Well, for one thing...I've gotten to the age where I rarely if ever get carded anymore. But, if they put in this swiping to get in thing...EVERY time I go to a bar, it will be noted.
Also, what about those that don't have a drivers license. And, if you're not driving (and so many people on here bitch about drinking and driving) why should you be forced to carry a drivers license. I mean, it isn't like you're required to carry ID on you everywhere you go.
But the basic big deal is yes....if you do the required swipe thing...you go into a database. And I think we all know the creative things we can do and information we can gleen by doing some data mining from lots of sources of information gathered on a person. One piece of info may not be a big deal, but, put a bunch of them together, and it can mean something. I figure the less you have to put in, the better. If I'm not breaking a law...no one needs to know anything about me.

I'm not so sure about the tech on RealID, but, if they use the same stuff they are using on Passports, and I'd guess that would be a realistic thought...then you can be scanned at distance. This guy made a rig where he could go wardriving and gather RFID found on passports.

Let's cut benefits on (possibly coming) your national healthcare. Since you drink, and are exposed to smoke (well, you still can at most bars I go to)...you are a health risk and we the govt. won't pay as much for you. Or even with private insurance, I'm sure they'll get ahold of this sooner or later.
Amd..once the populace accepts swiping for bar entry...well, I'm sure they won't mind swiping for entry into drug stores, that would help gather your meds usage. How about grocery store for purchases, that way we can track your unhealthy eating habits.

Does Charter offer a 'business' account? If so, get those....if they're like Cox, they aren't that much more than a consumer connection, no caps, no blocked ports, you can run servers all you wish, etc.
And do you have a cell phone? If so...why bother with any type of landline? Just use the cell as your regular phone, save the landline fees. And with a business cable internet connection....enjoy all the internet you wish. Heck..maybe even make a little money OFF having it with a server or two hosting stuff for people.
And...with these connections...they can't really usually put a trap on the line..so, you can also get analog tv signals off them, and with something like a HDHomerun, you can scan the for the un-encrypted digital/hd stations. I mean, if you run this into a mythtv box...you are merely hooking another computer into your computer cable connection, nothing wrong with that, eh?

You misunderstand what I said.
Basically, where I grew up...to get the seatbelt laws passed, to make them less onerous at the time, they said yes, you can be cited and fined for not wearing a seatbelt, BUT, you could not be pulled over for simply being observed not wearing one. That is, if you got pulled over for something else, like running a stop sign, and they saw you didn't have a seatbelt on, they could cite you for it then.
Somewhere along the line....once they got that law on the books, they changed it to where you CAN be pulled over for not wearing a belt. Adding yet one more little niggling thing they can look for as an excuse to pull you over.

From what I understood...if you opted out, say for like religious reasons. You didn't have to pay SS taxes nor could you collect them.

Hell, as old as I am...if they would let me QUIT today, I'd sign away all potential benefits I can coming to me...
Even with the market down, I'd trust my money going into some kind of investment rather than SS.

Trouble is...it appears Korea (assuming South Korea) doesn't seem to have the inherit need to put extreme amounts of pork and other wasteful spending on their broadband legislation. Unlike the big, bundled travesty of the current US 'stimulus' package.
Break that damned bill into separate bills, directly target at the US economy. I'd back the part with rolling out broadband....it would help our infrastructure, as well as help create new jobs.
I can't, however, go along with some broadband funding bundled with some kind of 60's beatnik museam in SF and other crap we don't really NEED at this time.
