The primary purpose of Beagle 2 was to find evidence of life on Mars. And it was shot down by a bunch of country-side martian inbreds carryin' big ol' shotguns; so I think the mission was, uhh... successful. We just need to prove that this, in fact, happened.
Well, programming *is* a hard task, and simplifying it is about building layers and layers of better abstractions to machine code and binary data.
Without XML, what would you normally do? Create a flat text file and read it using whatever syntax you'll like that day. I agree XML is ugly as hell to type in manually, but at least it's a standard, and every programming language in use today can handle it in a standard way - DOM, SAX, whatever.
Unfortunately, a debugger that can catch bugs in requirements or specification definitions cannot be built.
Though there are tools (like those that come in TogetherSoft's ControlCenter) that can take metrics on your diagrams or code and figure out some bad styling or design pattern non-conformance, but still that's not debugging.
Is a stuffed frog I've got from my gf that sits on top of my monitor. When I need to ask something about a hard bug, I ask him first, and just by asking most of the time the problem gets solved.
It's interesting to note that a lot of those day-to-day bugs can be solved by simply straightening out your train of thought by posing a question in a manner that someone who doesn't know the system can understand.
I can't see anything that VB's debugger has that Eclipse doesn't, and Eclipse's got one of the best Java debuggers I've ever used, despite some bugs with recursive data structures that I hope that get fixed soon (create a List and add itself to it, go to the variables and press '*' to unfold the whole tree, and *boom*).
REDMOND - Microsoft just filed suit against dictionary.com for the use of the words 'word', the plural of 'window' and 'notepad', which are obviously infringing MSFT's applications.
Even in this interview, she like... she like talks like, like, like, like like... every single like word is like... intermixed like, with like...and stuff...like...and it's like...a bummer.
I surely hope this project gives developers a great tool to fight spam, and I wish best of luck to them!
But there's still that deep feeling in me that says that I will miss my ~100 spams a day. I was so used to see messages like "MAKE MONEY FAST!" that I think a really (or nearly) perfect spam filter will make my inbox so empty...:'(
Multi-headless chicken.
Hmm, now I see why Slashdot's main color is green ;)

Terra is their major ISP, AFAIK. Sad they look so much for it, anyways.. the service, for the most part, is as crappy as AOL.
Read Guy Steele's 'Growing a Language'. Definitely has a lot of thought-provoking, refreshing ideas.
Recently I blogged about my ancient 8086 laptop.
Here's the full text, along with some pics.
It still works, and after having written that I even boot it from time to time, just to play some Lemmings. Oh, the memories...
Hey, you *can* rollback. Get the new version and read the docs/code. It's one of the new features in 2.x.

Gives a new meaning to "watermark", don't you think?
It's half a million dollars, take it or leave it.
Think I'll announce the lil' green guy on eBay...

How long before we see some Kylix versions around?

How long before spammers file for DMCA?
