    However, when an entity or person is being punished by society for infringement of others rights, or other breaches of the social contract we call a code of laws, they loose quite a few rights.

    Did 4chan do something to deserve blocking by any ISP that cares to do so?
    Hell yeah.

    Should ISPs protecting themselves from 4chan's user-base's criminal actions be limited by preserving the loser's "right" to spew idiocy and filth across the net?
    Hell no.

    Which is all horrible and everything until you realise that when it's "First they came for 4chan" then every decent and/or sentient person is part of "they".

    After all, when was the last time someone quoted that "first they came for the murderers"?

    Surely this does not come as a surprise to anyone?

    Oracle, who have deliberately lessened the abilities of their own products (from a reasonably solid database system 10 years ago to a steaming turd now) in order to sell more licenses to do the same amount of work will continue to cut anything that is not immediately profitable.

    Anything that Sun pursued on moral or ethical grounds, and anything that shows "future promise" will be axed as soon as they spot it.

    As well as anything that could potentially compete with their more expensive in-house crap.

    People have been worrying about MySQL. They have been right to worry. However, as a corporation, Oracle can and will have all relevant American laws re-written/re-interpreted as necessary to see all commercial deployment of MySQL in the USA dead within two years.

    All still working fine.

    Java was supposed to make ripple water effects and other animated gif replacements in cruddy web-pages. Its popularity since has been a triumph of bizarre word of mouth marketing and low-entry-bar for amateur coders over efficiency and rational design processes.

    Do keep in mind that marketing is in general an honorless and greedy profession. The odds are that the people you will have to work with will be quite happy to destroy you if they see an opportunity to take your product for themselves.

    They will wait until after you have paid them to market it first, but act before the marketing has actually begun, of course.

    Nothing gets me back in the swing of productivity quite so effectively and reliably as taking a heavy duty set of scissors to the cable between the router and the outside Internet.

    In extreme cases of malaise, I switch languages.

    The "Could of"/"should of"/"to of" idiocy is a uniquely American thing. It's pretty darn certain the poster is an American Whiteboy, who has been ignoring his English Language studies (or had a teacher who is equally guilty).

    "Dumb" = "Unable to speak". Seems particularly apt, though illiterate would be even more so.

    Might I suggest that when a story submitter is too dumb to comprehend the difference between "to of" and "to have" that they have proven themselves incapable of meaningful participation anywhere outside Facebook and Myspace?

    It's not even a difficult piece of grammar. "To of" is quite simply never correct in any situation.

    Because this is one of the few instances where Microsoft has done something both intelligent and ethical.
    And they even had the decency to make this information so clear on the download site that it was the first thing I read about 7 RC beyond an article telling me it was available for download.

Either you fail and they sue you, or you succeed and find they were the backers behind behind the law firm the assured you that the VC's contract was fair and legit, get turfed out on your ear and sued if you ever open your mouth about it or attempt to make a career in any related field again..
