Christianity brought us the barbaric monarchies, the Dark Ages, and so forth.
Actually, Christianity was co-opted by evil men to do these things. (Unless you want to admit that atheism brought us communism, the hollocaust, and the mass murder of intellectuals in China.)
I have a old Zenith data systems z-note. 25 Mhz 486, 8 meg ram, 500 meg hard disk, built-in ethernet. The thing is so old it doesn't even have PCMCIA slots. It has had an old version of slackware, but runs windows 95 now.
I agree with you totally. I was just trying to point out that forgiveness for anyone involved with SCO's evil doings would have to come after admiting the doings were evil in the first place...
The author claims that Joy is such a visionary that Sun's entire R&D strategy will have to change. Then in the next line he says that Joy is such a luddite that he'll never get involved with another tech company. Which is it? Visionary or luddite?
Just for example it has Microsoft years to finally produce a usable virtual desktop manager and even then it is not a part of the standard Windows XP installation. It is hidden on an obscure webpage deep inside the Microsoft website under the label "Power toys". I have introduced quite a number of "average Windows users" to the MSVDM and none of them took more than 60 seconds to grasp the concept of Multiple desktops.
Actually, the resource kit for windows nt version 3.1 (1.0 in microsoft numbers) had this feature. That was what, 1994?
I'll have to look into that. my main complaint with java is that it is so high level, and programmer-centric. There's so much stuff in there that only helps the programmer. I would gladly pay the price in time and study to make something more user friendly
Traditionally, that has been the programmer's job.
There's a huge flaw in your analogy, because there's only one real use for cocaine: getting high. (Well, okay, two uses, because you can also sell cocaine to someone else, but that's beside the point.)
Actually, cocaine is still used as a painkiller by some dentists.
Let's take all the cellphones, PDAs, and webservers that run java... that's less than the number of windows xp boxes Dell sold in the last half a year. Now who's looking at a small market?
Two points here:
(1) The overall size of the market is different from the actual opportunity in the market. So, yes, there are a bazillion windows desktops. On the other hand, everybody else, including Microsoft, is writing software for them already.
(2) The possible future size of the market is important too. pda's, cellphones, and webservers usage is growing. The pc market is starting to drop off.

Works pretty good for something so pathetic.
Who cares how your partner did it as long as it works?
Because if your partner (or you) happen to be short-sighted, the code may not work well, or might be hard to extend in the future.
but it is not required that each partner should know every detail of the whole project though.
Yes, but it sure makes it easier for each partner to move on to other things, as the knowledge is never only held by one person.
Entity beans are primarily designed for resume-building, not application building.
You certainly could do it if they were web/nfs/ftp or Oracle database servers.
And an 'F' for thinking that the outlet would be wired with the voltage or current a electric car charging system might need.
I agree with you totally.

My sentiment (which is actually what "morality" is, according to Hume)
More proof that Hume was a fuckwit.
I seem to recall that forgiveness and redemption was in there somewhere too.
Great! Then maybe you'll recall the part of repentance too!
Oops! There goes security!
All your printers are belong to us!

He's a visionary luddite.
I think the sheer physical size of OSU would make it pretty impossible. Case Western isn't half the size of OSU...

Unfortunatley, I'm a programmer, not an EE.
Bah! What's the difference? You have a soldering iron, right?
For a minute I thought that said "Slashdot wet T-Shirt contest".

That settles it. I'm officially old.
30 sucks, doesn't it?

Directed energy weapons! what does that mean? High powered lasers? Something else that's super-secret?
Sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads.
Right before the 2000 elections, the Fed was taking drastic measures to destroy the economic boom.
Somehow, I think a boom powered by companies trying to FedEx dog food probably didn't need help from Greenspan to go bust.
If I propose you remove operator overloading, can I get my kidney back?
Actually, you get an extra colon, but you should be able to cast it to any organ you like.

So in other words, its dead.
No, it just wishes it was dead.
How about flexing that muscle to get a little better price, eh?
You know you're talking about the $749 for a hammer people, right?
You can now work your entire IT career using tools that you did not pay for.
What other industry can say that?
Politics?
Prostitution?
Whoops... same thing.
