  1. What a fucking troll on Mexico to Abolish the Public Domain? · · Score: 0

Just because some fool writes up an email saying that congress will vote on something does not mean that it is a reality.
If it were really official it would be posted on the senate's official webpage: http://www.senado.gob.mx
Or in congress' official webpage: http://www.diputados.gob.mx/

I guess this is typical slashdot bullshit where the editors don't even bother to check the facts.

I guess the criteria for posting a story is: Does it make a good flamebait? Does it bash M$?
    The list goes on.

1,000,000 what? Italian Lire? Sure that's like 545USD... Would a check be ok?

...'stealing' from those bastards is not a crime.

And what makes you think that only corporations hold copyrights and intellectual property?

As an independent artist I can tell you that copyrights are the only thing that can protect us from people taking advantage of our work. Sure I barely make any money from my work so I'm not about to quit my day-job. I don't mind giving away my work for free but I sure as hell don't want anybody profiting from something *I* did.

The only thing I agree about is that organizations like RIAA only look after the well-being of corporations and not artists! It irks me everytime I hear one of those bozos say that they are looking after us.

  4. Some other puzzle games worth mentioning. on Snood, the Simple Game · · Score: 2, Interesting

For those of you that are into puzzle games like myself there are plenty of other games worth mentioning. Here's my little list:

Columns -- Sega's answer to Tetris. Fun and addictive.

Magical Drop -- Sorta like Puzzle Bobble but upside-down. Highly addictive.

Money Idol Exchanger -- A Magical Drop-like game but there's math involved. Many may be put off by the cutsey graphics but it's a great game.

Puyo Puyo -- Released in the states as Puyo Pop or Puzzlow Kids. Tetris-like.

Chu Chu Rocket! -- Extremely fun in multiplayer mode.

I know for a fact that most of these have open source clones available, it's just a matter of looking for them.

Why was Warf whinging like a little girl at his hange over? Why wasnt he busy being pissed at Riker for taking his woman? Why would he be pissed at Riker? Don't you remember he married Jadzia Dax? You'de think he would be over Troy by now...

What I want to know is what the hell he was doing on Enterprise. He had everything going for him on DS9.

  6. Re:*Sigh* on Turn-Key Linux Audio · · Score: 1
My bad. I should have been more specific.

The problem I have is that the wavetable synth on my soundcard is not supported. I've tried ALSA with no luck. I'm currently using the commercial OSS driver but even that one doesn't support it.

I can't load my instrument samples into RAM and do MIDI playback with them. So I have to reboot into windows everytime I want to record music using MIDI instruments. I could use MIDI out + a hardware synth but I don't have $500+ to burn...

I currently have a dual-boot system with WinME and Turbolinux 7. The music notation software I've used for years works fine under WINE but I'm trying to kick the habit and use the wonderfull MusE Score but until my soundcard is fully supported I'm going to have to reboot in order to do playback and recording wich I don't mind doing but windows keeps crashing in the middle of recording... but that's different story.

  7. *Sigh* on Turn-Key Linux Audio · · Score: 3, Interesting

If only they would add decent wavetable synth support to Linux I would ditch Windows without thinking about it twice.

  8. My reason on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

Well the reason I still use Windows is because Linux is lightyears behind when it comes to audio editing and music notation. Sure, while there are some nice little programs, they're very limited compared to Windows ones.
Soundcard support is pretty lacking too. Sure, lots of cards are supported but they don't support *all* the features of the card. Even the commercial OSS driver lacks features(soundfonts anyone?). I've been asking OSS support about this since 1997 and I always get the same answer: "It's being worked on". Sorry but I just can't wait.
I've also tried ALSA but I've never gotten that to work either.
