 30 million all the while returning what to shareholders?
And my thought is..."SO WHAT?"
It shouldn't matter or you or I...or anyone else how much this guy makes for doing nothing...except the stockholders of JPM.
If they're idiots to pay a guy for doing nothing, well, then...that's their problem.
Hell, I know I'd jump at the chance to get a 'job' that required me to do very little in return for an astronomical salary. I don't know many people on the face of the earth that would turn down that opportunity.
If it means that much to you...try to buy some stock and organize the rest of the shareholders and either lower his salary or fire him.
Aside from that...who really has a reason to bitch about how much anyone makes?
Strangely, I don't see anyone standing in line to protest the ungodly amounts of money that professional sport persona are making these days in the NFL, NBA, baseball (whatever professional letters they have) or golfers.
Are those guys really worth multi-million dollars a year? What do they produce that is useful? Is playing a fucking GAME really contributing that much to our society and the common working man?
I went the route of getting one of the '05 Mazdaspeed miatas, already with factory turbo, suspension upgrades, anti-sway bars..etc.
I'm looking to drop about $1600 or so, to get rid of the factory air restriction...using the Flyin Miata upgrades...basically the little enchilada...to get to about 200HP true rear wheel horsepower...which will be pretty fun.
I'll likely keep it at that, and use this for my ragtop, and possibly get one of the new 580 HP ZL-1 Camaro that should come out some time next year...to get my 'muscle car' jones taken car of.
I mean, the nerve of these scientists trying to propose that possibly there are genetic differences between the races. We all know that this is not the case, that all races and people, of both sexes (and hermaphrodites) are completely and 100% equal on all bases.
I mean, what the hell? Haven't we progressed beyond this discriminatory scientific findings thing YET?!??!
My convertible is a 1991 Mazda Miata - decent ones go for about $1500 these days.
Add another $1500-$2K to that and put on a turbo or supercharger..and you will REALLY start to feel better. Those little cars souped up can REALLY be screamers. You sure can surprise people in mustangs, or even the lower end vettes with a tweaked miata.
No, hyperbole aside, there's an increasing number of things that one is locked out of if one doesn't choose to do business with FB. Things like contests and sometimes jobs. It's scummy, but there are employers that insist upon having access to view a potential employees FB page, even though it's extremely poor judgment.
Interesting...I've seen none of this. I have never been on FB...and have no problems not being on it.
I think there was an article here on/. about some service...(spotify?) that required a FB account, but that's about all I've ever seen.
Employment based on having a FB account? Hmm..what level jobs are asking for that? I've certainly never had it come up with any tech jobs I've looked at, had or interviewed for....
Can people cite specific examples of job requirements to have a FB account? I don't often enter contests...with some exceptions and those I use throw away email addresses to try to keep the spam level down...but since I don't enter that many, there may be some with FB requirements, but if I ran across those, I'd just figure it wasn't worth my time on that one....
Sell more Windows Server & SQL Server Enterprise/Data Center licenses?
What major data center (working with large volumes of critical data) in its right mind would ever even consider using MS SQL Server as its database? Who'd consider running their critical server for any database on a windows box?!?!
Not in any major production player I've ever seen or worked at....
Yes, of course there will be men who still want a real women, but you cannot escape the fact that demand is dropping.
Yep...and you add in the benefits of NOT risking losing half your possessions every time you want to 'trade up' to a newer model. No listening to her bitch about you and your habits....never on the rag....not having to worry about knocking her up, and being stuck with her when all you wanted was to get laid a few times...etc.
Yep, when they perfect virtual sex, or these robots...real women are gonna be hurting, either that, or they will drastically have to change their ways and acts....otherwise, why would a man put up with all the crap that goes with women?
Every job you take is an opportunity to build your skillsets and improve your career, and I find it unlikely that this job is the best place to do either.
Depends.
If you jump in and learn how to work and even help out in this situation....resume experience, and even adding on some older 'legacy' software that you can learn, is a good bullet point.
And if you're contracting..who cares? You're just being paid a LOT of money to do what the customer wants. If they take your suggestions and improve...GREAT, you've done a good thing and likely earned more work and respece.
If they don't listen...who cares? It is a paycheck. Do what they want as listed in the contract, bill them and make your money...after all, that's the reason you work one way or another right.....money?
