Frankly, I don't know if I want to be a person who has no problem shooting another, even if (s)he poses a danger to me. The repercussions of that would be disturbing.
What repercussions?
Self defense in your home is completely justified...
If you're talking about conscience....that wouldn't be a problem for me.
But the thing STILL looks like a freakin' family car...sedan.
Yawn
Call me when they get the roadster back out in production again...and at about corvette prices and I'll be interested.
I've never owned a car with greater than 2 functional seats....with the exception of the old Porsche 911 Turbo...'technically' it had two rear seats, but no human can really sit back there.
I have no interest in owning and driving a family car. The sedan/minvan....is for the wife.
For one thing, if you rent here...you pretty much count on never seeing a penny of your deposit back. Even if you clean, do everything well...or even if your landlord sell the place out from under you, it is gone.
That's the first thing. Tenants really have virtually no rights....the one exception is that of eviction. It basically takes a landlord 3-6 months to get your fully out of the place once proceedings start. So, you have time to look for a new place. But other than that...tenants have no real rights down here..
Can one really know if they're prepared until it happens? It's not like you can train shooting at people
Well, I suppose like any activity in life...you don't actually know till you've faced it.
But like with most anything else, before you do it in life, you picture yourself doing it, and mentally prepare yourself for doing it.
That being said, I dunno why other people seem to have some apprehension as to why they don't think they'd unload on someone to protect themselves, their family or property. The thought of doing just that doesn't make me flinch in the least...I dunno why other people do or think they would.
I mean, when it comes down to it. "I" and my life are the only things in the world that I really own....and everything else in this life and world are secondary to that. My life is the most precious thing to me in the world...I will not get another one, so, I will do everything and anything it takes when it comes down to it, to protect and lengthen it.
I can't imagine why anyone would think less of themselves.
I'm now doing amateur porn-- difficult to resist when it earns an unskilled laborer a grownup sized income for part time hours-- but my image is everywhere online.
What? No links???
If you've got a pr0n website for $$...I'd have to think a link on Slashdot would bring a fortune in a day....if it could handle the slashdotting....
Yes, now besides getting raped, she can be shot too!
Well, that's the thing.
You do not carry a gun...unless you are prepared to use it when needed without flinching.
I, for one...have no compunction about unloading a magazine into someone that is threatening to do me bodily harm...ESPECIALLY if it is in my own home.
If you're not willing to pull that trigger, then no...don't carry a gun, it will likely end up being used on you (assuming of course they don't have one already).
Interesting...I make my green chile with white navy beans usually....
I actually just bought a fantastic pressure cooker recently...did a batch of the green pork chile.....sure was good and really cut down on the cooking time!
Interesting....I've never had sweet chili before...
I do agree with the beer...
I didn't see any chile's in your chili tho...?
I like to do at least a couple of fresh chiles in mine...serranos for heat, and often poblanos for a good color.
One thing I like to do, often in lieu of using store bought chili powder....is I get a bunch of dried chiles (ancho, arbol, etc...)....I heat up a pan of water to near boiling, and tear apart the chiles roughly, (ditch the seeds) and put into the water to soak...maybe add a touch of vinegar too.
Once the chiles are pliable and soft....put in a blender or food processer and puree.
Then, mash this paste through a sieve or something of the sort..to filter out the skin bits, etc.
Then, you use this as the base of your chili.....add your seasonings as you like...more cumin that with chili powder....etc.
But interesting...I've never had the thought of adding sugar to my chili....interesting.
What part of the country do you live? I know what Frank's is, but you don't see it used often down here...we do mostly cayenne pepper sauces down south here where I am...
Why not make prints of your pictures and put them in photo albums too?
I've got TONS of pictures back from when I and family show 35mm film and had them developed.
I have old B&W prints of when my parents were kids, and they all are in good shape. I have the negatives with many of those too.
So, if your digital images are quality, why not pick out the keepers and have prints made. Make 2x copies each, keep one set and send the other set to your parents?
Damn....The Aussies misspelled it. I was thinking they'd won a chile contest....not bread the hottest pepper.
The pepper itself is spelled chile.....if you're making the dish with ground chiles, beef and sometimes beans....originated I think in Texas, that would be spelled chili.
I often wonder if it isn't the anti-tea party people who are the real racists.
Hell, I've heard them try to spin it, that if you liked Herman Cain, you were some kind of racist....that you were a conservative and only put him up there to 'appear' that you didn't hate someone due to their color.
You know, the promoters of Obama said early on, he's be a uniter...especially with respect to race. I'm seeing more and more that his reign has been the exact opposite. If you merely disagree with the man or his programs/proposals, they supporters seem to move with lightening speed to automatically play the race card.
From what I can tell...they mostly want to get back to following the US Constitution more closely.
Basically that means...smaller Federal Govt. More power to the states....
I don't think it views the rich or the poor as that they aren't really addressed in the US constitution. The govt is supposed to be there basically, to allow you the freedom and tools to make a success for yourself.
It isn't formed to give you a way of life, to care for you, etc. If more than that is wanted, then, there is a mechanism to do that...amend the constitution.
Ok, I added a bit of myself in there...I'm not a huge fan of "social progress" if that means wealth re-distribution.
But really, I don't see the Tea Party folks, when I've listened to them, stand for anything you've mentioned.
I've heard other people on tv try to tell what they want...whacko's like Keith Oblerman...who seem to spew stuff like that, but even as entertaining as he is, I didn't think people out there really took him seriously??
...since they apparently got a law that said you can't bill an uninsured patient less than an insured patient.
Hmm....are you sure about this being a law?
I remember back in the day, my uncle was a Dr. private practice...he often charged people as they had means. As did another Dr. I worked with about 15 years ago.
I know recently, when I was 1099 contracting...I had a high deductible insurance set up, so I could have a HSA to sock medical monies back into.
I often went to the Dr. and told them I'd be paying for myself, and most places, would automatically knock 15% off the bill, right there when I wrote them a check for the office visit or procedure (had an MRI one time).
Like most anything in this world, you as an individual are responsible to plan, save and pay for basic healthcare needs. We really should go back to where insurance was what was termed 'major medical'...it was insurance ONLY to be used in major, catastrophic emergencies (heart attack, get hit by a car, etc).
Freedom does require personal responsibility to plan and well...act like a responsible adult.
Freedom does also mean the freedom to fail...or be stupid, and deal with the consequences.
In general, people are compassionate for those in need....and voluntarily give to charities, etc. This all works best on a local level (state/city) where the power, according to the US constitution, is supposed to reside.
The federal govt is not mandated by the constitution to be the nanny state, and protect people from themselves....but the interstate commerce clause has been bastardized so badly that the Feds have WAY overstepped their supposedly limited, enumerated powers.
I hope, hope, hope, hope that this law gets struck down.....maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I'd hope it might lead to review of the many other ways the Feds have overstepped their powers and maybe we can roll back a LOT of crap out there.
Linux (some business do run linux even if it's in a very limited way)
In a limited way?
Most big businesses (including federal, dod, va, etc) have MANY Linux servers running everything in the server rooms. Maybe not as many on the desktops, but certainly Linux has a huge presence in the server room. Most places I work with and have worked with in the past, since Sun's demise...all have mostly Linux running....with some other *nixes...like HPUX, AIX...etc.
I honestly never thought I'd have a use for any tablet...till my friend came by and showed me his rooted nook.
I still wasn't convinced, but thought it would be a fun project to root one, and the price was right...
Well, I started looking online and you could find used nook colors for about $150 if you shopped around. I actually happened to have credits built up at BB and a gift card from ATT...used those and got a new in the box nook color for like $138...so, really couldn't beat the price here, hell I've drank more than that at a bar in on night...
Anyway....I've grown very addicted and attached to the nook color as a tablet. I find I'm carrying around the house at all times, I may get a 2nd or 3rd just to keep in different rooms of the house. I'm constantly using it to email....or quickly look something up when I think about it or see something on tv that's interesting.
I like that I can put both nook and kindle access on it...best of all worlds. I like you can have the freedom to try out a ton of free stuff at the android store and can easily sideload apps and books/media/documents on it.
I like on the nook color..that you can use microSD cards for media and the like. This thing is great for traveling....
I'm now hooked on the tablet thing, it does have a place....just needs to be at the right price.
Oh...and I find I'm reading a WHOLE lot more for pleasure these days...that's a nice side benefit.
What repercussions?

