As granted by whom? I'm seriously you asking this question. I often hear people go on about human rights, but nobody seems to know who or what has granted them. I, personally, have no clue.
Basically the thought is, you are BORN with them, the rights are inherit to being a human being, and you have them the day you hit the atmosphere and start processing oxygen.
Other thing is....I'm NOT terribly inclined to add any more streaming services to my list of things I pay for monthly.
I have Netflix.
I have Amazon Prime (not just for video, but lots of stuff for the $).
When I cut the cord, I got Playstation VUE...that covers my "cable" channels, news, sports (I only really like watching college football on ESPNs)....
I also have tivo and antenna for local HD OTA content...no monthly fees there, but just with that and the 3 streaming services I mentioned, it would have to be something VERY compelling for me to add yet another streaming service.
I have more content than I need at this time....WTF would I add Disney? (or any other service out there).
But if you truly believe that diversity initiatives are futile because Nature, the honest scientific approach is to let the experiment run and fail.
I believe that Nature abhors a vacuum, and will move naturally to fill any void.
If Diversity is the end point of nature, then I would post we just let it happen and no need to artificially help it along with laws or special programs.
That is...if you are also arguing that diversity is natural?
Here is the question. Does the NBA have rules that would prevent Men under 5'5" from playing?
If this person was fast, and could jump and hold his own professionally then he could be in the team.
You can't use statistics to make decisions about an individual.
Nope, and I don't think the person that wrote the Google manifesto was promoting rules against hiring women, only that explaining why you might observer with regard to numbers of women in the work pool, their positions and possibly not only an explanation of why you see it, but also why possibly diversity programs may not be the best processes for the company to pursue at the detriment to other classes of people who might be being overlooked in the name of diversity.
He was making some observational generalities of women, many seeming to have merit...but didn't seem to be advocating that it was the case for ALL women and that the individual shouldn't still be looked at for merit.
"Women, on average, have more openness directed towards feelings and aesthetics rather than ideas. Women generally also have a stronger interest in people rather than things, relative to men."
"We always ask why we don't see women in top leadership positions, but we never ask why we see so many men in these jobs. These positions often require long, stressful hours that may not be worth it if you want a balanced and fulfilling life."
Hmm....I'm not sure what I see here that is so offensive....