Sounds like a smart...and well thought out work environment for coding, etc.
I have to say from my experience....it is rare indeed to see this, especially in LARGE operations, especially ones that are long lived/old.
Easy to start with this on newer developments and with newer companies or govt. contracts...but anything remotely older, larger...that environment is lost, and once lost...pretty much impossible to get it back on track.
But heck...as long as they pay me good money, doesn't matter to me....just a job. Whatever the customer pays me/us for....fine with me.
I've seen it as very much fly by the seat of your pants in govt contracting (both fed and dod)....often by reason of something started (maybe not even finished) by one contractor.....then, everyone lost from that contract when over, and now, it is you. Often, done with old tools, old or non-existant methodologies...but your job?
Fix it, or keep it running at all cost, as that it is a critical system.
No time to waste setting things up...quite often, it is band-aid work....and you aren't getting paid to be pretty. And, the 'client' doesn't want to hear about taking a year to study, and set things up correctly...as that that will cost them more money, and they won't see a ROI for over a year or more.
That's just the public sector. Happens private too.
Honestly, the first ideal work environment the author of the article sound like a utopia I've never encountered....nice, but I have to guess from my anecdotal experience, not the norm.
While I like things cleanly coded, with CVS set up...multiple testing environments...and if given the time and funds to do so would work that way...I've found over many years that that just isn't the case in most situations.
I get paid to make it work or keep it working...and hey, if that's what makes the customer happy, I'm getting paid well for it..so, I do it as they wish, not as I wish they'd wish.....
However pulling someone over because they were texting while driving and then looking at the phone's data to confirm that they were indeed doing so does seem reasonable.
I was wondering about this the other day....I was passing a cop and marking his position with the Trapster app.
I wondered if one pulled me over while doing this...on the pretext of seeing me 'texting while driving', if the lack of a txt message from me at that time...could prove I'm innocent....?
While absolutely important.....I'd have to argue apple and MS have made a bit larger impact on what we now use and interact with on a daily basis as far as common technology. Just IMHO.
Yup. He was there in the beginning of the modern computing age...one of the main three that brought us the computer world we know now...Jobs, Wozniak, Gates.
Think about them what you will, but no denying he's one on the big three that have brought us to the commonly known and use computer tech world that everyone knows today...
Haha I just read your other comment that says the same thing. I'm fairly certain this is illegal, though I wonder how they'd catch you...
I'm actually wondering about the 'illegality" myself. I mean, as I understand it..and I am FAR from being a lawyer, I think most laws stipulate that the plates must be readable at x distance. If it doesn't stipulate electronically readable..I'd guess you could argue that a human cop or other enforcement agent could read it, and that was what the intent of the law was?
I got ticketed at a Fasttrak lane a month ago (I didn't have a Fasttrak pass and by the time I realized my mistake it was too late to merge to another lane). They took a picture of my license plate and used that to track me down. They don't need to have a picture of your face in order to find out who's car it is. Hell they don't even need to have a device in your car at all. Your car CARRIES an ID around with it on the bumper.
I've been wondering about that....
Wondering if I were to install a large number of extremely high intensity IR LEDs around the license plate...if that would blind the camera, but all the while, leave the plate perfectly readable by human eyes?
Who is this?
Google search didn't turn up too much on the name...is he a rapper or something?
Hell, look what the UAW has done to US auto makers...damn near killed them.
And now...they actually pretty much own a couple of them now....
I've not had a chance to verify this, but I thought I'd heard that Al Gore had a large interest in this company...if that is the case, seems strange a democrat involved in this type thing, especially since the unions are such a big part of the Dem's support base and money contributors.
FM V8 solution???
I'd not heard of that one...I need to go check the site again!!!
Trouble is, that's not the context which most people that scream racism use it in...hence my sarcastic posting.

Lots of good serotonin between those 8 wheels.
Maybe it is another case of "growers vs showers"?

There's the old joke: "Why do women have tits?"
"So men will talk to them..."
Depends.

Hmm...is there a law saying it has to be readable to a dash cam?
So, his does that work for someone driving through from out of state?
So, should we all wear black turtlenecks tomorrow in tribute to him? You know, I was thinking a joke, but I just might...

Anybody THAT insecure, doesn't need laws to protect them...they need some serious therapy.
