  1. Interpolation was added for movies specifically on Motion Impossible: Tom Cruise Declares War on TV Frame Interpolation (theguardian.com) · · Score: 1

It's laughable that they would suggest interpolation was originally added to TVs for sports! Complete bullshit. Sports always used, and still does, the higher framerate of interlacing to get the needed smoothness.

I long, long ago transitioned to the smoothness for movies. I'll keep my interpolation for as long the source framerate stays low, thank you very much!

The interpolation may not be perfect, but it's far better than none at all. I get annoyed at You Tube rubbish these days because my desktop player/browser doesn't have interpolation.

It's not either of those. Consumers never wanted it, reviewers never wanted it. It will impact not just the price tag but ergonomics, style, and weight. Not to mention flattening the battery faster too.

It has always been the domain of larger/heavier products. Suing over this is just another round of asshole mentality again. There's no shortage of that these days.

And I bet those particular models are bigger ones.

The better quality the filter is, the larger surface area it needs to have. Even a coarse mesh needs an increased surface compared to a plain opening.

The intake can't be placed on the bottom. That leaves the thin edges, as currently done, or on top around the keyboard.

    Or back-off on the heating/clock-speed.

  4. Only because the others don't want it that way. And there in lies the problem. There is no interest from the competing platforms to collaborate. Similar story for music downloads going right back to the 1990's.

It's probably the biggest reason why so-called "free-to-play" games got so big for a while. Without the bother of sorting out pre-game purchasing the game can get started immediately and do the rest in-game.

Or is it like the Vice item, where they reported on a something, browser history sniffing, that would only occur for those that don't care about how much they lose.

  9. While I agree that Apple giving AMD a spin would be welcome, I can also see the reasons why there hasn't been any movement:

      - Apple working with ATI is positively ancient. AMD buying ATI didn't affect that. So that explains the continued use of the AMD Radeon line of GPUs.

      - The transition from IBM Power to Intel Core CPUs was done in classic Steve Jobs flamboyance. And with that Apple got preferential Intel treatment that had been the domain of Dell. (Whole other story there me thinks.) Apple won't be in any rush to jeopardise this position.

      - You'll note also the deal between Intel and AMD for GPU integration. I would expect this deal is at the behest of Apple.
