And yet, with some hacking, the iPod touch turns into the coolest micro-top (laptop, haha i coined a term) on the PLANET. bar none. We rabid fanboys.. well, sometime I think they want it to get hacked and provided for that 'off the record' and 'off the clock' so they could have happy investors AND happy users at the same time.
Whatever their motivation, a hacked ipod touch is the best piece of consumer computing technology i've ever seen - for 300 freakin' dollars! Compare THAT to your 3,995 IBM XT or whatever in 1986;-p
End of the story, apple hardware and software is still better then any other proprietary company. Probably because they listen to their psychologists more then their engineers i'd wager -- because an engineer *really* doesn't let his own eccentric work flow affect how he designs things for aunt matilda (or for just plain common sense).
Whitespace Scoping and Block Scoping are two end of a dichotomy. Before you go wishin' it wasn't this way, well, i'm not going to belabor it but some of us like to actually be able to scan code without having to inspect every darn character to figure out where things start and end. It actually takes brain cycles to do that that could be spent on comprehension instead of syntactical flukery. It's a psychology thing not unlike the HID guideline (hid? in code? you betcha!)
If you doubt still, perhaps this will sate you instead: it is a five line perl script (i misplaced it) to convert whitespace indenting to block indenting. They ARE identical and can be translated between freely. Whitespace indented perl? You Betcha!! "Curly" python? Sure! If it bothers you, go write that script and get outta da way:)
why the huge emphasis on the iPhone in your statment? Personally, the jailbroken iPod touch is a FanTastic unix-in-your-pocket book reading music playing web-serving powerhouse that is smaller and sexier to hold and use. Really, my POV, I'll be keeping my current phone and using the awesome touch as what it is, the slickest pocket computer ever made.
wait until they can scan your thoughts. Then you'll be telling us how easy it just "not to think of it"
I mean, gee, what fool would think of something illegal while undergoing "a simple search"? (like, say, showing positive emotion toward the wrong political party)/asswipe
No no, i agree with your points. What I am very concerned about, however, is that certain people will be turned away from a VERY effective treatment because of blanket paranoia. In case you missed my first post above, i've tried Chantix, and it did everything it said to with minimal side effects, and nothing scary at all. It was, simply, a miracle. People that can take a statement like i just made and not be a little excited are, at the least, odd to me.
In this case they have found something that (for me anyway) absoultely positively with no consequence or effect worked perfectly! So put that in your paranoia pipe and smoke it:)
No, i am a complete Non Smoker (which makes me feel kinda high - on life - sometimes, yeah!) And there is one reason why.
People who have a problem with Chantix can stop taking it. Just like people who get bad hangovers can stop drinking alcohol. There is NO REASON TO SCARE PEOPLE AWAY from such a potentially life changing and positive experience.
Don't forget the obvious. There are people that will *gasp* purposefully lie to you on the internets. I'm suggesting that you and others NOT FORGET that such a motive is plausible and possible.
I'm offering a first person experience. Of interest, the only side effect I got was my lifetime's only wet dream. And as side effects go, i liked it.
What I am saying is, don't be afraid of trying it because of a smear campaign. Go read about it - most of all, try it if you're a smoker that can't quit because OBVIOUSLY taking chantix is NOT AS BAD AS SMOKING ITSELF. talk about side effects! geez.
Yeah, um, dude? That's exactly what a well-timed phillip morris internet campaign WOULD put out there for you to read. Honestly, i've seen so many postive reports that i am 100% sure that phillip morris and crew are 1) aware of it and b) scared shitless by it.
Please don't turn your back on such a miracle effect. And i don't use that word often. And don't think companies wouldnt pay people to post scare mongering topics on this either. They would.
There's no need for this. Not when a whole *class* of new drugs are coming out around nicotine anyway.
Chantix got me off of ten years of smoking in two months, experientially, not just for while i was on it, but apparently *reversed* the entire psychological and physical process from those years.
Every other time i tried to quit i'd have to avoid bars and lounges so i didn't come in contact with ANY smoke at all. After chantix therapy, I don't have to avoid anything, *i just don't want to smoke*.
