  1. hmmm...very interesting device... on Random Movement Printing Technology · · Score: 2, Interesting

My best guess on how it works is very much like an optical mouse except that it can record rotation as well (every spin your optical mouse? if you do it just right, the pointer doesnt move). My guess also, is that you can't lift your hand once your start printing and that whatever orientation the printer is originally at is how the orientation of the image will be. It's really not a complicated technology in my view (not to say it wasn't difficult to implement, just that the idea is simple). I wonder if there have been attempts before to build something such as this. I also wonder if there will be any chance of a WIFI version. I never caught onto BlueTooth (though, if the price is right, I may with this).

  3. Re:I, too on Speed of Gravity Experiment Challenged · · Score: 5, Informative

That is not what they are trying to prove. The speed of gravity they are referring to is the speed of propigation of a change in gravity. If I am a giant mass which you are being influenced by gravitationally, and I move to a different location, does the force you feel change instantaneously? Or does it change after some set amount of time? Is that amount of time dependent on the distance you are from me? If so, then there is a speed of gravity that is not infinite. These scientists think that is is c, others do not. THAT is the controversy.

Would this new device be more susceptible to an EMP device? I realize that when the HERF gun story went up, a great number of people were joking (or at least i hope they were) about shooting and cops tailing them so they won't get pulled over, but in the case of a serious crime caught on "tape" would this all digital device be more susceptible to a device like that?

Could this lead to optical computers? I mean if we can create light from single molecules that must happen with a decent amount of efficiency. Could this lead to using light instead of electricity for computing? I'm not sure if it would be better, but it would certainly be interesting. Kiriwas

BOY do I disagree. As a junior in college, currently working on breaking myself of years of Windoze habits, I can tell you that starting on a computer at around 8 was a blessing from my parents. We barely even started with ANY OS when I started, it was a C64 with BASIC on it. I typed in the programs (all text based) myself before we finally bought some old C64 software from a friend. I really wish I had started earlier. I had a normal childhood, friends, sports, books, the arts, just happened to love playing on my computer more than TV. I can't see this as a bad thing. I wish my parents had been as knowledable about computers as these kid's parents are. Not to say that Sebastopol doesnt know about raising children I don't know him/her, and I certainly don't have one yet. But it was just over a decade ago that I was one, I doubt Sebastpol can say that. -AntonK