Hmm...not sure that I see anything offensive here...what's your point?
"If you didn't make good decisions when you were at an age where your brain is not developed, and everyone makes shit decisions all the time, then you're fucked" is just not an acceptable statement. Especially this applies when most of the people making those bad decisions are living in a home where their parents just don't give a shit, and never point out to them that school actually matters (or anything else for that matter).
It doesn't mean you are necessarily fucked, but you DO have a lot of road to catch up on.
If you don't get it early, then you will need to work twice as hard AND sacrifice....to make up for lost time, but you still can.
You may need to defer getting married and especially NOT have kids...till you can afford to educate and get yourself in a position to have a real job that does earn > $7/hr and can support a family and lifestyle that you prefer.
A lot of people are amazed that we just left our families behind and moved,
What's the deal with this??
Is this something new where kids are afraid to move away from their parents/relatives when the become adults?
I live in a different state than ANY of my relatives....I moved away when I went to college, boomeranged back a couple of short times, and then finally out totally away from everyone.
I go back to visit from time to time, but really....is there something that has happened the last generation where kids are too afraid of something to go out on their own and move and live in different places?
You mean the one in a million (almost literally) that have the opportunity to test well enough to go somewhere? How many 'average' Chinese and Indian kids will never travel to the US to get an advanced degree because they didn't place in the top 0.1%?
I believe the OP was referring to poor Chinese and Indian kids that are already IN the US...
His point being, you don't seen other minorities, that may be poor having the same problems the black kids are having.
A lot of people who were born "on the wrong side of the tracks" end up doing really well both because they overcame the bad influences of their peers AND because they were raised by someone who valued hard work and education and encouraged the child to do well in school. It's almost entirely parenting.
People growing up in the ghetto don't get that. It could be a long discussion when you get to a lot of the finer points, but people are a product of both their nature and their nurture (how much influence the latter has depends on the former - some people are more easily influenced).
The thing is...this is something you just cannot legislate your way out off....
This will take major change within the communities themselves.
How is being born on the wrong side of the tracks, or the wrong color, or to parents without proper connections, 'reaping what you sow'?
There is no doubt that each of us gets a different starting block in life.
But that is life, it always has been.
If you start further back, it just means you have to try harder, and it is possible, you CAN see examples of this in life.
I've personally known people that started off with WAY less than I had, but they worked past poverty and neighborhood culture and became VERY successful.
Much more successful than myself.
I've also seen kids who have had natural smarts, and come from wealthy families, that ended up nowhere, poor and basically.....your $7/hr worker.
Yes, everyone gets a different starting block in life, be it wealth, family, physical and mental levels.....but it is up to the person to struggle and strive to make it through life.
I just can't do it. It's unfathomable. I don't blame the engineers, why wouldn't you do it if you could? But the corporate culture in America must be brought down. It's evil and must be stopped at all costs.
If you didn't value school growing up, and you are an adult and not able to give more than $7/hr value to an employer, well.......you reap what you sow.
most of the main supermarket chains will deliver shopping ordered online for a small charge.
I don't trust someone at a grocery store to pick out the best looking produce, nor the best looking marbled cuts of meat, etc.
I do not buy much prepackaged food at all....and someone at the store isn't going to buy the best they find, rather, they will pick the stuff that needs to be rotated out of stock the fastest.
I need to shop in person to ensure I get the best possible foods for my money.
Which is because of the way US cities are designed, which was my point (they are, by and large, a disaster of urban design). However, they can be re-designed, slowly.
Well, that would do it, however....being that we're low on $$$ available for the infrastructure as it is, I don't see anything major like this and the disruption it would wreck upon peoples' lives....I don't see this happening even a little in my lifetime or the next...
You usually don't buy humongous packages of things like you do in North America. You buy smaller packages more often. This is anyways more practical, since people live in smaller houses and apartments than in N. America.
Well, I dunno....my favorite place to shop is Costco. I like to buy in bulk and get the savings from it...it actually cuts down on multiple trips to the store.
Hmm....well, with the more women on the design teams, you can say good by to the large breasted, beautiful looking characters.
Goodness, how did we EVER do it in the past decades before the advent of the cell phone and even the pager.....
[rolls eyes]
I guess absolutely NOTHING ever got done, nor coordinated between people and groups....nothing.
Basically the thought is, you are BORN with them, the rights are inherit to being a human being, and you have them the day you hit the atmosphere and start processing oxygen.

That or I would have thought we'd have infiltrated, sabotaged or blown up some important places covertly making it look like an accident by now.
I guess our intelligence agencies are too busy spying inland on the citizens these days?
I believe that Nature abhors a vacuum, and will move naturally to fill any void.

Well, color you Captain Tolerant, of the USS Inclusive.
Yep, this appears to be catering (once again) to the lowest common denominator.

This category of men also tends not to be very pervasive in the NBA either. I mean, talk about serious lack of diversity, eh?
Hmm....I'm not sure what I see here that is so offensive....

Make that settlement figure in the decent 7 figure range, and I just might start writing memos myself!!
Haha...

Well, you did CHOOSE to have a wife, get married and have kids.
If you had decided to forgo 1 or both of those, you'd have a LOT more freedom, and disposable income.
I believe the OP was referring to poor Chinese and Indian kids that are already IN the US...

Sorry, the world does not owe you anything.
How do I apply for these jobs?!?!?!
If you're out of school and have a real job, $100 IS pretty cheap...hell, I've had bar tabs larger than that before....
I have my iPod shuffle every time I go to the gym.
It clips onto my shirt tail...and is light, and easy.
I don't want something large and bulky I'm lugging around while working out.
I have my beer gut for that...and I'm trying to get rid of that too!!
I'm not married to Apple music players, I've just enjoyed them for years....what are the other small, lightweight easy to use mp3 players out there?
I don't trust someone at a grocery store to pick out the best looking produce, nor the best looking marbled cuts of meat, etc.

I"m busy and don't have time to shop daily.