Yep....in New Orleans...really bad.

the importance of NOT being seen

I had some chili from a family that was in the northern most part of Kentucky. Their chili?
Man, if there was anything in it besides, ground beef, beans, water and salt and pepper, I missed it.
No heat...no flavor...ugh.
I find that most foods tend to get flavorless quickly as soon as you leave the south and head up north.
I don't mean bland just in 'not hot'...but no seasoning whatsoever....
Why not make prints of your pictures and put them in photo albums too?
I've got TONS of pictures back from when I and family show 35mm film and had them developed.

Nope..I live in New Orleans.
I think the mantra at that point is....
"C'mon ice cream......!!!"
You thought bbq'ed chips were hot?!?!?
Whew...whatta wimp....
The pepper itself is spelled chile.....if you're making the dish with ground chiles, beef and sometimes beans....originated I think in Texas, that would be spelled chili.
Actually...I've done just that..asking what office visits...procedures cost...and shopped around.
And the MRI with %15 off....was about right.
I used to work for a radiologist in another state years back...I know about what things cost....
Why are you singling out the GOP's for your disapproval?
Sounds like this will be abused by both sides of the aisle??
Hell, I've heard them try to spin it, that if you liked Herman Cain, you were some kind of racist....that you were a conservative and only put him up there to 'appear' that you didn't hate someone due to their color.

Do you actually, truly believe that???
From what I can tell...they mostly want to get back to following the US Constitution more closely.

BINGO!!
I think is it more a human responsibility....
Like most anything in this world, you as an individual are responsible to plan, save and pay for basic healthcare needs.