I'll leave it to you (i'm already aware) of exactly why chantix has such a powerful effect. Given, i would never never never.....never never never take a "vaccine" that has a life long effect for anything other then a pathogen or bent protein. For a basic neurotransmitter mimic? youve GOT to be kidding me, scares the shit out of me. End of story
sleeping just quiets other causative factors. People keep phones next to their head for Very Long Times. The fact it happens while your sleeping tends to point to a similar effect while awake, natch?
it's that old inverse square law nipping at your heels - yes the transmitter is about a watt give or take a watt - but you hold the thing *next to your head* so that the exposure is typical- for the region being irradiated. The region is again, your head, so i'd say you haven't sleuthed this one out quite yet./just pointin' it out
CSS is one end of a dichotomy and the other is constraint-based programming. I think the latter could use some airing out in the tag-world that has been missing so far.
really, if you want to make a good XML based application language that's easier to Do Stuff In , i don't see why you'd beat the tired old html horse. move on.
This whitespace business being bad for webpages is just bull, and it really bothers me to see it here. If you want to compress something, just compress it! If you want to include a large program, put it in it's own file!
but most of all, tell me difference here:
class FOO:
def __init__(self):
pass
def myfunc(self):
print "hi there"
and
class FOO{
def __init__(self){
pass;
}
def myfunc(self){
print "hi there";
} }
the point is that the USE OF WHITESPACE OR BRACES IS 100% INTERCHANGEABLE, BY AN AUTOMATED TRANSLATOR. A simple 20 line one at that.
i have barely any clue who Radiohead were and no-do-i-care
i mean, it IS music. just like 293320 cool-ass-bands out there. That do their own thing. That don't give a shite if you buy it or not because
REAL MUSICIANS DO FOR THE MUSIC. and do what needs to be done for their lives. I'm not comfortable with a year 2000 "artist caste" when the "nurse" and "teacher" castes are treated PISS POOR.
So no, i didn't contribute to this experiment, either.
There is a quandary here (in your reference to getting a book) that i've been confused about for a long time. Since every game console out there is essentially a mathematics imaging system, and given that they are pretty common and rugged, how come there isn't a sweeping line up of interactive educational math titles that let you play with the problems in realtime parameter tweaking, or in context, or visually, or what-have-you..
Seems like every math class in america should have a playstation 2 with "Calculus: The Beginning" stuck in it. Cheaper then the calculators and computers per student and the student can play it at home if they want. What's not to like?
In the larger case though, i would just like to have such a thing as an entertainment option to, like the submitter said, keep a sharp edge on the skills.
you know what the #1 battery drain on a PDA like the iPhone is? The screen. That AND the fact that you don't want spurious input in your pocket PLUS the fact this is how ALL windows smartphones work too leaves your argument rather flat.
I'm not kidding. If you are not aware that turning off the screen save major power you are certainly as in need of help as the subject of this article is. Apple is good at what they do, but they can't drool for you as well. Screen light = power and Screen light = accidental input in your pocket. Case closed./But try the veal!
my goodness what's with all of the strangely low amounts of intelligence here today? All of these posts seem to be implying that if a phone is not held against ones ear then it shouldnt recieve calls. OF COURSE sleep mode isnt off, otherwise THE PHONE WOULD NOT ANSWER CALLS!
Admittidly in this case it is easy to see the people were just ignorant of the phone's basic operation and, perhaps, international data should be opt-in. but to say this is due to bad UI design from apple is INSANE. If the iPhone sat in your pocket in sleep mode and DIDNT have a function to auto get emails, that would be bad design.
I just checked; auto fetching of email is OFF OFF OFF by default. These people are just the unlucky people who will remind the rest of you "non savvies" to think for a second. AND, if they used voice only for a week, you think they didnt see new email messages magically show up on their home screen of the unit? Yeah, RIGHT.
I'm sorry to feel it nescessary to say so, but wiccans aren't any better then scientologists or Christian or Hindus..... You all represent fantasy and escape - Now With More Ignorance Fear and Paranoia of Science!
You dont need fake answers to questions, you guys gotta learn to ask better questions. Questions like "why are we told we need diaphanous, tenous, infallible father/mother figures paraded in front of us to make us love shit that aint each other?"
and that way i can tell dear old mom the next shadow run game is "job research"

yay for the grasp (you'd have to lstrip it, to be precise) pass it on! /cool

There is no parallel to this miracle even as mysterious as transubstantiation itself! It is He that keep the pasta flowing! He that make it slide!
*bells ringing in the streets* we have proof! *bells ringing in the streets*
